With Anthony Gose at Double-A Erie, the next man up is Alex Presley.
The Detroit Tigers transferred the veteran outfielder from Single-A Lakeland to Triple-A Toledo this afternoon. Presley will serve as a backup outfielder.
Presley, 29, is a lifetime .253 hitter in parts of seven big league seasons. He has played for six teams, most recently the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season. In his most extended look in the major leagues, Presley hit .237 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012.
Like Gose, Presley swings left-handed. He signed a minor league over the weekend and represents organizational depth.
Gose, 25, was placed on the suspended list for three days and transferred from the Mud Hens to Double-A Erie after a dugout confrontation with Toledo manager Lloyd McClendon on Saturday. He did not show up to the stadium for Sunday's game.
“After collectively evaluating the situation in Toledo, we spoke with Anthony and emphasized our organization’s expectations of him,” Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement Wednesday. “Most importantly, Anthony’s transfer to Erie is a move to give him a fresh start to his overall performance as he works his way back to Detroit."
Gose was the Tigers’ starting outfielder on Opening Day. He was optioned to Toledo on May 15 after hitting .209 in the team’s first 30 games. He hit .254 last season and is a lifetime .240 hitter in five seasons. This year with the Mud Hens, he is hitting .185 in 50 games.
