Adding a back-up camera system can be easy installed on any vehicle that has a headunit or monitor with an RCA video input, and the installation process is easy enough to be a weekend DIY project if you have the proper tools.

So my wife bough be a very nice birthday present this year, a wireless backup camera for my truck.
She bought it at Costco, brand name is YADA, and it was cheap....like $100 or so, so I was not holding my breath as for the quality of the camera.
The installation was sure fast and easy to do, anyone should be able to install this backup camera.
So, I made this quick video showing you how I hooked it up to the backup lights and how I attached it to my dashboard inside the vehicle.

The easiest way to understand how a standard backup camera system is installed is by understanding the components. Most back up cameras and systems have similar components. This particular guide is designated for backup camera systems with trigger wires. A backup camera system can be broken down into five basic components:
1) Monitor
2) Monitor cable
3) Back up camera
4) Camera power cord
5) RCA video cable

Did you recently buy a reverse camera and not sure what red power wire to use? Did you get an RCA cable with a little red wire on both ends? Not quite sure what to make of the terrible instructions? (read more below)
The red and black wire that are together are supposed to be connected to the white rear reverse light bulb. If they were connected anywhere else, they would either be on all of the time, or not when you need them to be. You could connect them to say a cigarette lighter that is only on when the car is on, but then you run into the next issue.
Most headunits don't have a button to click when you're in reverse. If yours has video inputs, then stop. You could use an input as the reverse camera, but keep in mind that you have select this input..kind of annoying. For everyone else, your has a special 12v turn on wire. When this one particular wire gets 12 volts, it tells the headunit to now switch to the yellow rca video. It is the small wire connected to that yellow rca that is to be used for that 12 v turn on.

I also added in some extra wire, tape and other materials that cost about $10. This was a fairly easy afternoon project to work on. I hope you find this video informative and useful. A backup camera is a special type of video camera that is produced specifically for the purpose of being attached to the rear of a vehicle to aid in backing up. Backup cameras are alternatively known as 'reversing cameras' or 'rear view cameras'.
The design of a backup camera is distinct from other cameras in that the image is horizontally flipped so that the output is a mirror image. This is necessary because the camera and the driver face opposite directions, and without it, the camera's right would be on the driver's left and vice versa. A mirrored image makes the orientation of the display consistent with the physical mirrors installed on the vehicle. A backup camera typically sports a wide-angle or fisheye lens. While such a lens spoils the camera's ability to see faraway objects, it allows the camera to see an uninterrupted horizontal path from one rear corner to the other. The camera is typically pointed on a downward angle, to view potential obstacles on the ground as well as the position of approaching walls and docks, rather than straight back.

The view camera is a type of camera first developed in the era of the daguerreotype (1840s-'50s) and still in use today, though with many refinements. It comprises a flexible bellows which forms a light-tight seal between two adjustable standards, one of which holds a lens, and the other a viewfinder or a photographic film holder.
The bellows is a flexible, accordion-pleated box, which encloses the space between the lens and film, and has the ability to flex to accommodate the movements of the standards.
The front standard is a board at the front of the camera which holds the lens and, usually, a shutter.
At the other end of the bellows, the rear standard is a frame which holds a ground glass, used for focusing and composing the image before exposure, which is replaced by a holder containing the light-sensitive film, plate, or image sensor for exposure. The front and rear standards can move in various ways relative to each other, unlike most other types of camera, giving control over focus, depth of field and perspective.

Adding a back-up camera system can be easy installed on any vehicle that has a headunit or monitor with an RCA video input, and the installation process is easy enough to be a weekend DIY project if you have the proper tools.

So my wife bough be a very nice birthday present this year, a wireless backup camera for my truck.
She bought it at Costco, brand name is YADA, and it was cheap....like $100 or so, so I was not holding my breath as for the quality of the camera.
The installation was sure fast and easy to do, anyone should be able to install this backup camera.
So, I made this quick video showing you how I hooked it up to the backup lights and how I attached it to my dashboard inside the vehicle.

Did you recently buy a reverse camera and not sure what red power wire to use? Did you get an RCA cable with a little red wire on both ends? Not quite sure what to make of the terrible instructions? (read more below)
The red and black wire that are together are supposed to be connected to the white rear reverse light bulb. If they were connected anywhere else, they would either be on all of the time, or not when you need them to be. You could connect them to say a cigarette lighter that is only on when the car is on, but then you run into the next issue.
Most headunits don't have a button to click when you're in reverse. If yours has video inputs, then stop. You could use an input as the reverse camera, but keep in mind that you have select this input..kind of annoying. For everyone else, your has a special 12v turn on wire. When this one particular wire gets 12 volts, it tells the headunit to now switch to the yellow rca video. It is the small wire connected to that yellow rca that is to be used for that 12 v turn on.
