In this lesson, we learned about the three different credit organizations that rate a company's debt. Those three organizations are Standard and Poors, Fitch, and Moody's.
Although each of these organization do the same thing, we learned that the scoring techniques and accuracy is different.
It's very important to understand the risks associated with each credit rating, and that's why we compared the chance of default to the letter score.
Understanding the chance of default provides an investor actual data to determine their appetite for risk.
When assessing the risk between a corporate bond and a municipal bond, we know that the letter rating system is flawed because the historical percentages are drastically different. This is something every investor should think about before investing in a AAA municipal bond.
In the end, we learned that each investor needs to determine their own risk and make judgments for themselves. Remember the greatest risk is not knowing what you're doing. So do your research and think about what credit scores actually mean.

Ask a random person if he has ever heard of "S&P;" and he might say that yes, the term sounds familiar but then again, chances are the individual in question would probably make the same statement if you asked him about "P&G;" or any other "you've probably heard about it but don't quite know where" household name.
Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of individuals know next to nothing about why credit rating agencies such as the (in)famous big three (Standard & Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Group) exist and most importantly... why the average person should care.
Ironically, ask the same people about the Great Recession and you will hear a mouthful about how bad it was for them. Unfortunately, credit rating agencies have played a key negative role as far as the entire MBS fiasco associated with the Great Recession is concerned and as such, it might be wise to learn a thing or two about them.
Does the purpose of this video revolve around explaining that Moody's, S&P; and/or Fitch are somehow evil entities that indent to destroy the financial world as we know it? Of course not, credit rating agencies can actually be extremely useful under the right circumstance, which is why it is important to place adequate pressure on them to treat their systemic role much more seriously. Fair enough?

Here we discuss the S&P; 500 Index, the "broad" U.S. index, encompassing 500 of the largest company in the economy and possibly providing the best idea of how all sectors are working at any given time.
But what is the S&P; 500 100 index? The S&P; 500 is among the top American indexes as it represents some of the largest public companies in the U.S. The S&P; 500 index focuses on the so-called large-cap sector and is float-weighted - it's price level and list of companies are adjusted by the number of shares available for public trading.
The S&P; 500 is believed to be preferred by institutional investors like pension funds, banks and hedge funds, whereas the Dow Jones has been the go-to index for individual, retail investors. As it's broader and provides a wider picture with 500 companies in it, institutional investors prefer looking and investing in it because it has more stocks across all economic sectors (whereas the Dow has only 30 companies).
As a stock index for beginners, it can also be found as the US 500 index and together with the Dow Jones are cited as the best gauges of the U.S. stock market. The focus of this video is index trading for beginners but if you have any questions, leave us a comment below and we'll get back to you.
So if you want to learn stock trading for beginners and also understand "how can I trade the S&P;?", watch this video and subscribe to our channel for regular updates about this US stock index.
