In our towns and cities, we have local government institutions that are called Municipalities and Municipal Corporations. An urban area is usually a compact and densely populated area. Municipal administration is necessary to provide basic civic facilities like water supply, drainage, garbage disposal, public health, primary education, construction and maintenance of roads and sanitation. As local level democratic government, the municipal institutions that are elected by the local people, raise taxes and collect fees and fines from the public. They regulate city life by laying down regulations regarding buildings, road network and garbage disposal. There are many developmental activities undertaken by them like women and child development, slums improvement etc. Municipal government has made possible participative urban development and local management of civic facilities.
We have created five videos that use motion-graphics to illustrate the basics of government, Canada’s democracy, our three levels of government, and the role and composition of municipalities and school boards.

Municipality
A municipality is usually an urban administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction. The term municipality is also used to mean the governing, ruling body of a municipality. A municipality is a general-purpose administrative subdivision, as opposed to a special-purpose district. The term is derived from French "municipalité" and Latin "municipalis".
The English word "Municipality" derives from the Latin social contract "municipium", meaning duty holders, referring to the Latin communities that supplied Rome with troops in exchange for their own incorporation into the Roman state (granting Roman citizenship to the inhabitants) while permitting the communities to retain their own local governments (a limited autonomy).
A municipality can be any political jurisdiction from a sovereign state, such as the Principality of Monaco, or a small village, such as West Hampton Dunes, New York.

Transit Announcement - $1.0B to Alberta Municipalities
Today in Calgary I had the pleasure of announcing $1.08B to Alberta's municipalities to support their public transit and water and waste infrastructure projects. The government of Canada is providing 50 % of these funds. Among the public transit projects approved in Alberta so far, three are in Calgary, for a total federal investment of over 68.4 million dollars. With local elections over, coalitions formed, and new municipalities taking over, the African Christian Democratic Party has joined several other parties in forming coalitions for new municipalities. This is however in stark contrast to their pre-2011 position that such previous coalitions had resulted in smaller parties being swallowed up by the larger ones.The ACDP expressed satisfaction after retaining its support base in the City of Cape Town following the local elections, and securing three seats in the metro council.
