Eye

Eyes are the organs of vision. They detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons. In higher organisms, the eye is a complex optical system which collects light from the surrounding environment, regulates its intensity through a diaphragm, focuses it through an adjustable assembly of lenses to form an image, converts this image into a set of electrical signals, and transmits these signals to the brain through complex neural pathways that connect the eye via the optic nerve to the visual cortex and other areas of the brain. Eyes with resolving power have come in ten fundamentally different forms, and 96% of animal species possess a complex optical system. Image-resolving eyes are present in molluscs, chordates and arthropods.

The simplest "eyes", such as those in microorganisms, do nothing but detect whether the surroundings are light or dark, which is sufficient for the entrainment of circadian rhythms. From more complex eyes, retinal photosensitive ganglion cells send signals along the retinohypothalamic tract to the suprachiasmatic nuclei to effect circadian adjustment and to the pretectal area to control the pupillary light reflex.

Super Deluxe was a comedy video website provided by TBS Networks. It was launched on January 17, 2007, folded into AdultSwim.com on May 7, 2008, and taken offline on December 17, 2008. On October 6, 2015 it was reported that Super Deluxe was being relaunched.

In November 2006, the domain was registered for Super Deluxe and started out as a bubble popping game with random pictures when you pop the bubbles.

Description

Super Deluxe featured exclusive programming developed for the service by established and rising amateur comedians. This included short comedic sketches, episodic series, and short films.

Artists could share concepts and performances in a forum or in a personalized area. Fans could communicate with them and express their sense of humor through community tools, such as videos, profiles, and messages.

On May 7, 2008, Turner announced that Super Deluxe would be folding into its sister website, AdultSwim.com. As a result, the majority of the Super Deluxe staff were laid off. Super Deluxe site was officially taken offline on December 17, 2008. A selection of edited videos from Aaron McGruder, Brad Neely, Y'all So Stupid, Tim & Eric, Poundcast, and Bob Odenkirk are available on AdultSwim.com, but they are censored.Uncensored clips can be seen on Youtube.com. The rest of the Super Deluxe library was eliminated.

Cotton-Eyed Joe

"Cotton-Eyed Joe" (also known as "Cotton-Eye Joe") is a traditional American country folk song popular at various times throughout the United States and Canada, although today it is most commonly associated with the American South. In the Roud index of folksongs it is No. 942.

"Cotton-Eyed Joe" has inspired both a partner dance and more than one line dance that is often danced at country dance venues in the U.S. and around the world. The 1980 film Urban Cowboy sparked a renewed interest in the dance. In 1985, The Moody Brothers' version of the song received a Grammy Award-nomination for "Best Country Instrumental Performance". Irish group The Chieftains received a Grammy nomination for "Best Country Vocal Collaboration" for their version of the song with lead vocals by Ricky Skaggs on their 1992 album, Another Country. In 1994, a version of the song recorded by the Swedish band Rednex as "Cotton Eye Joe" became popular worldwide.

History

The origins of this song are unclear, although it pre-dates the 1861–1865 American Civil War.American folklorist Dorothy Scarborough (1878–1935) noted in her 1925 book On the Trail of Negro Folk-songs, that several people remember hearing the song before the war and her sister, Mrs. George Scarborough, learned the song from a man who had known the song during his earliest childhood from slaves singing it on plantations in Louisiana. Both the dance and the song had as many variants as the old old folk song that it is. American publishing house Harper and Brothers published a version in 1882, heard by author Louise Clarke Pyrnelle (born 1850) on the Alabama plantation of her father when she was a child, that was later republished in 1910:
