This is a video I've wanted to do for ever and a day. I really hope I did not offend anyone with this video, I spoke directly from the heart. I also wanted to clarify that by saying dark skin ruined my life, I am referring to the things I've gone through because of it! Not my skin itself; I love my dark chocolate skin :) And I really hope it makes at least the tinniest difference in at least one of your lives. Love you all. Stay strong & beautiful - always.

Edit: I will get back to all comments, so don't worry If I don't respond instantly. You are all important.
I wasn't sure whether to upload this, because I love to focus on positives, but, I wanted to share a few of my experiences in the hope that one day colourism will end. After all, a human being is a human being. Differences such as skin hue should be celebrated. Although this is a 20 minute video there is so much more I could share. I still have the version I recorded last year which is 45 minutes long and more in depth. Instead of me uploading that, I will make a part 2 to this with advice, encouragement and how I did my best to overcome the racial abuse. I never felt the pressure to bleach my skin but I did feel the need to change myself in other ways from lack of acceptance. Struggling with Depression and Anxiety, mild or heavy isn't easy and I believe that was onset by these experiences. Once again I encourage you dark skin friends, please don't bleach your skin. Love it bit by bit until you are comfortable. No matter what people say, believe you are enough. I already believe, you are enough.

Both men and women are experiencing this problem nowadays and there’s nothing good about it. There are many reasons and factors that are causing this type of health problem, such as: the aging process, sun exposure, pigmentation problem, etc. Well, this is what really happens – the skin around the elbows and knees is thicker and it has large number of folds. Dark skin
Dark skin is a naturally occurring human skin color rich in eumelanin pigments and having a dark colour. People with relatively dark skin are referred to as brown, and those with very dark skin are often referred to as black, although this usage can be ambiguous in some countries where it is also used to specifically refer to different ethnic groups or populations.
Evolution of dark skin pigmentation began around 1.2 million years ago in light-skinned early hominid species after they moved from the equatorial rainforest to the sunny savannas. In the heat of the savannas, better cooling mechanisms were required, which were achieved by the loss of body hair and development of more efficient perspiration. The loss of body hair led to the development of dark skin pigmentation, which acted as a mechanism of natural selection against folate depletion, and to a lesser extent, DNA damage. The primary factor contributing to the evolution of dark skin pigmentation was the breakdown of folate in reaction to ultraviolet radiation; the relationship between folate breakdown induced by ultraviolet radiation and reduced fitness as a failure of normal embryogenesis and spermatogenesis led to the selection of dark skin pigmentation. By the time modern Homo sapiens evolved, all humans were dark-skinned.

Skin
Skin is the soft outer covering of vertebrates. Other animal coverings such as the arthropod exoskeleton have different developmental origin, structure and chemical composition. The adjective cutaneous means "of the skin" (from Latin cutis, skin). In mammals, the skin is an organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of ectodermal tissue, and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. Skin of a different nature exists in amphibians, reptiles, and birds. All mammals have some hair on their skin, even marine mammals like whales, dolphins, and porpoises which appear to be hairless. The skin interfaces with the environment and is the first line of defense from external factors. For example, the skin plays a key role in protecting the body against pathogens and excessive water loss. Its other functions are insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, and the production of vitamin D folates. Severely damaged skin may heal by forming scar tissue. This is sometimes discoloured and depigmented. The thickness of skin also varies from location to location on an organism. In humans for example, the skin located under the eyes and around the eyelids is the thinnest skin in the body at 0.5 mm thick, and is one of the first areas to show signs of aging such as "crows feet" and wrinkles. The skin on the palms and the soles of the feet is 4 mm thick and the back is 14 mm thick and is the thickest skin in the body. The speed and quality of wound healing in skin is promoted by the reception of estrogen.
