William Goldenberg, ACE, has more than twenty film and television credits since 1992. He won the Academy Award for Film Editing for the film Argo, and has been nominated for "The Insider," "Seabiscuit," "Zero Dark Thirty," and "The Imitation Game." He has also received nominations for nine other editing-related awards. Goldenberg has had an extended, notable collaboration with the director Michael Mann including "Heat," "The Insider," "Ali," and "Miami Vice." Some of his other work includes "Unbroken," "Alive," "Pleasantville," "National Treasure," and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "Transformers: Age of Extinction," and "Gone Baby Gone."
About the moderator: Bobbie O’Steen is a New York-based writer and film historian, dedicated to sharing the editor’s invisible art with students, professionals, and the movie-going public. She is an Emmy-nominated film editor and the author of two acclaimed books about editing entitled "Cut to the Chase" and "The Invisible Cut." O’Steen is currently partnered with Manhattan Edit Workshop for her series “Inside the Cutting Room," and she also moderates panels for American Cinema Editors’ EditFest. "Heat" is a 1995 American crime thriller film written, produced and directed by Michael Mann, and starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Val Kilmer. The film was released in the United States on December 15, 1995. De Niro plays Neil McCauley, a professional thief, while Pacino plays Lt. Vincent Hanna, a veteran L.A.P.D. robbery-homicide detective tracking down McCauley's crew. The central conflict is based on the experiences of former Chicago police officer Chuck Adamson and his pursuit in the 1960s of a criminal named McCauley, after whom De Niro's character is named.

Starting as a location manager on Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show, by 1981 Marshall was working as a producer on Raiders of the Lost Ark with Steven Spielberg and future wife Kathleen Kennedy. Shortly thereafter, the trio formed Amblin Entertainment, and together produced movies such as Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Empire of the Sun. Marshall earned five Academy Award nominations for best picture, including for Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Color Purple, The Sixth Sense, Seabiscuit and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Cinema of the United States
The cinema of the United States, often generally referred to as Hollywood, has had a profound effect on cinema across the world since the early 20th century. The dominant style of American cinema is Classical Hollywood Cinema, which developed from 1917 to 1960 and characterizes most films to this day. While the French Lumière Brothers are generally credited with the birth of modern cinema, it is American cinema that soon became the most dominant force in an emerging industry. Since the 1920s, the American film industry has grossed more money every year than that of any other country in the world.
In 1878, Eadweard Muybridge demonstrated the power of photography to capture motion. In 1894, the world's first commercial motion picture exhibition was given in New York City, using Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope. The United States was in the forefront of sound film development in the following decades. Since the early 20th century, the U.S. film industry has largely been based in and around Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Picture City, Florida was also a planned site for a movie picture production center in the 1920s, but due to the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane, the idea collapsed and Picture City returned to its original name of Hobe Sound. Director D. W. Griffith was central to the development of film grammar. Orson Welles's Citizen Kane (1941) is frequently cited in critics' polls as the greatest film of all time.

David Cross
David Cross (born April 4, 1964) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and voice artist, known primarily for his standup work, the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show, and his role as Tobias Fünke in the sitcom Arrested Development. Cross created, wrote, executive produced, and starred in The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, developed and had a prominent role in Freak Show, appeared on Modern Family, portrayed Ian Hawke in the Alvin and the Chipmunks film franchise, and voiced Crane in the Kung Fu Panda film franchise.
Early life
Cross was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 4, 1964, the son of Barry and Susi, the former of whom emigrated from Leeds, England. Six months after his birth, Cross' family moved to Florida. After additional moves to New York and Connecticut, the family settled back in Roswell, Georgia, where Cross remained for nearly a decade. His family was poor and Barry left the family when Cross was 10 years old; the two have not spoken since he was 19, though they both primarily resided in New York City until Cross sold his home there in 2011. Cross and his family were evicted from their home while living in Georgia. He spent some time living in motels and at friends' homes while growing up. He has two sisters and once bailed his youngest sibling out of jail.

Tom Haneke Discusses a Scene from the Film "My Generation."
Tom Haneke's work includes Barbara Kopple's Academy Award-winning documentary "American Dream" and "My Generation" (which he also co-directed). Tom edited From "Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China," and "He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin'", which both received Academy Awards for best documentary. Haneke has also done several projects for HBO as well as Sundance Film Festival nominee "American Teen."
"My Generation" is a 2000 film by documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple that looks at the links between young people who attended the original 1969 Woodstock music festival and those who attended the 1994 and 1999 Woodstock festivities. Despite the wide generational and cultural gaps between the original attendees and the newer ones, the film finds that there are more commonalities than there are differences. The movie also captured both the notorious mud-slinging performance of the band Green Day at 1994's festival and the chaotic fires at 1999's concert. She was awarded BAFTA’s highest honor, The Academy Fellowship, as well as the Career Achievement Award from American Cinema Editors - and last year Coates was only the second editor besides Dede Allen to receive a career achievement award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
About the moderator: Bobbie O’Steen is a New York-based writer and film historian, dedicated to sharing the editor’s invisible art with students, professionals, and the movie-going public. She is an Emmy-nominated film editor and the author of two acclaimed books about editing entitled "Cut to the Chase" and "The Invisible Cut." "Becket" is a 1964 Anglo-American dramatic film adaptation of the play "Becket or the Honour of God" by Jean Anouilh made by Hal Wallis Productions and released by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Peter Glenville and produced by Hal B. Wallis with Joseph H. Hazen as executive producer. The screenplay was written by Edward Anhalt based on Anouilh's play. The music score was by Laurence Rosenthal, the cinematography by Geoffrey Unsworth and the editing by Anne V. Coates.

"Network" is a 1976 American satirical film written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Sidney Lumet, about a fictional television network, UBS, and its struggle with poor ratings. The film stars Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch, and Robert Duvall and features Wesley Addy, Ned Beatty, and Beatrice Straight.
The film won four Academy Awards, in the categories of Best Actor (Finch), Best Actress (Dunaway), Best Supporting Actress (Straight), and Best Original Screenplay (Chayefsky).
In 2000, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In 2002, it was inducted into the Producers Guild of America Hall of Fame as a film that has "set an enduring standard for U.S. American entertainment". In 2006, Chayefsky's script was voted one of the top-ten screenplays by the Writers Guild of America, East. In 2007, the film was 64th among the 100 greatest American films as chosen by the American Film Institute, a ranking slightly higher than the one AFI had given it ten years earlier.

Veteran film editor Richard Marks visits LACPUG for the entire evening. Marks has been nominated for many awards including four times for the Academy Award (Apocalypse Now,(with Walter Murch, Gerald B. Greenburg and Lisa Fruchtman) Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News, As Good as It Gets), four times for ACE Eddie Awards, (Apocalypse Now, Broadcast News, As Good as It Gets, Julie & Julia) three times for the BAFTA Award, (The Godfather: Part II, Apocalypse Now, Dick Tracy). Marks has been elected to membership in the American Cinema Editors, and in 2013 he received their Career Achievement Award. This was a very rare opporutnity to get up close and personal with one of cinemas greatest editors. Hosted by Michael Horton.

Indian authorities are investigating a massive security breach involving secret data relating to the combat capabilities of submarines being built for the Indian navy by a French shipbuilder that could delay shipment of the vehicles, VOA News reported Thursday.The release of more than 22,000 pages of sensitive information relating to Scorpene submarines were made public earlier this week by The Australian newspaper, the report said....
