Sonic Boom Six
Sonic Boom Six (often shortened to SB6) are a five-piece band from Manchester, United Kingdom. Their eclectic sound combines different elements of several genres and has been described by Kerrang! as "taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid". Their lyrics tend to focus on social commentary with a live show known for "clashing activism and good times". The band's influences include Bad Brains, Public Enemy, The Fugees, The Specials, The Streets, and The Clash.
Career
Sonic Boom Six first appeared on the Manchester punk scene in April 2002. Some of their members were previously in the band Grimace. Their self-titled demo, recorded with Jerry Melchers, was self-released in October 2002. To promote the CD, they toured the UK with third wave ska veterans The Toasters and London ska punk/hip hop band King Prawn. They also toured with Coolie Ranx and performed as his backing band. In September 2003, they released The Turbo EP, their first release for Moon Ska Europe. This was produced by Ace (of Skunk Anansie) and Christophe. After a series of good reviews, Sonic Boom Six were invited to perform a session on BBC Radio One's The Lock Up.

This week Tom & Zeus review the 2009 KISS album, "Sonic Boom." This was KISS' 19th studio album and the 20th KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Sonic Boom was the first studio album by KISS in 11 years. It was the first to feature the current KISS lineup of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer & Tommy Thayer. The album was produced by Paul Stanley and Greg Collins. The band wanted to show that they can "still knock out anybody who's out there." The album had no outside writes and both Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer had their first lead vocals on a KISS song on Sonic Boom. They played some on these songs on tour for the album and "Say Yeah" is still played today on the End Of The Road Tour. Sonic Boom Six's version of The Streets' 'Let's Push Things Forward' is The Boom's homage to the influence that Mike Skinner had on the band, both from a musical and lyrical standpoint. Unveiled on SB6's headline album tour, the track was met with an ecstatic response from the crowds so Sonic Boom Six took the opportunity to record the song in the studio as a B-Side for their 'Keep On Believing' single. 'Keep on Believing' is released as a digital download through Xtra Mile Recordings. Tracklisting is as follows:

This week Tom & Zeus review the 2009 KISS album, "Sonic Boom." This was KISS' 19th studio album and the 20th KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL.
Sonic Boom was the first studio album by KISS in 11 years. It was the first to feature the current KISS lineup of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer & Tommy Thayer. The album was produced by Paul Stanley and Greg Collins.
The band wanted to show that they can "still knock out anybody who's out there." The album had no outside writes and both Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer had their first lead vocals on a KISS song on Sonic Boom. They played some on these songs on tour for the album and "Say Yeah" is still played today on the End Of The Road Tour.
The album cover was from Michael Doret, who previously created the cover to KISS' "Rock And Roll Over." The album came with a bonus CD called KISS Klassics, which was a re-recording of some of KISS' greatest hit by the current KISS lineup. A third disc contained a six-song live DVD recorded in Bueno Aires, Argentina on April 5, 2009.
As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed.

Sonic Boom Six
Sonic Boom Six (often shortened to SB6) are a five-piece band from Manchester, United Kingdom. Their eclectic sound combines different elements of several genres and has been described by Kerrang! as "taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid". Their lyrics tend to focus on social commentary with a live show known for "clashing activism and good times". The band's influences include Bad Brains, Public Enemy, The Fugees, The Specials, The Streets, and The Clash.
Career
Sonic Boom Six first appeared on the Manchester punk scene in April 2002. Some of their members were previously in the band Grimace. Their self-titled demo, recorded with Jerry Melchers, was self-released in October 2002. To promote the CD, they toured the UK with third wave ska veterans The Toasters and London ska punk/hip hop band King Prawn. They also toured with Coolie Ranx and performed as his backing band. In September 2003, they released The Turbo EP, their first release for Moon Ska Europe. This was produced by Ace (of Skunk Anansie) and Christophe. After a series of good reviews, Sonic Boom Six were invited to perform a session on BBC Radio One's The Lock Up.
