Park ward is a ward of Wolverhampton City Council, West Midlands. It is located to the west of the city centre, and covers parts of the suburbs Bradmore, Compton, Finchfield, Merridale, Newbridge and Whitmore Reans. It borders the St Peter's, Graiseley, Merry Hill, Tettenhall Wightwick and Tettenhall Regis wards. It forms part of the Wolverhampton South West constituency.
Its name comes from the fact that two of the city's main parks, West Park and Bantock Park, lie within its boundaries. The ward also contains the Chapel Ash conservation area and also the Parkdale conservation area. Some other interesting architecture can be seen within the ward, particularly on the Tettenhall Road, such as first Mayor of Wolverhampton, George Thorneycroft's House. Two of the city's main thoroughfares are contained largely within the ward, namely the A41 Tettenhall Road and the Compton Road (A454. The Halfway House on Tettenhall Road was formerly a coaching house on the London to Holyhead route and as the name suggests, was the half way point. It was a pub for many years but is currently (2009) closed and for sale.
Park is the name of an independent comedy-drama film released in 2007. It was produced by Dana Jackson and directed by Kurt Voelker.
The story revolves around a Los Angeles park, where ten colorful characters encounter love - and loss - in the course of one day.
It received the Audience Award at the 8th Annual CineVegas Festival where it was premiered in June 2006. After a limited theatrical run in 2007, it was released on DVD on May 20, 2008.
Park is an electoral ward of the Borough of Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. It is the far eastern ward and is bordered to its west by Abbey and Redlands wards. On the north, east and south it is bordered by the civil parish of Earley in the Borough of Wokingham.
As with all wards, apart from smaller Mapledurham, it elects three councillors to Reading Borough Council. Elections since 2004 are held by thirds, with elections in three years out of four.
In the 2011, 2012 and 2014 a Green Party candidate won each election.
Eirene (/aɪˈriːni/; Greek: Εἰρήνη, Eirēnē, [eːrɛ́ːnɛː], lit. "Peace"), more commonly known in English as Peace, was one of the Horae, the personification of peace. She was depicted in art as a beautiful young woman carrying a cornucopia, sceptre, and a torch or rhyton. She is said sometimes to be the daughter of Zeus and Themis. Her Roman equivalent was Pax.
She was particularly well regarded by the citizens of Athens. After a naval victory over Sparta in 375 BC, the Athenians established a cult for Peace, erecting altars to her. They held an annual state sacrifice to her after 371 BC to commemorate the Common Peace of that year and set up a votive statue in her honour in the Agora of Athens. The statue was executed in bronze by Cephisodotus the Elder, likely the father or uncle of the famous sculptor Praxiteles. It was acclaimed by the Athenians, who depicted it on vases and coins.
Although the statue is now lost, it was copied in marble by the Romans; one of the best surviving copies (right) is in the Munich Glyptothek. It depicts the goddess carrying a child with her left arm – Pluto, the god of plenty and son of Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. Peace's missing right hand once held a sceptre. She is shown gazing maternally at Pluto, who is looking back at her trustingly. The statue is an allegory for Plenty (i.e., Pluto) prospering under the protection of Peace; it constituted a public appeal to good sense. The copy in the Glyptothek was originally in the collection of the Villa Albani in Rome but was looted and taken to France by Napoleon I. Following Napoleon's fall, the statue was bought by Ludwig I of Bavaria.
Irene was a sternwheel steamboat of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet and was active in the early 1900s.
Irene was assigned to routes on southern Puget Sound, including runs out of the state capital Olympia, Washington. Other vessels running at the same time and on similar routes included the sternwheelers Capital City and City of Shelton, and the small propeller driven vessels Prince, Blue Star, and Sophie.
Irene (Ειρήνη Eirene), sometimes written Irini, is derived from εἰρήνη - the Greek for "peace". Eirene was the Greek goddess of peace. Irene was also the name of an 8th-century Byzantine empress (Irene of Athens), as well as the name of several saints (see Agape, Chionia, and Irene).
Irene was the sixth most popular name for girls in Spain in 2006. It was the 632nd most popular name for girls in the United States in 2007, down from 592nd place in 2006.
