The son of the Cleveland man who will spend the rest of his life in jail for imprisoning three women for a decade said his father received the "best possible sentence" for a violent streak he has witnessed since childhood.
I think that if he really can't control his impulses and he really doesn't have any value for human life, the way this case has shown, then behind bars is where he belongs for the rest of his life," he told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie in TODAY exclusive interview.
Castro said he will probably never visit his father in prison.
"I have nothing to say to him," he said.
Though he grew up in a house "with a lot of fear and violence," Castro said his father "wasn't a monster 24/7." Still, "if you crossed him, there would be consequences. I remember crying myself to sleep when I was a kid, because my legs were covered in welts from belts."
The three women who were abducted — Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight — were taken from the Cleveland streets between 2002 and 2004. They were freed in May after Berry broke partway through a door of Castro's house and screamed for help while her captive was away.
Investigators say Castro beat them, raped them and sometimes chained them in the basement. Castro fathered a daughter, now 6, with Berry, authorities have said.
Anthony Castro said he initially reacted, like the rest of Cleveland, with "overwhelming joy" when he heard that two of the victims — Berry and DeJesus — had been found. But he soon felt sick after his father's name and photograph became linked with the disappearance of the women.

Day 57 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, public defenders will call the convicted shooter's parents to testify in phase 2 of the penalty process, where they are attempting to show the jury mitigating circumstances.

Though he grew up in a house "with a lot of fear and violence," Castro said his father "wasn't a monster 24/7." Still, "if you crossed him, there would be consequences. I remember crying myself to sleep when I was a kid, because my legs were covered in welts from belts."
The three women who were abducted — Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight — were taken from the Cleveland streets between 2002 and 2004. They were freed in May after Berry broke partway through a door of Castro's house and screamed for help while her captive was away.
Investigators say Castro beat them, raped them and sometimes chained them in the basement. Castro fathered a daughter, now 6, with Berry, authorities have said.
Anthony Castro said he initially reacted, like the rest of Cleveland, with "overwhelming joy" when he heard that two of the victims — Berry and DeJesus — had been found. But he soon felt sick after his father's name and photograph became linked with the disappearance of the women.

Day 57 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, public defenders will call the convicted shooter's parents to testify in phase 2 of the penalty process, where they are attempting to show the jury mitigating circumstances.
Jurors have already confirmed they found aggravating circumstances in the mass shooting for which they convicted the gunman.
Holmes was convicted on 165 counts including murder and attempted murder for the shooting that killed 12 and injured 70 others during a midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. His defense attorneys unsuccessfully argued that he was insane at the time of the shooting.

Brooke tells him she still feels so much anger about what happened, even after all this time. He asks if talking to the person who killed her daughter would help her. No, she tells him, but talking to him about it has helped her a great deal, she feels as if a little of the weight has been lifted. Brooke again asks Eliot to reconsider and stay in Pine Valley, but he cannot do that, he tells her. The series centered around the story of an ex-serviceman named Al Simmons, who fought in the Vietnam War as a commando. He was betrayed and killed by a man whom he believed to be his close friend (the man, Chapel, burned him alive with a flamethrower). Upon his death, Simmons vowed revenge on Chapel and hoped that he would one day return to his beloved wife Wanda.
In order to accomplish his vow, he makes a pact with the Malebolgia (who was the overlord on the eighth plane of Hell). The pact was a simple one: Simmons would become a Soldier in Malebolgia's army (known as the "Hellspawn" or "Spawn" for short) in return for the ability to walk the earth once again in order to see Wanda. However, Simmons was tricked and his body was not returned to him; instead he had been given a different body which was a festering, pungently cadaverous, maggot-ridden walking corpse that had a massive living red cape attached to it. The head of this new body had been rotten for some time and was in an advanced state of decay, which led to Simmons donning a mask in order to cover its grotesque appearance.
