Lyrics

Lyrics are words that make up a song usually consisting of verses and choruses. The writer of lyrics is a lyricist. The words to an extended musical composition such as an opera are, however, usually known as a "libretto" and their writer, as a "librettist". The meaning of lyrics can either be explicit or implicit. Some lyrics are abstract, almost unintelligible, and, in such cases, their explication emphasizes form, articulation, meter, and symmetry of expression.

Etymology

"Lyric" derives via Latin lyricus from the Greek λυρικός (lyrikós), the adjectival form of lyre. It first appeared in English in the mid-16th century in reference, to the Earl of Surrey's translations of Petrarch and to his own sonnets.Greek lyric poetry had been defined by the manner in which it was sung accompanied by the lyre or cithara, as opposed to the chanted formal epics or the more passionate elegies accompanied by the flute. The personal nature of many of the verses of the Nine Lyric Poets led to the present sense of "lyric poetry" but the original Greek sense—words set to music—eventually led to its use as "lyrics", first attested in Stainer and Barrett's 1876 Dictionary of Musical Terms. Stainer and Barrett used the word as a singular substantive: "Lyric, poetry or blank verse intended to be set to music and sung". By the 1930s, the present use of the plurale tantum "lyrics" had begun; it has been standard since the 1950s. The singular form "lyric" still appears; its present use, however, is to refer to a specific phrase within a song's lyrics.

Chandelier

A chandelier /ˌʃæn.dəlˈɪər/ is a decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture. Chandeliers are often ornate, and normally use lamps. Crystal chandeliers have more or less complex arrays of crystal prisms to illuminate a room with refracted light. Chandeliers are often located in hallways, living room and recently in bathrooms.

Etymology

The word chandelier was first known in the English language in the 1736, borrowed from the Old French word chandelier, which comes from the Latin candelabrum.

History

The earliest candle chandeliers were used by the wealthy in medieval times, this type of chandelier could be moved to different rooms. From the 15th century, more complex forms of chandeliers, based on ring or crown designs, became popular decorative features in palaces and homes of nobility, clergy and merchants. Its high cost made the chandelier a symbol of luxury and status.

By the early 18th century, ornate cast ormolu forms with long, curved arms and many candles were in the homes of many in the growing merchant class. Neoclassical motifs became an increasingly common element, mostly in cast metals but also in carved and gilded wood. Chandeliers made in this style also drew heavily on the aesthetic of ancient Greece and Rome, incorporating clean lines, classical proportions and mythological creatures. Developments in glassmaking later allowed cheaper production of lead crystal, the light scattering properties of which quickly made it a popular addition to the form, leading to the crystal chandelier.

Krisia Todorova

Krisia Marinova Todorova (Bulgarian: Крисия Маринова Тодорова, born 1 June 2004) is a Bulgarian child singer. Along with Ignatov Brothers, she represented Bulgaria at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with her song "Planet of the Children". They finished in second place.

Early and personal life

Born in Varna on 1 June 2004, Todorova now lives in the town of Varosh in Razgrad – and has become a very famous young Bulgarian singer. Her father is Marin Todorov and her mother is Angelina Todorova. She has two sisters, Tiffany Todorova (born 2001) and Marina Todorova (2009). She started studying music when she was six years old in different music schools in Bulgaria, and is currently studying music at the "Centre for work with Children" in Razgrad with vocal teacher Svilena Decheva, where she sings and plays the piano. She studies at Vasil Levski Primary School in 7200 Razgrad.

In her spare time, Todorova loves drawing and dancing – especially classical ballet. Her favourite subject at school is Mathematics and Man And Society, but her dream is to become a singer or an actress. Her favourite singers are Lili Ivanova, Lara Fabian, Mariana Popova, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce.
