Travel preferences are very personal, so adjust my advice to your needs. - Pack for the weather of your destination and for the length of your stay. This trip is a long one so some things need to be adjusted for shorter vacations. - I am going to China not for the purpose of sightseeing, so if you are, consider packing pamphlets/ information about worthy sights you should visit at your destination, cultural information, a map, etc. - I recommend carrying a cross body bag as your carry-on purse, it is so much easier if you're like me and pack a whole lot of stuff in your purse. The weight really gets to you. To accommodate the limited room, I decided to take a carry-on suitcase, which is a lot easier to carry around b/c you can roll it, plus you can put your purse on it. - If you are taking a large carryon (suitcase), make sure to check your carrier's size limit, typically carriers do not care about the weight as long as it's under a certain size. - Get to the airport EARLY. For international flights, at least 2 hours. You never know with traffic and you DO NOT want to miss your flight. - Familiarize yourself with the TSA rules (especially the 3-1-1 liquids rule) http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information - Girls: cut down on the makeup! Keep it as minimal as possible (ie: one of each category). Same goes with clothing, try to pack some casual and one/ a few (depending on the length of your trip) formal outfits just in case. But KEEP IT MINIMAL. - In your checked luggage, keep anything liquid or anything that can leak in a plastic bag. You do not want it all over your clothes. - DO NOT pack ANY valuables in your checked luggage. - DO NOT use the expander on your suitcase (if it has one) or overstuff it on your way to your destination. You will likely bring back more than you brought, so plan ahead and leave room. - If you are traveling for a short period of time, transfer your products into containers and take samples!!! Also, nail polish remover pads are a lot easier than liquid remover.
