Joan Osborne
Joan Elizabeth Osborne (born July 8, 1962) is an American singer-songwriter and interpreter of music, having recorded and performed in various popular American musical genres including pop, soul, R&B, blues and country. She is best known for her recording of the Eric Bazilian song "One of Us". She has toured with Motown sidemen the Funk Brothers and was featured in the documentary film about them, Standing in the Shadows of Motown.
Biography
Originally from Anchorage, Kentucky, a suburb of Louisville, Osborne moved to New York City in the late 1980s, where she formed her own record label, Womanly Hips, to release a few independent recordings. She signed with Mercury Records, and released her first full-length album, Soul Show: Live at Delta 88, in 1991. Her second (and first major label) album was Relish (1995), which became a hit on the strength of the single "One of Us." "Right Hand Man" and "St. Teresa" were minor hits, and "Spider Web" also received radio play. Osborne is bisexual. Her song "After Jane," on the album Pretty Little Stranger, touches on this as it is about a relationship between herself and a woman.

George Osborne
George Osborne (born Gideon Oliver Osborne; 23 May 1971) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been Chancellor of the Exchequer since 2010 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatton since 2001.
Osborne worked for The Daily Telegraph before joining the Conservative Research Department and becoming head of its political section. He was a special adviser to Douglas Hogg at the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and worked at 10 Downing Street as well as for Prime Minister John Major's campaign team in the party's unsuccessful 1997 general election campaign before becoming a speechwriter and political secretary to Major's successor as party leader, William Hague.
In 2001, Osborne was elected as MP for Tatton, becoming the youngest Conservative MP in the House of Commons. He was appointed Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury by Conservative leader Michael Howard in 2004. In 2005, he ran David Cameron's successful leadership campaign. Cameron appointed Osborne Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and, after the 2010 general election, Chancellor in the Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition government.

Speaking for the first time since he was sacked, George Osborne acknowledged he had to persuade the Government to push forward with his vision for a Northern Powerhouse after she took office. He dismissed the Government's "special share" in critical infrastructure amendment as window dressing, saying he had looked at the issue and thought the UK already had the powers and no extra caveats were needed.
Mrs May gave the go-ahead to the £18bn project on Thursday after a two-month pause to consider it, presenting the new agreement as having extra conditions to guarantee national security.
And Mr Osborne was lukewarm in his support for Mrs May's grammar school policy, saying "80% of the political discussion is about where 20% of the children should go".
He said the Government should continue to advance the academies programme to transform comprehensive schools that was a flagship of the Cameron administration.
He added: "I think the focus of education reform should be improving the education that the vast majority of children get."
But he said he wasn't against grammars opening in areas where they were needed, and where parents wanted them.

Mr Osborne said he would not be following Mr Cameron out of the door and he wanted to be where the important decisions were made.
Burnishing his centre-ground credentials, he said he wanted to represent the liberal voice of an international Britain and didn't want to see the country "governed from the extremes".
Chancellor Philip Hammond immediately hit back, tweeting that "all areas of the uk" would get support and not just the "Northern Powerhouse".
It came ahead of a speech in which Mr Osborne launched his Northern Powerhouse think-tank, insisting "the Northern Powerhouse is here to stay".
The move, effectively a re-launch of the project as well as a political fightback by Mr Osborne, comes amid doubts over the PM's enthusiasm for his plans for infrastructure investment and devolution to northern cities.
Speaking at the launch in Manchester, Mr Osborne said: "When I launched the idea of Northern Powerhouse I said I would work tirelessly with anyone and everyone to make it a reality.
"But even I have been taken aback by the huge support it's attracted, across political parties, businesses and communities.
"In the space of just two years, we've created powerful new mayors, committed to huge new transport and science projects, and attracted investment from around the world.
"There's a real excitement now in the North about what we can achieve if we work together. I don't want us to lose that."
He said his Northern Powerhouse Partnership was needed because the North could not rely on "decisions made in Whitehall" to "end the North/South divide", suggesting he still questioned the Prime Minister's commitment to the project.
Despite firing Mr Osborne, Mrs May has promised to press ahead with Mr Osborne's vision and has appointed a junior minister, right-wing Euro-sceptic MP Andrew Percy, as Northern Powerhouse minister.
