In the Life
In the Life was a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) television newsmagazine, broadcast on PBS and produced by In The Life Media. It was created in 1991 by the Emmy Award-winning producer John Scagliotti. Premiering on June 9, 1992, it was the longest running LGBT television program in history.
In September 2012, In The Life Media announced that the December 2012 broadcast would be the last. ITLM said it would work with other organizations to create a web-based archive of historical videos documenting the LGBT rights movement, enhancing the organization's online presence and hopefully broadening its reach.
Hosts
The series was regularly commentated by Harvey Fierstein from 2001 to 2004. Past hosts of the show include Kate Clinton and Katherine Linton. Guest hosts for the series have included Cherry Jones, Paris Barclay, Janeane Garofalo, Lesley Gore, Lea DeLaria, Madonna, Jade Esteban Estrada, Nathan Lane, Howard Dean, Gavin Newsom, Helen Thomas, Nancy Grace, RuPaul, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Herman, Carol Channing, Larry Kramer, Barbara Gittings, Lillian Faderman, Judy Shepard, Susan Sarandon, Billie-Jean King, Lily Tomlin, Melissa Etheridge, Esera Tuaolo, Martina Navratilova, Judith Light, Margaret Cho, Le Tigre, Lady Bunny, Wilson Cruz, Alan Cumming, Bill Brochtrup, Staceyann Chin and Lisa Leslie. Historians often call Los Angeles the cradle of the American gay movement. In 1950, years before anywhere else in the country, Los Angeles gave birth to the first gay organization in the United States, the Mattachine Society, and continued to lead the charge towards national gay liberation with the publishing of ONE Magazine. On June 28, 1969, the "Big Bang" occurred in New York City with the Stonewall Rebellion -- three days and nights of rioting, when gay people, for the first time, militantly fought back against their oppression. Stonewall's ripples went out over the entire country, pressing forward the history-changing Gay Liberation Movement. Historians often call Los Angeles the cradle of the American gay movement. In 1950, years before anywhere else in the country, Los Angeles gave birth to the first gay organization in the United States, the Mattachine Society, and continued to lead the charge towards national gay liberation with the publishing of ONE Magazine. On June 28, 1969, the "Big Bang" occurred in New York City with the Stonewall Rebellion -- three days and nights of rioting, when gay people, for the first time, militantly fought back against their oppression. Stonewall's ripples went out over the entire country, pressing forward the history-changing Gay Liberation Movement.
Honoring the need to preserve this history, a tour was led on July 12, 2014 of the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries -- the largest LGBTQ archive in the world. The tour was followed by a discussion of pre-Stonewall Los Angeles activism with Jeanne Córdova and Troy Perry -- two LGBT pioneers who were in the middle of it all. This rare, intercollegiate event was moderated by USC Professor of Gender Studies Christopher Freeman and was organized by The University of Chicago LGBT Alumni Network.

A personality, a creative director, a political commentator, a military brat, Drexel has had his hands in all different kinds of outlets. Having been a member of both College Republicans and College Democrats at North Carolina State University, Drexel's knowledge of how the government works, his keen sense of domestic and international policy, coupled with his love for Washington news, has made him a leading voice in a generation.
Over the years, Drexel has worked to get both Democrats and Republicans elected having helped elect both North Carolina Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr, as well as the campaigns for both President Obama and President Bush. After the 2008 election, Drexel relocated to New York expanding his expertise in the entertainment community, becoming one of the most sought out creative directors in the Broadway and the LGBT community. From spending two years working with the Point Foundation Honors, celebrating the year's LGBT Point Scholarship recipients and celebrity honorees, Drexel had the opportunity to work closely with the likes of Judith Light, Angela Lansbury, Kelly Ripa, Silvio Horto, Andy Cohen and more. In 2010, Drexel took over the creative reigns of several annual Broadway benefits, primarily focused on the Ali Forney Center and the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. Bringing together community leaders and Tony-winning Broadway performers over the next couple of years, Drexel was able to elevate the quality of charitable benefits and raise awareness for areas of importance.
Drexel currently represents the 39th District as a Delegate to the California Democratic Party, and is a member of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, Stonewall Democrats, San Fernando Valley Young Democrats, and the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. He is the moderator and host for AfterBuzzTV/Black Hollywood Live's Political Culture, a frequent guest on ABTV's The Drumpf Report, and several other shows. He spends his time facebook, tweeting and instagramming hot button issues to over 4000 followers (and growing), as well as keeping up with lots of television and news. Lawrence "Larry" Bagley, R-Stonewall, House Bill 597 calls for requiring only commercial and student transportation vehicles to bear the stickers, eliminating most kinds of cars in the state from the current rule ...
