Kevin Bacon played the role of FBI agent Ryan Hardy in the American thriller drama TV series “The Following” on Fox, which was unceremoniously canceled by the network after its Season 3 finale in May of last year.
The unfortunate part for the loyal viewers of the TV series is that “The Following” left a major cliffhanger, which can no longer be answered now that it was already canceled for Season 4.
While there have been subsequent moves to ask Fox to reconsider its decision, including a couple of signature campaigns online but those hardly generated the support that the network needed to draw its attention and make it change its decision, cites the Vine Report.
Kevin Bacon has been lauded for his performance in the TV series so much so that shortly after “The Following” was canceled after its Season 3 finale in May of last year, he immediately got an acting assignment on a mob film entitled “Black Mass.”
Interestingly, he played the role of an FBI agent hunting down mobster White Bulger, which indicated that the producers got him for the project because of his similar role in “The Following.”
Another FBI agent role
Incidentally, to reinforce how well he plays as an FBI agent, Kevin Bacon was once again taken in to star in the Boston Marathon bombing movie “Patriots Day,” which was confirmed by producers CBS Films and Lionsgate Films last March.
The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, J.K. Simmons, and Bacon. It is to be directed by Peter Berg from a script by Matt Charman, reports Variety.
“Patriots Day” is scheduled to hit global theaters on December 21, 2016, and follows the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, which includes the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind the grisly massacre.
Kevin Bacon shall play the role of FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard DesLauriers who worked tirelessly as one of the key figures in the very sophisticated and complicated investigation.
Director Peter Berg said that Kevin Bacon possesses the intelligence and empathy to portray DesLauriers in “Patriots Day.”
No hurt feelings
Despite “The Following” being canceled for Season 4, Kevin Bacon appeared to have no regrets or hurt feelings against the network.
As a matter of fact, after the announcement of the show’s cancellation following its series finale on May 18, 2015, Kevin Bacon took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the loyal viewers of the TV series.
He imparted his big love to all of the loyal fans of “The Following,” and said that he felt it really an honor to work for them. He also cited that the sweat, tears, and lots of blood were worth it in delivering the final episodes of Season 3 of the TV series.
Although its water under the bridge now, but the reason why the “The Following” actually ended that way during its final episode of Season 3 is because it has more interesting stories to tell.
The revelation came from executive producer Alexi Hawley who said that the Season 3 finale was crafted as a prelude to a possible Season 4. But with Season 4 no longer happening, the Season 3 finale left “The Following” viewers with major unanswered questions.
Hawley further disclosed that the show’s writing team was fascinated by the possibility of a serial killer that was not coming from the poor or middle class of society.
He said that if the show was going to have an evil force out there, it has to be something bigger than Theo, played by Michael Ealy, or something bigger than Strauss, played by Gregg Henry, or more dominating than Joe Caroll, played by James Purefoy.
