Jean Grae (born Tsidi Ibrahim, November 26, 1976), formerly known as What? What?, is an American hip hop recording artist from Brooklyn, New York City. She rose to prominence in the underground hip hop scene in New York City and has since built an international fanbase.
Jean Grae was born Tsidi Ibrahim, in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 26, 1976. The daughter of South African jazz musicians Sathima Bea Benjamin and Abdullah Ibrahim, she was raised in New York City, where her parents relocated after her birth. She studied Vocal Performance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, before majoring in Music Business at New York University. She dropped out after three weeks of class.
In 1995, she was discovered by George Rithm Martinez, when he recruited her for a five-song demo under the name of his group, Ground Zero. Their demo was critically acclaimed and earned the duo "Unsigned Hype" honors in The Source in March 1996. She later joined a hip hop group called Natural Resource, along with fellow rapper Ocean and disc jockey James "AGGIE" Barrett. In 1996, they released a pair of 12-inch singles called "Negro League Baseball" b/w "Bum Deal" b/w "They Lied", and "Bum Deal (remix)" b/w "They Lied (remix)" b/w "I Love This World", on their own label, Makin' Records. She also appeared on singles by fellow Makin' Records artists Pumpkinhead and Bad Seed, as well as on the O.B.S. (Original Blunted Soldiers) double 12-inch single alongside crew members Pumpkinhead, Bad Seed and Meat-pie, and produced much of the material released on the label under the pseudonym Run Run Shaw. During this period she established strong ties with the Brooklyn Academy crew, with which she would appear throughout her career.
"What What (In the Butt)" is a viral video created by Andrew Swant and Bobby Ciraldo for the song of the same name by Samwell. It is known for its numerous camp references to homosexuality and anal sex. The lyrics of the song, a production of Mike Stasny, mostly revolve around the title. The video was made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and uploaded on Valentine's Day 2007 to YouTube. As of June 2015, the video had over 58 million views.
With regard to the Christian imagery in the video, Samwell said, in an interview with KROQ-FM, that the opening image is "not a cross, but a flaming symbol that [he] just happened to use," but according to Stasny, "[Samwell] wanted it because he's a Christian but he doesn't do Christian morality. For him, having a burning cross is a way to pay respect to his beliefs." The video also parodies the flower petal scene from the movie American Beauty. Brownmark Films released an interview with Samwell on April 8, 2007, in which he discussed the public reception of the song at length.
Jean Grae's "Kill Screen" saga continues. Having whipped up a frenzy with the song itself and the mysterious video trailer, she's now released the full-length flick for the Gotham Down bonus cut. Shot, directed and edited by Ms. Greasy herself, it's a suitably noir and witty accompaniment to the track that features a bloody Grae and a host of subliminal images. Grae herself calls the video "an Easter egg hunt," adding that "there are single-frame clues and messages and extra videos hidden within the video." Jean Grae Says… "Glamour photo shoots from the 1980s. They’re beautiful. They’re soft. They’re expressive. People have the best shots and expressions. Not to mention- props. Not to mention backdrops. Yet, I have mentioned them. When we came up with the album title, I started thinking about what kind of photos best expressed that statement. It was instantly the awkward, temporary confident smile of an 80s glamour shot. What could make that even more awkward? Holding that pose for a very long time. It’s a metaphor for the sociopolitical state of our global community. Just kidding. It’s commentary on the...

Chorus:repeat 3x
All my ladies say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
And all my dogs say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
[Bizarre]
Ladies and gentlemen may I grab your attention
Its the dopest MC from the Midwest
Did I mention
So clap your hands and stomp your feet
And party on down to the Bizarre Kid beat
Throw your hands in the air so I can feel it
It's the big guy rappin with the idiotic literatein
Forget your small talk watch Bizarre Kid get wild
Guarantee to get your girl warm like a reptile
Big chubby guy comin straight from 7 mile
Your girl heard my style
And said, "ooh he's foul"
So tell your man to stop trippin bro
Or he gonna get rushed by 10 guys he don't even know
Representin the men, moneys what I'm gettin
[] still gigglin bush [ ] , my styles forbidden
It's the big guy, do the butterfly to the ground
And the base head bounce
Man I got that packed down
Man forget the night
We gonna party till the day
And I'm a strip dance at your girlfriend's cabaret
Chorus:repeat 3x
All my ladies say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
And all my dogs say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
[Bizarre]
Does Bizarre roll with Slim Shady, Yeah yeah
Quick to drive up in your Mercedes, Yeah yeah
Datin ladies nearly 80, Yeah yeah
Now who in this rap game could fade me
Some of you rap guys never heard of me
Sometimes I be in Dallas or even North New Jersey
Forget the Moet we drinkin Hen dog all night
And pass the dance so I can get high as a kite
A slow song come on it's time to dirty dance
And right now I'm grabbin any girl I can
Grab her butt cheeks and hold her real tight
And tell her me and you were gettin wild for tonight
Gimme your beeper number and check before you leave
"Ay yo call me tomorrow and ask for Steve"
Oh no this shit I couldn't believe
Me and ??? grabbed her by her knees
Snatched outta her weave
And grabbed the car keys
Chorus:repeat 2x
All my ladies say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
And all my dogs say WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT
[Kon Artist]
Now everybody throw they hands up
This ain't a stick
We came to this jam
To buy ??? and play a game of pick up
With any big butt freaks that's done for the cause
And yo Bizarre was at the bar down ???
[Kuniva]
I'm still game spittin while you still get in
Still gettin down how we livin
Wild like we outta prison
Run our mouth, kick in doors
And I'm talkin to a chicken head that could be yours
[Kon Artist]
Slam dancin with girls just to see they chest bump
Now everybody bu bu bum bump bump
And get down to the sounds that we can cock jump
Or mess around and get your whole damn block jumped
[Kuniva]
Watch you beeper when I'm walking through the crowd
Which one of y'all actin wild, getting loud
You still screamin that somebody still hatin on you
We in the parkin lot 50 deep waitin on you
