Red Planet is a 2000 science fiction film directed by Antony Hoffman, starring Val Kilmer, Carrie-Anne Moss and Tom Sizemore. It was released on November 10, 2000.
In 2056 AD, Earth is in ecologic crisis as a consequence of pollution and overpopulation. Meanwhile, automated interplanetary missions have been seeding Mars with atmosphere-producing algae for twenty years as the first stage in terraforming the planet. When the oxygen quantity produced by the algae is inexplicably reduced, the crew of Mars-1 investigates, and must continue the mission of terraforming the planet for human colonization.
The team is composed of Quinn Burchenal (Tom Sizemore), an agnostic geneticist, Bud Chantillas (Terence Stamp), an aging philosophical scientist and surgeon, systems engineer and "space janitor" Robby Gallagher (Val Kilmer), and beautiful, but no-nonsense commander, Kate Bowman (Carrie-Anne Moss). Also on board are arrogant pilot Ted Santen (Benjamin Bratt) and terraforming scientist Chip Pettengill (Simon Baker).
In the near future, Earth is dying. A new colony on Mars could be humanity's only hope. A team of American astronauts, each a specialist in a different field, is making the first manned expedition to the red planet and must struggle to overcome the differences in their personalities, backgrounds and ideologies for the overall good of the mission. When their equipment suffers life-threatening damage and the crew must depend on one another for survival on the hostile surface of Mars, their doubts, fears and questions about God, man's destiny and the nature of the universe become defining elements in their fates. In this alien environment they must come face to face with their most human selves.

Dr. Quinn Burchenal: Uh oh - we're going to talk about God now, aren't we? 'Cause if we are, I'm going to need another pop.::Chantilas: Not God... . faith.::Dr. Quinn Burchenal: Faith? Oh, I had a girlfriend named Faith. She cheated on me, with a girl named Chastity.
Gallagher: This is it. That moment they told us in high school where one day, algebra would save our lives.::Dr. Quinn Burchenal: [Laughs] Shut up.
[Commander Kate Bowman steps out of the shower not realizing Gallagher coming in]::Commander Kate Bowman: Could you pass me the towel, please?::Gallagher: Sure. Sorry.::Commander Kate Bowman: Just pretend I'm your sister.::Gallagher: [grins] I have two sisters. They don't look like you.
Gallagher: Fuck this planet!
Dr. Quinn Burchenal: We just disappointed 10 billion people. Not counting the ex-wives.
Gallagher: I prefer one moon, you know? That way you know what to call it: The Moon.::Lt. Ted Santen: [Over the radio] More color commentary from the space janitor.::Gallagher: The correct term is mechanical systems engineer.::Chip Pettengill: ....But he will accept space janitor.
Commander Kate Bowman: No joy on all scenarios for engine ignition. That includes hitting the console [hits the console]. What next? Over.
Commander Kate Bowman: How do you propose that I explain to Houston that two of my crew went blind drinking moonshine vodka?::Gallagher: Very carefully?::[Burchenal giggles]::Commander Kate Bowman: So what, doesn't this establishment serve women?
[Urinating on the surface of Mars]::Dr. Quinn Burchenal: Whoa! You sure do get some high arc in this low gravity.::Gallagher: You watching this, AMEE? We're taking the first piss on Mars.
[Upon being resuscitated]::Gallagher: I saw Elvis.
If human beings ever inhabited another world in our solar
system
This is the most likely candidate
The red planet
The iron core was no longer able to generate this
magnetic field
And then the solar wind started pounding…
And that could actually be in the case of Mars and Earth
A significant connection
A mystifying image
While flying over a region of Mars called Cydonia
Possibly where water spurted from the ground
Transforming into vapor and vanishing
Mars: it has intrigued human kind for thousands of years
Humans finally got a closer look at the mysterious planet
We conclude that
This is evidence for early life on Mars
Finding life on Mars could also help us understand the
origins of life on our own planet
And that could actually be in the case of Mars and Earth
