Peter Hook (born 13 February 1956) is an English bass player, co-founder of the seminal post-punk band Joy Division along with Bernard Sumner in the mid-1970s. He is also a musician, singer, DJ, nightclub owner and author. Following the death of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis, the band reformed as the rock band, New Order, and Hook played bass with them until his departure in 2007. The band has since reformed without Hook. He has also recorded an album with Revenge (One True Passion), two albums with Monaco (Music for Pleasure and Monaco) and one album with Freebass (It's a Beautiful Life) as bassist, keyboardist and lead vocalist. He is currently lead vocalist and bassist for Peter Hook and the Light.
Born Peter Woodhead in Broughton, Salford, to Irene Acton (1928–2000; since 1962 Irene Hook), and John Woodhead. When he was the age of 3, in 1959, his parents divorced and he and his brothers were brought up by his maternal grandmother Alicia Acton (born Chapman; 1896–1968) until 1962, when his mother remarried Ernest W. Hook. Like his band-mate Bernard Sumner, he took his stepfather's surname, although in contrast to his friend he kept it, even creating his nickname, "Hooky," from it. Because of his stepfather's work, he spent part of his childhood in Jamaica before returning to Salford, where he attended Salford Grammar School.

Plot: The efforts of test pilot John Mitchell to make a better life for his wife Mary and their two children seem doomed to failure and he blames himself. At the Conway Aero-Manufacturing Company of Wolverhampton, Mitchell is to take the company's new rocket-propulsion transport plane up for tests, fully loaded and carrying two important passengers - Ministry official Crabtree and buyer's representative Ashmore. Mitchell learns from his boss, Reg Conway, that if Ashmore does not recommend the plane, the company will be out of business and Mitchell out of a job, since the plane is not even insured as the firm's entire capital is tied up in the plane. Aloft, an engine catches fire and the passengers and other crew bail out, but Mitchell refuses to obey orders to jettison the plane in the Irish Sea.

I was lucky enough to get to go to Manchester UK in summer '01 to interview New Order in advance of their "Get Ready" album. I was the last interview, and the band was preparing to tour with Moby's Area 2 festival, so instead of doing the interview at a hotel in Manchester, I got to drive out to the countryside where Stephen, the drummer, lived with family - and where the band, I discerned from the thump thump thumpa thumpa thump through the farmhouse walls as we rolled up past the grandpa in wellies and the sheepdog - rehearsing for the tour. Full interview clips to follow, but I did get a chance to play Hooky's bass and my favorite bassline - only to get schooled that I was in fact playing it wrong. Galaxy 500 had the same experience when they covered "Ceremony." If you'd like to see mo...

It's been 40 years since Peter Hook founded Joy Division, and became a pioneering bassist in an era-defining band. After the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis, the remaining members formed New Order, and morphed their sound from raw post-punk to dark electronic dance music. In 2007, Hook left the band in bitter and disputed circumstances, and ever since the former bandmates have been embroiled in a verbal and legal conflict that Peter acidly describes in Part 2 of this interview with journalist and MTV's "120 Minutes" creator Dave Kendall. Here in Part 1, Hooky describes the emotional and technical challenges of performing both Joy Division's and New Order's "Substance" compilations on his current North American tour, how he wound up in front of the mic with his son Jack on bass, and what...

We caught up with Mancunian legend, Peter 'Hooky' Hook of New Order & Joy Division fame at our event in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust at Manchester's Hotel Football.
Sorry about the interview cutting off abruptly - the SD card thought it would be a spectacular idea to run out of room at that exact moment. Hey ho, this video should more than suffice. I met Peter after his masterclass. A few months ago, I bought his book (Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division) a few months ago for him to sign it but, unbelievably, I forgot to bring it the day he was appearing at the bass show! Doh! I told him this after I had a picture taken of me with him and he very kindly said, 'I have a show in September. If you bring it then, I'll sign it for you.' What a nice man! A very entertaining session. Sunday, 13 March 2016.

The ex-Joy Division and New Order bassist was in conversation with Vic Galloway at The Mitchell Theatre in Glasgow in an Aye Write! festival event to publicise his new book Substance: Inside New Order. The first question (not recorded) was about the rift between Hook and the other surviving founder members of Joy Division Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris.
New Order bassist Peter Hook has opened up about his turbulent marriage to comedian Caroline Aherne, claiming in a new autobiography that she physically abused him. Hook and Aherne View photos REX The 60-year-old musician says the years of abuse meant that he “couldn’t in all good conscience” join in with the tributes to Caroline when she lost her battle with cancer last July at the age of 52. “Yes I loved her, yes she could be very funny, and there were times I felt privileged to have a private audience with such a great comic talent,” Hook writes in Substance. “But she was also a very troubled person and nowhere did that manifest itself more than in our relationship.” Describing the beginning of the violence, the bass player writes: “She attacked me, using her nails to scratch at my ...
