TOTO singer Joseph Williams teams up with former Chicago singer Bill Champlin and Swedish guitarist/Producer Peter Friestedt for a new remarkable AOR release following the success with the ”Live In Concert” DVD that made it all the way to the top on the Swedish Chart!
In 2012 Champlin/Willams/Friestedt did a sold out Scandinavian Tour and during this time the first recordings of the "CWF" album took place! The new album also includes contributions from Steve Porcaro of Toto, Randy Goodrum (Toto, Chicago), Will Champlin and Tamara Champlin.
Champlin says "I’ve been involved with a project that includes me, Peter Friestedt a great guitarist and producer from Sweden, and Joseph Williams, the singer of TOTO!
I was pretty knocked out by the stuff. I’d almost forgotten how good it was when we did it. There are great songs and even better performances on this album, and I know you’ll love it It’s rare for me to be involved with a project and be surprised by how good it is. This one will knock you out"
Joseph Williams is the lead vocalist with Grammy winning US band TOTO.
He has been busy as a composer of film and drama scores, as a session vocalist, backing singer and can be heard in Disney’s animated feature film “The Lion King”as singing voice of the adult Simba (“Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”).
Guitarist, producer & recording artist Peter Friestedt has released two critically acclaimed albums “LA Project” (2002) and “LA Project II” (2008) that got top reviews. Peter has been a busy sessionplayer playin on records with David Foster and Fergie Frederiksen and touring Europe and Japan with Joseph Williams with who he also released the "Williams/Friestedt" album that was a top 40 hit in Scandinavia!
Bill Champlin was the lead singer of the legendary band Chicago for more than 25 years, and is a founding member of the band Sons of Champlin. Champlin has written Grammy award winning songs for Earth Wind & Fire and George Benson, and worked with countless artists including Elton John, The Doobie Brothers and Steve Lukather of TOTO.

Bill Champlin served as lead singer, primary songwriter, keyboard player, rhythm guitarist, and occasional saxophonist in the Bay Area band the Sons of Champlin from 1965 to 1977, shepherding the middle-level San Francisco rock group through seven modestly selling albums. In August 1977, he quit the band that bore his name and moved to Los Angeles, where he became a busy session singer. Not surprisingly, that soon led to his own solo recording contract and his debut album, Single. To anyone expecting acid rock from a veteran hippie musician, however, Champlin announces his change of direction on the album cover, an elaborately staged photograph of him admiring himself in a three-sided mirror, dressed in a tuxedo, his hair and beard fashionably trimmed, as a cadre of tailors tries to tempt him with more colorful fabrics and outfits. The picture is a signal on which the album follows through, although those who bought the Sons of Champlin's last three albums, The Sons of Champlin, A Circle Filled with Love, and Loving Is Why will not be greatly shocked. Single is simply an extension of those LPs, which were moving in a more commercial direction already. Champlin had hooked up with producer David Foster to write and record a collection of love songs very much in the mold of Boz Scaggs' blue-eyed soul blockbuster Silk Degrees. Lead-off track and single release "What Good Is Love" has a loping disco beat, and the rest of the album consists of sleek -- and sometimes slick -- '70s white R&B;, as played by a cast of Los Angeles studio pros including all six of the future members of Toto. The punchy horns are arranged by Jerry Hey, the sweeping string charts by Marty Paich, and the background vocals are handled by a team that includes Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers and Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. At the center of it all is Champlin, whose soulful, rhythmic voice ranges from a tender tenor to a gruff baritone, sometimes in the same line. The songs don't have much to say; in clichéd language, Champlin is either complaining about love gone bad or celebrating love that's going well. This is an album concerned with style, not substance, and it is a state-of-the-art example of studio craft, circa 1978. So, why didn't anybody buy it? Probably because it went almost completely unpromoted. (Champlin did undertake a brief tour, but that was about it.) While nominally speaking "commercial," this is not the kind of music that sells itself, and no one seems to have worked very hard to sell it.

William Bradford "Bill" Champlin (born May 21, 1947, Oakland, California) is an American singer, guitarist, keyboard player, arranger, producer, and songwriter. His performance work is principally associated with the bands Chicago and the Sons of Champlin. He has won multiple Grammy Awards for songwriting.
As a child, Champlin demonstrated a talent for piano, and eventually picked up the guitar after being inspired by Elvis Presley. He started a band, The Opposite Six, while at Tamalpais High School, in Mill Valley, California and went on to study music in college, but was encouraged by a professor to drop out of school and pursue music professionally.
The Opposite Six, Champlin's band from high school, changed their name to the Sons of Champlin, and eventually recorded a number of well-reviewed but poorly-selling albums (including Loosen Up Naturally and Circle Filled With Love) by 1977, when the 30 year old Champlin moved to Los Angeles.
In LA he began extensive studio session work. He was especially in demand for his singing, appearing on hundreds of recordings throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) awarded Champlin the Most Valuable Player peer award for male background vocalists in 1980.

To anyone expecting acid rock from a veteran hippie musician, however, Champlin announces his change of direction on the album cover, an elaborately staged photograph of him admiring himself in a three-sided mirror, dressed in a tuxedo, his hair and beard fashionably trimmed, as a cadre of tailors tries to tempt him with more colorful fabrics and outfits. The picture is a signal on which the album follows through, although those who bought the Sons of Champlin's last three albums, The Sons of Champlin, A Circle Filled with Love, and Loving Is Why will not be greatly shocked. Single is simply an extension of those LPs, which were moving in a more commercial direction already. Champlin had hooked up with producer David Foster to write and record a collection of love songs very much in the mold of Boz Scaggs' blue-eyed soul blockbuster Silk Degrees. Lead-off track and single release "What Good Is Love" has a loping disco beat, and the rest of the album consists of sleek -- and sometimes slick -- '70s white R&B;, as played by a cast of Los Angeles studio pros including all six of the future members of Toto. The punchy horns are arranged by Jerry Hey, the sweeping string charts by Marty Paich, and the background vocals are handled by a team that includes Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers and Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. At the center of it all is Champlin, whose soulful, rhythmic voice ranges from a tender tenor to a gruff baritone, sometimes in the same line. The songs don't have much to say; in clichéd language, Champlin is either complaining about love gone bad or celebrating love that's going well. This is an album concerned with style, not substance, and it is a state-of-the-art example of studio craft, circa 1978. So, why didn't anybody buy it? Probably because it went almost completely unpromoted. (Champlin did undertake a brief tour, but that was about it.) Performing between ex-Quicksilver Messenger Service guitarist John Cipollina's band, Copperhead, and the final incarnation of the original Quicksilver themselves, The Sons of Champlin deliver a set of their unique psychadelicized soul-funk. The band was promoting its fourth album, Welcome To The Dance, an album everyone believed would gain them the recognition that had eluded them through the years. Adding elements of soul and funk to their root sound built on a blend of rock, R&B;, and jazz, the band was brimming with talent. The new songs were some of Bill Champlin's best compositions and the album contained their most accessible material to date. The Sons overt positive energy and life-affirming lyrics were a holdback to the '60s, but they did it with style well into the 1970s and always with great enthusiasm and musicianship.
The set kicks off with a tightly arranged instrumental that showcases the jazzier side of the band and features impressive sax work. After rectifying a bass drum problem on stage, they dive into "Lightnin'," one of the catchiest tracks from the new album. "Queen Of The Rain," a song from their self-titled fifth album comes next. This breezy number features Geoff Palmer on vibraphone, which is a pure delight. Palmer's talents are as integral to the Sons' sound as Champlin's baritone, Haggerty's jazz-influenced guitar chops or the horn section's wall of brass. "Smile Upon Our Face," a storytelling R&B; flavored number, full of the upbeat good vibes that were always the bands trademark, follows this. Many of these songs celebrate life and are overly optimistic in retrospect, but that was always part of the band's charm. The Sons notch up the intensity level for the high-energy organ-dominated rocker, "Welcome To The Dance," ending the set on a celebratory note.
The audience wants more and the Sons oblige with an extended encore that will delight long time fans. The Loosen Up Naturally tracks "Freedom" and "Get High," both of which were originally arranged as a three-part interplay between alto and tenor saxes and trumpet, get a full-blown workout here. Palmer's keyboard work is exceptional and he and bass player Dave Shallock establish the initial groove. Shifting into a horn-driven jam, this builds momentum through the verses. Approximately six minutes in, the band eases into a vamp that lays the foundation for guitarist Terry Haggerty to take off. Throughout this show, Haggerty has remained tightly restrained, always adding tasty rhythmic elements and helping to propel the overall sound, but never truly cutting loose. Here we are finally treated to one of Haggerty's complex, blistering guitar runs, which raises this material to an astonishing level. When they return from this great jam and complete the song, they never stop, immediately segueing into another jam that features Champlin scat singing as the band improvises, eventually launching into "Get High." Once again Palmer takes to the vibraphone and the entire band plays with passion. This funky highly original rocker defines the original sound of the group and remains compelling decades later. The band's inclusion of a vibraphone was one of the aspects of the Sons which set them apart from horn bands like Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Tower of Power from the beginning. Nearly 20 minutes after it began, this remarkable encore comes to a close, setting the stage for a powerful set from Quicksilver Messenger Service.

TOTO singer Joseph Williams teams up with former Chicago singer Bill Champlin and Swedish guitarist/Producer Peter Friestedt for a new remarkable AOR release following the success with the ”Live In Concert” DVD that made it all the way to the top on the Swedish Chart!
In 2012 Champlin/Willams/Friestedt did a sold out Scandinavian Tour and during this time the first recordings of the ”CWF” album took place! The new album also includes contributions from Steve Porcaro of Toto, Randy Goodrum (Toto, Chicago), Will Champlin and Tamara Champlin.
Champlin says ”I’ve been involved with a project that includes me, Peter Friestedt a great guitarist and producer from Sweden, and Joseph Williams, the singer of TOTO! I was pretty knocked out by the stuff. I’d almost forgotten how good it was when we did it. There are great songs and even better performances on this album, and I know you’ll love it It’s rare for me to be involved with a project and be surprised by how good it is. This one will knock you out”
Joseph Williams is the lead vocalist with Grammy winning US band TOTO. He has been busy as a composer of film and drama scores, as a session vocalist, backing singer and can be heard in Disney’s animated feature film “The Lion King”as singing voice of the adult Simba (“Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”).
Guitarist, producer & recording artist Peter Friestedt has released two critically acclaimed albums “LA Project” (2002) and “LA Project II” (2008) that got top reviews. Peter has been a busy sessionplayer playin on records with David Foster and Fergie Frederiksen and touring Europe and Japan with Joseph Williams with who he also released the ”Williams/Friestedt” album that was a top 40 hit in Scandinavia!
Bill Champlin was the lead singer of the legendary band Chicago for more than 25 years, and is a founding member of the band Sons of Champlin. Champlin has written Grammy award winning songs for Earth Wind & Fire and George Benson, and worked with countless artists including Elton John, The Doobie Brothers and Steve Lukather of TOTO.
