After being hit by a devastating earthquake in 2011, which closed much of the city centre for two years, Christchurch has made a comeback. New Zealand's second-largest city was rebuilt using innovative designs such as the Cardboard Cathedral that replaced the damaged icon of the city, and the Re:Start mall that features shops inside shipping containers. But the city maintains its English university town-style charm.
