Kirby Bryan Dick (born August 23, 1952) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and editor. He is best known for directing documentary films. He received Academy Award nominations for Best Documentary Feature for directing Twist of Faith (2005) and The Invisible War (2012). He has also received numerous awards from film festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival and Los Angeles Film Festival.
Dick was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He studied at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, California Institute of the Arts, and the American Film Institute. His first documentary feature, Private Practices: The Story of a Sex Surrogate (1986), enjoyed a successful festival run.
Dick spent the following decade pursuing a variety of projects while working on Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997). Sick examined the life of performance artist Bob Flanagan, who utilized sadomasochism as a therapeutic device to help cope with cystic fibrosis and agreed to participate in documentary only if his eventual death was included. The film was an international festival hit, winning a Special Jury Prize at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival and helping to establish Dick's position in the world of independent filmmaking.
The Invisible may refer to:
The Invisible War is a 2012 documentary film written and directed by Kirby Dick and produced by Amy Ziering and Tanner King Barklow about sexual assault in the United States military. It premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the U.S. Documentary Audience Award. The film has been lauded by advocates, lawmakers, and journalists for its influence on government policies to reduce the prevalence of rape in the armed forces.
The Invisible War is the recipient of a Peabody Award and Emmy Awards for Best Documentary Feature and Outstanding Investigative Journalism. It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 85th Academy Awards.
In 2010, 108,121 veterans screened positive for military sexual trauma, and 68,379 had at least one Veterans Health Administration outpatient visit for related conditions. Also in 2010, The Department of Defense processed reports of 3,198 new assaults but estimated the actual number of assaults to be closer to 19,000. However, these reports only resulted in convictions against 244 perpetrators.
Hunting Ground may refer to:
The Hunting Ground is a documentary film about alleged incidents of rape on college campuses in the United States. Written and directed by Kirby Dick and produced by Amy Ziering, it premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film was released on February 27, 2015, an edited version aired on CNN on November 22, 2015, and was released on DVD the week of December 1, 2015. The documentary focuses on Andrea Pino and Annie E. Clark, two former University of North Carolina students who said that they were raped while enrolled in school and led a campaign to file a Title IX complaint against UNC.Lady Gaga recorded an original song, "Til It Happens to You", for the film. Critics of the film, including writer Emily Yoffe and a number of Harvard Law School professors, have questioned The Hunting Ground's accuracy and objectivity. Among the issues raised by critics are the film's portrayal of one man as a rapist, while not disclosing that the university and the police had found him not responsible for sexual assault he was accused of, and for use of controversial statistics. The filmmakers have actively defended their work, responding to most criticisms.

From Oscar- and Emmy-nominated director Kirby Dick and producer Amy Ziering, The Invisible War is a groundbreaking investigation into the cover-up of rape in the US military. Profoundly moving, the film follows the stories of several patriotic young servicewomen who were raped and then betrayed by their own officers when they courageously came forward to report. Both a rallying cry for the hundreds of thousands of men and women who've been assaulted and a hopeful road map for change, The Invisible War is one of those rare films so powerful it has already helped change military policy. Featuring Katie Couric, Amy Ziering, and Kirby Dick
Rape on college campuses is not only a serious problem, but the institutions to which parents entrust their kids have become more often a part of the problem than part of the solution. This is the central issue of the new documentary directed by Kirby Dick and produced by Amy Ziering, the team that also made The Invisible War. The duo talks to David Poland about the film and their findings. Shot in Los Angeles, February 2015 Subscribe to DP/30 for more interviews: http://bit.ly/17Xg4Y1

For gaming's most loved creator, Shigeru Miyamoto has kinda been a dick over the years, leaving a trail of angry developers in his wake. So this episode of Fact Hunt is dedicated to Shigsy's less than honourable escapades over time. For people asking for a source on the infamous DKC line, aside from the March 1995 interview of Electronic Games magazine it comes from, a second source is Steven L. Kent's "Ultimate History of Video Games" in one of his lengthy footnotes on page 518: "An interesting story lies behind Yoshi's Island. When Shigeru Miyamoto first demonstrated the game to Nintendo's marketing department, it was rejected because it had Mario-related graphics rather than the waxy, prerendered graphics of Donkey Kong Country. In a rare and refreshing reversal of roles, filmmakers put the powerful Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA for short) under the microscope for inspection in Academy Award-nominated director Kirby Dick's incisive look at stateside cinema's most notorious non-censoring censors. Compelled by the staggering amount of power that the MPAA ratings board wields, the filmmaker seeks out the true identities of the anonymous elite who control what films make it to the multiplex. He even goes so far as to hire a private investigator to stake out MPAA headquarters and expose Hollywood's best-kept secret. Along the way, Dick speaks with numerous filmmakers whose careers have been affected by the seemingly random and sexual-content obsessed judgments of the MPAA, including John Waters, Mary H...

Jonathan Kim (Huffington Post, the Uprising Show) interviews director Kirby Dick and producer Amy Ziering about their documentary about sexual assault in the military, THE INVISIBLE WAR. The film uses statistics from the Department of Defense and interviews with several women and a man who were sexually assaulted while serving, portraying a broken system where senior officers have too much discretion over whether assaults are investigated and victims are routinely ignored or persecuted when they come forward.
