Here is my footage of a very rare event in the mainline steam world where we see two steam tours without diesel involvement attacking the climb up Shap simultaneously on Saturday 30th May 2015. We first see Jubilee Class 45699 'Galatea' attacking the climb pulling 'The Cumbrian Coast Express' and then in the same frame we see Britannia Class 70000 'Britannia' closely following and awaiting the signals to clear for her attack on the summit.

After a massive long major rebuild 60103 Flying Scotsman was at the helm for the Railway Touring companies latest Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express . This would be her first run Northbound over Shap since 1969 and we see 60103 near Shap summit with 11 on the hook plus a class 47 . The return over the S&C; sees 60103 as she is about to cross over to work wrong line near Howe & Co signalbox and finally a very wet Birkett Common . Apologies for my hand getting in the 1st shot near the end as I was trying to keep the rain off the lens .

70013 Oliver Cromwell hauled the 4th Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from Carnforth to Carlisle over Shap bank and retuning over the Settle and Carlisle line later that afternoon .The Brit is first seen attacking the 1 in 75 climb past Scout Green and then on towards Salterwath . The return sees 70013 at Birkett Common in darkish conditions but at least it was dry .There is a clown at Scout Green crouched down on the track next to the signs on the line with his still camera . Thanks to Stu for updates and Phil for letting me use his USB lead . Perhaps in reflection I should have not let the coaches run past in the Scout Green shots .Best watched in HD

This is a collection of shots covering the climb from Oxenholme to Shap over the gradients that reach 1 in 75 on Shap bank . Locos seen are 46115 Scots Guardsman , 6201 Princess Elizabeth, 46233 Duchess of Sutherland , 44871, 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier, 34067 Tangmere , 70013 Oliver Cromwell , 60009 Union of South Africa and 45699 Galatea at various location on the climb . Thanks to Austin for the title name . I put three clips at the end near the summit as I couldn't make up my mind .Best watched in 1080 hd if possible .

Saturday 30th May 2015, would see an incredible & rare sight, which wouldn't have been witnessed since the, 1960's. Two mainline steam tours, were due to climb the notorious, Shap Bank.
The scheduled timings suggested there was less than seven minutes, between the two trains, meaning as soon as, 45699, reached the summit, 70000 Britannia, would be hitting the bottom of the bank. What transpired in the end, was the, Jubilee Class, struggling up the bank, with one or two many coaches, which caused, Galatea, to slog it's way up to the summit, while the inpatient, Britannia, was now within one mile, of the, Cumbrian Coast Tour, while slowing down to walking pace to avoid stopping for red lights.
The main reason for the trip was to follow, Britannia, on the, Cumbrian Fells Express, which was running from, Crewe to Appleby, and back to, Crewe. The fact we managed to capture, Galatea, on this trip was a bonus. We captured the, Brit Class, five times yesterday, starting off at, Hartford, where the, Standard 7, let's rip through the station. The next scene features the two tours on, Shap. This is then followed by a shot at, Langwathby, as, 70000, sweeps round the reverse curves, on approach to the station, which we also feature. For the return trip we chose, Birkitt Common, where, Britannia, is seen twice from different angles. To finish off the day, we headed over to, Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, where the, Brit, is seen pounding over, Wilpshire Bank.
Another great trip up North, and great to see, Britannia, back to her best. I hope you enjoy the video.

LMS 46233 The Duchess of Sutherland was at the helm of 2nd Railway Touring Companies railtour " The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express " from London Euston to Carlisle via Shap summit and back again over the Settle and Carlisle line . The tour started with two class 47's ( 47237 & 47746 ) taking the train to Carnforth with 46233 taking over from there .The first shot sees the 46233 attacking the 1 in 75 gradient at a very snowy scenic Shap Wells with driver Peter Kirk on the regulator. The return would see a snowy Birkett Common as 46233 attacks the climb towards Aisgill summit . I decided to do Birkett again as with the snow being around and it's not often the Duchess is out in the snow at this time of year .Not my best pan at Shap wells so sorry for any wobbles .

Shap is a linear village and civil parish located among fells and isolated dales in Eden district, Cumbria, England. The village lies along the A6 road and the West Coast Main Line, and is near to the M6 motorway. It is situated 10 miles (16 km) from Penrith and about 15 miles (24 km) from Kendal, in the historic county of Westmorland.
Etymology
Early (12th- and 13th-century) forms such as Hep and Yheppe point to an Old Norse rendering Hjáp of an Old English original Hēap = "heap", (of stones), perhaps referring to an ancient stone circle, cairn, or to the Shap Stone Avenue just to the west of the village.
Description
The village has three pubs, a small supermarket, a fish and chip shop, an antique book shop, a butcher's shop, a primary school, a newsagent's, a coffee shop, a ceramic art studio called Edge Ceramics, a fire station, a shoe shop (New Balance factory shop) an Anglican church and 3 B&B/ Hostels. There is also a small library, this is in the process of being relinquished from local council control and being adopted by the community as part of a budget cutting measure.

Tech N9ne
Aaron Dontez Yates (born November 8, 1971), better known by his stage name Tech N9ne (pronounced Tech Nine), is an American rapper. In 1999, Yates and business partner Travis O'Guin founded the record label Strange Music. He has sold over two million albums and has had his music featured in film, television, and video games. In 2009, he won the Left Field Woodie award at the mtvU Woodie Awards.
His stage name originated from the TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun, a name given to him by rapper Black Walt due to his fast-rhyming Chopper style. Yates later applied a deeper meaning to the name, claiming that it stands for the complete technique of rhyme, with "tech" meaning technique and "nine" representing the number of completion.
Early life
In 1971, Yates was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He began rapping at a very early age, and would rap the letters of his name in order to remember how to spell it. He never met his father, and his mother suffered from epilepsy and lupus when he was a child, which emotionally affected him and inspired him to "search for God". He would explore abandoned buildings with his best friend, hoping to catch a ghost on film. He attended Southwest High School in Kansas City.

Saturday 30th May 2015, would see an incredible & rare sight, which wouldn't have been witnessed since the, 1960's. Two mainline steam tours, were due to climb the notorious, Shap Bank. The scheduled timings suggested there was less than seven minutes, between the two trains, meaning as soon as, 45699, reached the summit, 70000 Britannia, would be hitting the bottom of the bank. What transpired in the end, was the, Jubilee Class, struggling up the bank, with one or two many coaches, which caused, Galatea, to slog it's way up to the summit, while the inpatient, Britannia, was now within one mile, of the, Cumbrian Coast Tour, while slowing down to walking pace to avoid stopping for red lights. LMS 46233 battles over Shap in the snow on the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express 31/1/15.
LMS 46233 The Duchess of Sutherland was at the helm of 2nd Railway Touring Companies railtour " The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express " from London Euston to Carlisle via Shap summit and back again over the Settle and Carlisle line . The tour started with two class 47's ( 47237 & 47746 ) taking the train to Carnforth with 46233 taking over from there .The first shot sees the 46233 attacking the 1 in 75 gradient at a very snowy scenic Shap Wells with driver Peter Kirk on the regulator. The return would see a snowy Birkett Common as 46233 attacks the climb towards Aisgill summit . I decided to do Birkett again as with the snow being around and it's not often the Duchess is out in the snow at this time of year .Not my best pan at Shap wells so sorry for any wobbles .

Here is my footage of a very rare event in the mainline steam world where we see two steam tours without diesel involvement attacking the climb up Shap simultaneously on Saturday 30th May 2015. We first see Jubilee Class 45699 'Galatea' attacking the climb pulling 'The Cumbrian Coast Express' and then in the same frame we see Britannia Class 70000 'Britannia' closely following and awaiting the signals to clear for her attack on the summit.

Saturday 30th May 2015, would see an incredible & rare sight, which wouldn't have been witnessed since the, 1960's. Two mainline steam tours, were due to climb the notorious, Shap Bank.
The scheduled timings suggested there was less than seven minutes, between the two trains, meaning as soon as, 45699, reached the summit, 70000 Britannia, would be hitting the bottom of the bank. What transpired in the end, was the, Jubilee Class, struggling up the bank, with one or two many coaches, which caused, Galatea, to slog it's way up to the summit, while the inpatient, Britannia, was now within one mile, of the, Cumbrian Coast Tour, while slowing down to walking pace to avoid stopping for red lights.
The main reason for the trip was to follow, Britannia, on the, Cumbrian Fells Express, which was running from, Crewe to Appleby, and back to, Crewe. The fact we managed to capture, Galatea, on this trip was a bonus. We captured the, Brit Class, five times yesterday, starting off at, Hartford, where the, Standard 7, let's rip through the station. The next scene features the two tours on, Shap. This is then followed by a shot at, Langwathby, as, 70000, sweeps round the reverse curves, on approach to the station, which we also feature. For the return trip we chose, Birkitt Common, where, Britannia, is seen twice from different angles. To finish off the day, we headed over to, Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, where the, Brit, is seen pounding over, Wilpshire Bank.
Another great trip up North, and great to see, Britannia, back to her best. I hope you enjoy the video.

Lake District Country Walk Shap Abbey from Rosgill via Keld round
The adapted version of Alfred Wainwright's "A Pennine Journey" was edited by David Pitt of Rosgill whom we met on this walk. Our video is a guided walk in the Lake District, Cumbria. Starting from the bridge just south-west of Rosgill near Shap we walk to the lovely hamlet of Keld and after passing the Chapel of Keld we continue on to Shap Abbey. We return to Rosgill following the River Lowther. This is an easy walk on good paths and tracks mostly grassy through fields. There is also some minor no-through road between Tailbert and Keld. Elevation: approx lowest point 191.60m (628.61ft) approx highest point 290.90m (954.40ft) Approx 5.15 miles allow 2½ plus extra time for visiting Shap Abbey using OS Explorer Map OL5 The English Lakes North Eastern area. Shap Abbey, Cumbria, UK - 3rd September, 2013
Shap Abbey was a monastic religious house of the Premonstratensian order on the western bank of the River Lowther in the civil parish of Shap Rural, around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the village of Shap, in the Eden District of Cumbria, England. The site is in the care of English Heritage and managed on its behalf by the Lake District National Park. While staying near Shap for the week, we ventured down to Shap Abbey, now a ruin, but a fairly impressive one at that. This video features footage of the abbey ruins as well as the surrounding countryside, including the River Lowther, chickens in a large coup, and luscious green fields. Shap Abbey was a monastic religious house of the Premonstratensian order on the western bank of the River Lowther in the civil parish of Shap Rural, around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the village of Shap, in the Eden District of Cumbria, England. The site is in the care of English Heritage and managed on its behalf by the Lake District National Park.
