BBC Online, formerly known as BBCi, is the brand name and home for the BBC's UK online service. It is a large network of websites including such high profile sites as BBC News and Sport, the on-demand video and radio services co-branded BBC iPlayer, the pre-school site CBeebies, and learning services such as Bitesize. The BBC has had an online presence supporting its TV and radio programmes and web-only initiatives since 1994 but did not launch officially until December 1997, following government approval to fund it by TV licence fee revenue as a service in its own right. Throughout its short history, the online plans of the BBC have been subject to harassment from its commercial rivals, which has resulted in various public consultations and government reviews to investigate their claims that its large presence and public funding distorts the UK market.
The website has gone through several branding changes since it was launched. Originally named BBC Online, it was then rebranded as BBCi (which itself was the brand name for interactive TV services) before being named bbc.co.uk. It was then branded BBC Online again in 2008. The Web-based service of the BBC is one of the most visited websites (fifty-fifth most visited according to Alexa in January 2013) and the world's largest news website. As of 2007, it contained over two million pages.

An important study in human behavior, used in psychology lessons around the world. This was party funded by the UK TV Licence payers (myself included). I'm disgusted that this series isn't available to watch somewhere on the internet. At the very least, the BBC should put it on the iplayer, or repeat the series on one of their channels. This is all the video I could find on The Experiment, apart from the trailer for the series, which someone was nice enough to upload. If anyone knows where people interested could see it, please share with us in the comments.

Backpage website head Carl Ferrer faces sex charges Carl Ferrer, head of small ads website Backpage.com has been arrested on allegations of pimping, the California Attorney General has announced. A three-year investigation concluded that "many" of its adult escort adverts involved prostitutes and victims of sex trafficking, including children, the department said. Warrants have also been issued for two controlling shareholders. The site, which operates around the world, is still online. Allegations that the site has carried adverts aiding forced prostitution have dogged the platform for some years. When the BBC reported this in 2012, the site's owners said they were acting legally and co-operating with authorities to help prosecute those who misused it. It says in its terms and conditions...

David Cameron tells Andrew Marr he has negotiated a deal worth staying in the EU for, so "why take a leap into the dark and leave". People like Nigel Farage said Britain would never be able to negotiate out of "ever closer union" but he has secured it, he says. He also says the deal means "no more something for nothing", with the agreement to restrict child benefit for EU migrants - another thing he says others argued would never be possible. Poet Simon Armitage goes on the trail of one of the jewels in the crown of British poetry, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written about 600 years ago by an unknown author. The poem has got just about everything - it is an action-packed adventure, a ghost story, a steamy romance, a morality tale and the world's first eco-poem. Armitage follows in the footsteps of the poem's hero, Gawain, through some of Britain's most beautiful and mystical landscapes and reveals why an absurd tale of a knight beheading a green giant is as relevant and compelling today as when it was written. This programme is part of Norman Season on BBC Two and BBC Four, a collection of programmes highlighting the effect that the Normans have had on our civilisation. http://www.bbc.co.uk/tv/features/norman-season...
