Léo Santa Cruz

Léodegario Santa Cruz (born August 10, 1988), best known as Léo Santa Cruz, is a Mexican professional boxer. Currently undefeated, he is a former IBF bantamweight and WBC super bantamweight champion, and the current WBA (Super) featherweight champion. He is also a three-division world champion.

Amateur career

Leodegario had an amateur record of 148-7 and at only fifteen years old he won a gold medal at the World Amateur Championships. Leo Santa Cruz resides in La Habra, CA

Professional career

On October 21, 2010 Santa Cruz beat the veteran James Owens at the Martin's Valley Mansion in Cockeysville, Maryland.

In March 2011, Santa Cruz knocked out the veteran Stephane Jamoye to win the vacant WBC Youth World Bantamweight Championship.

IBF Bantamweight Championship

On June 2, 2012 Santa Cruz beat Africa's Vusi Malinga to win the IBF World Bantamweight Championship. This bout was televised on a Showtime boxing card. After winning the IBF World Bantamweight belt, Santa Cruz defended his title against Morel, Zaleta and Guevara to finish 2012 with 5 wins including 3 title defenses. His last bout versus Guevara returned boxing to CBS after a 15-year absence.

Carl Frampton

Carl Frampton MBE (born 21 February 1987) is a professional boxer and the current IBF super bantamweight champion. He is managed by former world champion and Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Barry McGuigan.

Amateur career

Amateur boxing in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland is governed by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association. As an amateur, Frampton fought out of the Midland Boxing Club in Tiger's Bay and won the Irish senior flyweight title in 2005 and added the Irish featherweight title in 2009, beating David Oliver Joyce in the final.

He also claimed a silver medal at the 2007 European Union Amateur Boxing Championships in Dublin, losing to France's Khedafi Djelkhir in the final. Frampton is one of Ireland's most successful amateur boxers of recent years, winning over 100 of his fights and losing only 8 times.

Later commenting on his decision to box for the Irish team, Frampton, who grew up in a Unionist area of Belfast, said "I get asked all the time, 'would you have liked to have boxed for Great Britain?' And the answer is 'no'. I was looked after by Irish boxing from pretty much 11 years old and was very proud to box for Ireland." He added, "it's very humbling to know that so many people are supporting me from all over Ireland and mainland UK."

Abner Mares

Abner Mares Martínez (born November 28, 1985) is a Mexican professional boxer who has won world championships in three weight divisions, having held the IBF bantamweight, WBC super bantamweight and WBC featherweight titles. As an amateur, he medaled many times in international tournaments while competing for Mexico. Mares grew up in the city of Hawaiian Gardens, California and holds dual citizenship with the United States and Mexico.

Early life

Mares was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and at age seven his family moved to the city of Hawaiian Gardens, California. At age fifteen he was sent back to Mexico by his father.

Amateur career

As an amateur, Mares compiled a record of 112-8 with 84 KOs. Mares won the U17 World Championships and the bantamweight gold medal at the Central American games 2002 beating Juan Manuel López and the silver medal in the same division in 2003 at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. At the Junior World Championships 2004, he finished second losing to Aibek Abdimomunov. He participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native country. There he was beaten in the first round of the Bantamweight (54 kg) division by Hungary's Zsolt Bedák in a highly controversial decision.
