Director's statement
I have always been curious about science and its various manifestations and investigations that push our threshold of knowledge above current limits. The level of competence of artificial intelligence and whether robots would one day be able to feel emotions like humans do are aspects of the scientific endeavor I am particularly interested in. But with the attainment of sentience from machines, another question has arisen in my mind - should we grant robots the same "human rights" their biological counterparts enjoy, at least in the developed world? These questions, and their potential answers, motivated me in the first place to develop Autonomous.
I am as much interested in the human drama unfolding on screen as I am in the action. I wanted the atmosphere to be dark and gritty, emphasizing the hero's inner feelings and emotional turbulence, and his eventual transformation. Without negating the film's action and thriller aspects, I wanted Autonomous to tell primarily a story about the human condition and thus, the human story to be in the foreground. The pacing of the film was deliberate and I wanted the pace to build up gradually as the drama unfolds. We achieved changes in mood and pacing aurally through sound and music, and visually through lighting and the use of handheld camera in the second half of the film.
Director's Bio
George Varotsis was born in Athens, Greece, and studied Industrial Management (BSc), Fiction Film Production (MA), and Cognitive Narrative Theory & Narratology (PhD), while his revised doctoral thesis, entitled "Screenplay and Narrative Theory" is now published by Lexington Books.
George has been involved in the production of TV commercials, TV dramas and feature films in various roles. In 2005, he co-founded Split Second Film Productions in London, which he left in 2008 to pursue freelance film production opportunities.
He's member of the Greek Screenwriters Guild (GSG) and he's been a visiting lecturer at Regent's University and the Central Film School, both in London, the University of Birmingham and at the Henley Business School of the University of Reading.
George has written, produced and directed short films while he's making his foray into TV commercials. He's represented as writer/director by Jake Friedman at Scenario Los Angeles.

Hey guys! Thanks for hanging in there for the last few months while we have been super busy with client related work and school. This is our first official film and it is not necessarily the direction we are heading with our channel but we thought you might enjoy it! Science fiction

Live action
In filmmaking, video production, and other media, live action refers to cinematography or videography that does not use animation (though sometimes based on an original animated series).
As the normal process of making visual media involves live action, the term itself is usually superfluous, but it makes an important distinction in situations in which one might normally expect animation, as in a Pixar film, a video game, or when the work is adapted from an animated cartoon, such as Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, 101 Dalmatians films, or The Tick television program.
The phrase "live action" also occurs within an animation context to refer to non-animated characters: in a live-action/animated film such as Space Jam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, or Mary Poppins in which humans and cartoons co-exist, "live-action" characters are the "real" actors, such as Bob Hoskins and Julie Andrews, as opposed to the animated "actors", such as Roger Rabbit himself.
As use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) in films has become a major trend, some critics, such as Mark Langer, have discussed the relationship and overlap between live action and animation. School

Give Yourself Goosebumps
Give Yourself Goosebumps was a children's horror fiction gamebook series by R. L. Stine. After the success of the regular Goosebumps books, Scholastic Press decided to create this spin-off series in 1995. In fact, Stine had written gamebooks in previous years.
Fifty books in the series, including the "special editions" were published between 1995 and 2000. All of the books in the series are now out of print.

Director's statement
I have always been curious about science and its various manifestations and investigations that push our threshold of knowledge above current limits. The level of competence of artificial intelligence and whether robots would one day be able to feel emotions like humans do are aspects of the scientific endeavor I am particularly interested in. But with the attainment of sentience from machines, another question has arisen in my mind - should we grant robots the same "human rights" their biological counterparts enjoy, at least in the developed world? These questions, and their potential answers, motivated me in the first place to develop Autonomous.
I am as much interested in the human drama unfolding on screen as I am in the action. I wanted the atmosphere to be dark and gritty, emphasizing the hero's inner feelings and emotional turbulence, and his eventual transformation. Without negating the film's action and thriller aspects, I wanted Autonomous to tell primarily a story about the human condition and thus, the human story to be in the foreground. The pacing of the film was deliberate and I wanted the pace to build up gradually as the drama unfolds. We achieved changes in mood and pacing aurally through sound and music, and visually through lighting and the use of handheld camera in the second half of the film.
Director's Bio
George Varotsis was born in Athens, Greece, and studied Industrial Management (BSc), Fiction Film Production (MA), and Cognitive Narrative Theory & Narratology (PhD), while his revised doctoral thesis, entitled "Screenplay and Narrative Theory" is now published by Lexington Books.
George has been involved in the production of TV commercials, TV dramas and feature films in various roles. In 2005, he co-founded Split Second Film Productions in London, which he left in 2008 to pursue freelance film production opportunities.
He's member of the Greek Screenwriters Guild (GSG) and he's been a visiting lecturer at Regent's University and the Central Film School, both in London, the University of Birmingham and at the Henley Business School of the University of Reading.
George has written, produced and directed short films while he's making his foray into TV commercials. He's represented as writer/director by Jake Friedman at Scenario Los Angeles.

I wanted the atmosphere to be dark and gritty, emphasizing the hero's inner feelings and emotional turbulence, and his eventual transformation. Without negating the film's action and thriller aspects, I wanted Autonomous to tell primarily a story about the human condition and thus, the human story to be in the foreground. The pacing of the film was deliberate and I wanted the pace to build up gradually as the drama unfolds. We achieved changes in mood and pacing aurally through sound and music, and visually through lighting and the use of handheld camera in the second half of the film.
Director's Bio
George Varotsis was born in Athens, Greece, and studied Industrial Management (BSc), Fiction Film Production (MA), and Cognitive Narrative Theory & Narratology (PhD), while his revised doctoral thesis, entitled "Screenplay and Narrative Theory" is now published by Lexington Books.
George has been involved in the production of TV commercials, TV dramas and feature films in various roles. In 2005, he co-founded Split Second Film Productions in London, which he left in 2008 to pursue freelance film production opportunities.
He's member of the Greek Screenwriters Guild (GSG) and he's been a visiting lecturer at Regent's University and the Central Film School, both in London, the University of Birmingham and at the Henley Business School of the University of Reading.
George has written, produced and directed short films while he's making his foray into TV commercials. He's represented as writer/director by Jake Friedman at Scenario Los Angeles.

Director's statement
I have always been curious about science and its various manifestations and investigations that push our threshold of knowledge above current limits. The level of competence of artificial intelligence and whether robots would one day be able to feel emotions like humans do are aspects of the scientific endeavor I am particularly interested in. But with the attainment of sentience from machines, another question has arisen in my mind - should we grant robots the same "human rights" their biological counterparts enjoy, at least in the developed world? These questions, and their potential answers, motivated me in the first place to develop Autonomous.
I am as much interested in the human drama unfolding on screen as I am in the action. I wanted the atmosphere to be dark and gritty, emphasizing the hero's inner feelings and emotional turbulence, and his eventual transformation. Without negating the film's action and thriller aspects, I wanted Autonomous to tell primarily a story about the human condition and thus, the human story to be in the foreground. The pacing of the film was deliberate and I wanted the pace to build up gradually as the drama unfolds. We achieved changes in mood and pacing aurally through sound and music, and visually through lighting and the use of handheld camera in the second half of the film.
Director's Bio
George Varotsis was born in Athens, Greece, and studied Industrial Management (BSc), Fiction Film Production (MA), and Cognitive Narrative Theory & Narratology (PhD), while his revised doctoral thesis, entitled "Screenplay and Narrative Theory" is now published by Lexington Books.
George has been involved in the production of TV commercials, TV dramas and feature films in various roles. In 2005, he co-founded Split Second Film Productions in London, which he left in 2008 to pursue freelance film production opportunities.
He's member of the Greek Screenwriters Guild (GSG) and he's been a visiting lecturer at Regent's University and the Central Film School, both in London, the University of Birmingham and at the Henley Business School of the University of Reading.
George has written, produced and directed short films while he's making his foray into TV commercials. He's represented as writer/director by Jake Friedman at Scenario Los Angeles.

In einer dystopischen Zukunft, in der Schmerzen sowie alle anderen Emotionen durch eine von der Regierung verabreichte Droge, genannt Torpase, unterdrückt werden, durchlebt Joshua Barrett (Tommy Martin) in dem Ort Cheery Point tagein tagaus dieselbe sich wiederholende Monotonie - sowohl bei der Arbeit als auch in seinem Zuhause, das er sich mit seiner Mutter Caroline (Jennifer Wilkens) teilt. Als er jedoch von dem rebellischen Priester Albert Camus (Richard Hackel) entführt wird, eröffnet sich ihm in dem abgelegenen Lager, in dem Camus‘ Anhänger ohne den Einfluss der Droge Torpase leben, eine ganz neue Welt. Nach und nach erfährt Joshua die wahre Bedeutung von Leben und dass es ohne die von Schmerz und Verzweiflung ausgelösten Nöte nichts wert ist.
