Chirk (Welsh: Y Waun, meaning The Moor) is a small town and local government community, the lowest tier of local government, part of Wrexham County Borough in Wales. In the 2011 census, it had a population of 4,468.
It is situated between Wrexham and Oswestry and has been part of the County Borough since local government reorganisation in 1996. The border with the English county of Shropshire is immediately south of the town, on the other side of the River Ceiriog.
The town is served by Chirk railway station and the A5/A483 roads.
Chirk Castle, a National Trust property, is a medieval castle. Two families are associated with the town and its castle, the Trevor family of Brynkinallt and the Myddletons. The Hughes of Gwerclas, a family descended from the ancient kings of Powys, also dwelt in the area for many years.
Attractions in the town apart from Chirk Castle include a section of Offa's Dyke and the Chirk Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal, built in 1801 by Thomas Telford. The Glyn Valley Tramway operated from here.
The Llangollen Canal (Welsh: Camlas Llangollen) is a navigable canal crossing the border between England and Wales. The waterway links Llangollen in Denbighshire, north Wales, with Hurleston in south Cheshire, via the town of Ellesmere, Shropshire. In 2009 an eleven-mile section of the canal from Gledrid Bridge near Rhoswiel through to the Horseshoe Falls, which includes Chirk Aqueduct and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
The waterway, from which the modern canal takes it name, was built when work to complete the Ellesmere Canal was halted in the early 19th century. The Ellesmere Canal was to be a commercial waterway that linked the Port of Liverpool to the West Midlands. However, due to a variety of problems, such as rising costs and rival competition, the scheme was never finished as intended. As the waterway never reached its proposed main source of water at Moss Valley, Wrexham, a feeder channel was constructed along the side of the Vale of Llangollen to the River Dee; the work created the Horseshoe Falls at Llantysilio.

What is left of the human race has reverted to a primitive state, believing the invaders to be demons and technology to be evil. After humanity has all but given up any hope of freeing themselves from alien oppression, a young man named Tyler decides to leave his desolate home high in the Rocky Mountains to discover the truth, whereupon he is captured and enslaved. Subscribe to SHABL - http://bit.ly/1uR4ogG I take a trip to North Wales from London, England. It starts with a train to Chester before meeting up with my new friend John from Boutique Tours and heading into Wales. There the road trip begins and we visit Hawarden Farm for lunch before visiting the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct along the Llangollen Canal, the city of Llangollen and finally the Valle Crucis Abbey on the way to Ruthin. Once in Ruthin we see the Ruthin Castle Hotel where I'm staying and that concludes the episode. http://stophavingaboringlife.com/discovering-north-wales/ Above is the original blog post I wrote about the day.

Thanks to Shirley Matthews and the team, the Summer Saturday Car Boot Sale, held at the beautifully located Marina Field at Burry Port in Carmarthenshire, West Wales is going from strength to strength. Sellers and buyers coming considerable distances to enjoy this ever growing event. A big thank you for the hard working organisers who make this and other events such a wonderful attraction for locals and visitors alike.

Seen in this video is the Colas logs hauled by 70805 working as 6M51 Baglan Bay - Chirk at Hereford. This working has reverted to 70's after a stint with 60's has now ended. I'm not sure wether we will see 56's again after another failure occurred just a few weeks ago when 56087 worked to Cardiff. Then seen is 66847 departing Hereford with 0Q02 with the loco to traverse the Malverns line to Worcester with the RILA equipment on the front, I didn't manage to get to the front of the loco till it left. It's now rare to see a locomotive in the bay at Hereford. Finally Freightliner cement is seen near Hereford with the first working between Aberthaw and Longnetring Power Station.
