Why is Marijuana still 'a drug with no medicinal purpose?'
National legalization of marijuana may be drawing a smidgeon closer.
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), one of the federal government sponsored agencies, has just updated the FAQs on its website to include recent studies on marijuana showing that it can and has killed cancer cells.
These are the findings of studies NCI have included:
Cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.
Cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.
A laboratory study of delta -9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) cells showed it damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in models of liver cancer showed that it had anti-tumor effects.
Delta-9-THC has been shown to cause these effects by acting on molecules that may also be found in non-small cell lung cancer cells and breast cancer cells.
A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in estrogen receptor positive and estrogen receptor negative breast cancer cells showed that it caused cancer cell death while having little effect on normal breast cells. Studies of metastatic breast cancer showed that cannabinoids may lessen the growth, number, and spread of tumors.

National Cancer Institute
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is one of eleven agencies that are part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The NCI coordinates the U.S. National Cancer Program and conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other activities related to the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer; the supportive care of cancer patients and their families; and cancer survivorship. On April 1, 2015, Douglas Lowy, M.D. was named the Acting Director of NCI.
The National Cancer Institute mediates the majority of its mission via an extramural program that provides grants for cancer research. Additionally, the National Cancer Institute has intramural research programs, which constitutes a small fraction of the overall National Cancer Institute budget, in Bethesda, Maryland and at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research at Fort Detrick, in Frederick, Maryland.

The client wanted to make a film to raise funds by showing it to finance companies and government authorities for approvals. Scripted and directed the complete film including execution areas like creation of graphics, editing & VFX. Divided the video into 3 phases first explained the cancer disease and its impact to the society. Only four percent of cancer research institutions in the United States have received the prestigious designation. Comprehensive Cancer Center status recognizes robust clinical, basic and population science research; team science; scientific leadership; education programs; and research focused on benefitting the community. According to the National Cancer Institute, there are about 56,000 new cases of thyroid cancer in the US each year, and the majority of those diagnoses are papillary thyroid cancer—the most common type of thyroid cancer. Females are more likely to have thyroid cancer at a ratio of 3:1. Thyroid cancer can occur in any age group, although it is most common after age 30, and its aggressiveness increases significantly in older patients. Thyroid cancer does not always cause symptoms; often, the first sign of thyroid cancer is a thyroid nodule.
This article will highlight some common thyroid cancer signs and symptoms as well as thyroid cancer prognosis and treatments.
Thyroid Cancer Symptoms
Some thyroid cancer signs and symptoms include a hoarse voice, neck pain, and enlarged lymph nodes. Although as much as 75% of the Cold nodule in thyroidpopulation will have thyroid nodules, the vast majority are benign. Young people usually don't have thyroid nodules, but as people age, they're more likely to develop a nodule. By the time we are 80, 90% of us will have at least one nodule.
Fewer than 1% of all thyroid nodules are malignant (cancerous). A nodule that is cold on scan (shown in photo above and outlined in red and yellow) is more likely to be malignant. However, the majority of these are benign as well.
