The National Convention (French: Convention nationale) was a single-chamber assembly in France from 20 September 1792 to 26 October 1795 (4 Brumaire IV under the Convention's adopted calendar) during the French Revolution. It succeeded the Legislative Assembly and founded the First Republic after the insurrection of 10 August 1792. The Legislative Assembly decreed the provisional suspension of King Louis XVI and the convocation of a National Convention which was to draw up a constitution. At the same time it was decided that deputies to that convention should be elected by all Frenchmen twenty-five years old or more, domiciled for a year and living by the product of their labor. The National Convention was therefore the first French assembly elected by universal male suffrage, without distinctions of class.
The election took place from 2 to 6 September 1792 after the election of the electoral colleges by primary assemblies on 26 August. Owing to the abstention of aristocrats and anti-republicans and the fear of victimization the voter turnout in the departments was low – 11.9% of the electorate, compared to 10.2% in the 1791 elections, in spite of the fact that that the number of eligible to vote had doubled. Therefore, universal suffrage had very little impact. On the whole, the electorate returned the same sort of men that the active citizens had chosen in 1791.
The United States 2016 Libertarian National Convention, in which delegates of the Libertarian Party choose the party's nominees for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States in the 2016 national election, is scheduled to be held 26–30 May 2016 in Orlando, Florida.
The theme of this convention will be #LegalizeFreedom.
Speakers will include:
More speakers have yet to be announced.
The Libertarian National Convention is held every two years by the United States Libertarian Party to choose members of the Libertarian National Committee, and to conduct other party business. In presidential election years, the convention delegates enact a platform and nominate the Libertarian presidential and vice-presidential candidates who then face the nominees of other parties in the November general election.
While most delegates to the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention are tied to particular candidates, delegates to the Libertarian National Convention are free to choose, as was previously the case for the larger parties. Accordingly, Libertarian National Conventions place less emphasis on festivities and spinning the press, though some of each may be found. The complete convention is televised by C-SPAN with additional broadcast television coverage of the presidential nominating process. None of the above is always an option on all ballots.
Libertarian Party may refer to several libertarian political parties, to include:
Libertarianism (Latin: liber, "free") is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as its principal objective. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and freedom of choice, emphasizing political freedom, voluntary association, and the primacy of individual judgment.
Libertarians generally share a skepticism of authority; however, they diverge on the scope of their opposition to existing political and economic systems. Various schools of libertarian thought offer a range of views regarding the legitimate functions of state and private power, often calling to restrict or even to wholly dissolve coercive social institutions. Rather than embodying a singular, rigid systematic theory or ideology, libertarianism has been applied as an umbrella term to a wide range of sometimes discordant political ideas through modern history.
Some libertarians advocate laissez-faire capitalism and strong private property rights, such as in land, infrastructure, and natural resources. Others, notably libertarian socialists, seek to abolish capitalism and private ownership of the means of production in favor of their common or cooperative ownership and management. An additional line of division is between minarchists and anarchists. While minarchists think that a minimal centralized government is necessary, anarchists propose to completely eliminate the state.
Reason TV was on the floor of the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando, Florida as the party nominated its presidential ticket of two former governors: Gary Johnson and William Weld. Emotions ran high as activists unsatisfied with the libertarian bona fides of vice presidential nominee Weld forced multiple votes on both the presidential and vice presidential ballots. Johnson took to the stage and pled with delegates to give him his vice presidential choice, arguing that it's the only chance at maximizing national exposure for the party and possibly even taking the White House. Many libertarians are feeling disenfranchised from the convention since two former republican governors with ties to the Koch brothers won the nomination after a contested convention. We go over all the details of what transpired and the behind the scenes political moves for the 2016 presidential election. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support WeAreChange by Subscribing to our channel HERE http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=WeAreChange Visit our main site for more breaking news http://wearechange.org/ Patreon https://www.patreon.com/WeAreChange?alert=1&ty;=h SnapChat: LukeWeAreChange Facebook: h...
