Traveling to Guizhou Province for the 2012 China Travel Photography Arts Festival, we spent our first night in Guiyang, the capitol. While there was no group sightseeing here, I did manage to get some photos near our hotel and along the river front at night of Hongfu Temple and nearby buildings. The following description is from wikipedia.org:
Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province of Southwest China. It is located in the centre of the province, situated on the east of the Yunnan--Guizhou Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River. The city has an elevation of about 1,100 meters. It has an area of 8,034 square kilometers. Guiyang is populated by 23 different minorities, the most populous of which is the Miao people, in addition to the ethnic Han. As of 2010, the total population of Guiyang municipality was 4.2 million, among which 3.0 million were urban residents.
Guiyang has grown exponentially since the 1990s. The city is situated on the Nanming River, a headstream of the Wu River, which eventually joins the Yangtze River at Fuling in Sichuan province. Guiyang is a natural transportation center, with comparatively easy access northward to Sichuan, eastward to Guangxi and Guangdong, westward to Yunnan, and northeast to Hunan province.
Guiyang is the economic and commercial hub of Guizhou Province and a center for retail and wholesale commercial activities with operations of major domestic and international general retailers and consumer electronics and appliance sellers. Wholesale operations include large regional produce, furniture, and industrial and construction machinery depots.

Guiyang to Kunming railway build in 1960s, the most famous bridge in this railway is Tianshengxia bridge located in Beipanjiang Tianshengqiao section. Old Tianshengxia bridge has 55m high and total length 445m, in 2012, new Guiyang to Kunming double track railway completed, build a larger new Tianshengxia bridge with 104m high,just parallel the old bridge. From this video's 24:00 to 25:00 we can seen the Tianshengxia bridge(Tianshengqiao, in Chinese means nature arch bridge)
The Tianshengxia bridge's most intersting thing is it in fact build on a giant nature arch more than 300m high. Beipanjiang cross a hole beneath this nature arch ,the old and new railway bridge all located on this giant limestone arch strcture. At 1960s Chinese engineers can't overcome great difficulties to cross nearly 1000m deep Beipanjiang gorge,so they choice cross this river through it's only nature arch to reduce high of the bridge. Now people can use long tunnels to reduce bridge's height, but mordern day Beipanjiang railway bridges still need nearly 300m high above this the most narrow canyon in the world.

Guiyang
Guìyáng (Chinese: 贵阳) is the capital of Guizhou province of Southwest China. It is located in the centre of the province, situated on the east of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River. The city has an elevation of about 1,100 meters. It has an area of 8,034 square kilometres (3,102 sq mi). Its population was 4,324,561 at the 2010 census whom 3,037,159 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made of 7 urban districts.
History
The city was first constructed as early as 1283 AD during the Yuan dynasty. It was originally called Shunyuan (順元), meaning obeying the Yuan (the Mongol rulers).
Geography
Guiyang has grown rapidly since the 1990s. The city's heart is around the 大十字 (literally "Big Cross") which is a cross, resembling the Chinese character for ten, and 喷水池 (literally "Fountain Pool"), a traffic intersection, in the center of which used to be a large fountain until early 2010, it was paved over for better traffic.
Climate
Guiyang has a four-season, monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cwa), tempered by its low latitude and high elevation. It has cool winters and moderate-temperature summers; the majority of the year's 1,118 millimetres (44.0 in) of precipitation occurs from May to July. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 5.1 °C (41.2 °F) in January to 23.9 °C (75.0 °F) in July, while the annual mean is 15.35 °C (59.6 °F). Rain is common throughout the year, with occasional flurries in winter. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 12 percent in January to 41 percent in August, the city receives only 1150 hours of sunshine, making it one of China's least sunny major cities. Average monthly relative humidity is consistently above 75% throughout the year. The moderate temperature together with other factors including air quality, wind speed, etc. made Guiyang to be ranked No.2 in the "Top 10 Summer Capitals of China".

Traveling to Guizhou Province for the 2012 China Travel Photography Arts Festival, we spent our first night in Guiyang, the capitol. While there was no group sightseeing here, I did manage to get some photos near our hotel and along the river front at night of Hongfu Temple and nearby buildings. The following description is from wikipedia.org: Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province of Southwest China. It is located in the centre of the province, situated on the east of the Yunnan--Guizhou Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River. Guiyang to Kunming railway build in 1960s, the most famous bridge in this railway is Tianshengxia bridge located in Beipanjiang Tianshengqiao section. Old Tianshengxia bridge has 55m high and total length 445m, in 2012, new Guiyang to Kunming double track railway completed, build a larger new Tianshengxia bridge with 104m high,just parallel the old bridge. Guiyang to Kunming railway build in 1960s, the most famous bridge in this railway is Tianshengxia bridge located in Beipanjiang Tianshengqiao section. Old Tianshengxia bridge has 55m high and total length 445m, in 2012, new Guiyang to Kunming double track railway completed, build a larger new Tianshengxia bridge with 104m high,just parallel the old bridge. From this video's 24:00 to 25:00 we can seen the Tianshengxia bridge(Tianshengqiao, in Chinese means nature arch bridge)
The Tianshengxia bridge's most intersting thing is it in fact build on a giant nature arch more than 300m high. Beipanjiang cross a hole beneath this nature arch ,the old and new railway bridge all located on this giant limestone arch strcture. At 1960s Chinese engineers can't overcome great difficulties to cross nearly 1000m deep Beipanjiang gorge,so they choice cross this river through it's only nature arch to reduce high of the bridge. Now people can use long tunnels to reduce bridge's height, but mordern day Beipanjiang railway bridges still need nearly 300m high above this the most narrow canyon in the world.

During the past decade, growth that could not be absorbed by the Old City led to development of a nearby 'twin city', thereby gradually altering the functions and status of the Old City. The need to find a better balance for the growth of the region led authorities to commission an LRDP to guide renewal of the Old City over the next decade.
To establish baseline conditions and redevelopment opportunities, extensive field surveys and data collection took place. This led to the discovery that the Guancheng River, a tributary to the Nanming River, had been covered by other uses. Restoring this river, introducing three new transit corridors, and deciding to retain existing road alignments became some of the primary strategies used to develop the design framework that underpins the LRDP.
Density has been raised by 30%, with a significant portion of this being in TOD nodes and along transit corridors. In most of the 56 tracts the existing balance of land uses is maintained in order to retain social and historic essence, open space and the public realm has been enhanced, and carefully inserted new roads and pedestrian links reduce block sizes and improved accessibility. The resulting form of the 'new' city speaks to the possibilities for balancing traditional values and lifestyles with the optimism of a progressive future without radical 'surgery'. The Old City can retain its character and still be the heart of the region.
