Becki Newton

Rebecca Sara "Becki" Newton (born July 4, 1978) is an American actress, known for her roles as Amanda Tanen on Ugly Betty and Quinn Garvey on How I Met Your Mother.

Biography

Early life and education

Newton was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She is of English and Czech descent. Her maternal grandfather was composer and arranger Bruce Chase. She began performing musicals and plays at local theaters, and studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with a B.A. in European History.

After graduation, Newton then moved to New York City and landed several roles in television commercials for such companies as the Olive Garden.

Career

Newton portrayed the character Amanda Tanen in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010. With co-star Michael Urie, Newton co-hosted the official Ugly Betty podcast. She also starred in ABC.com's web series Mode After Hours opposite Urie. Her performance attracted extremely positive reviews from critics and Amanda was arguably one of, if not the most popular character on the show, mainly due to her comical personality. Ugly Betty was canceled in 2010 after four seasons, allowing the show to receive a proper series finale.

Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty is an American comedy-drama television series developed by Silvio Horta, which premiered on ABC on September 28, 2006, and ended on April 14, 2010. It revolves around the character Betty Suarez who, despite her lack of style, lands a job at a prestigious fashion magazine. The series is based on Fernando Gaitán's Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, which has had many other international adaptations. It was produced by Silent H, Ventanarosa, and Reveille Productions partnered with ABC Studios and executive produced by Salma Hayek, Silvio Horta, Ben Silverman, Jose Tamez, and Joel Fields. The pilot was filmed in New York; seasons one and two were filmed in Los Angeles and seasons three and four in New York City.

During its first three seasons, it aired on Thursday nights, where it was mostly successful. However, viewership dropped significantly in the show's third season, particularly in the important 18–49 age group. In October 2009, the series was moved to Fridays, where it had trouble finding an audience. The backlash from its fans prompted ABC to move the show to Wednesdays at 10:00 pm Eastern/9:00 pm Central starting January 6, 2010, where it was thought that it would better complement its Wednesday hits Modern Family and Cougar Town, but on January 27, 2010, ABC announced it was canceling the series due to low ratings. Since the show's cancellation, it has gained a cult following. With the end of the series, there was talk of a push by Ana Ortiz and America Ferrera for an Ugly Betty movie.

Weird Loners

Weird Loners is an American comedy television series created by Michael J. Weithorn. The 6-episode first season was ordered straight-to-series by the Fox network in 2014. The series is executive produced by Weithorn and Jake Kasdan. The series premiered on March 31, 2015.

On May 11, 2015, Fox canceled Weird Loners after just one season.

Four people who fear personal relationships are unexpectedly thrust into one another's lives and form an unlikely bond while living in a townhouse in Queens, New York.
