If Theatre
Mother
By Daniel Keene
Directed by Matt Scholten
One of Australia’s best loved actors, Noni Hazlehurst, stars in this complex and gritty, provocative and beautiful new work written especially for her.
Christy has found herself at the fringe of the world. Homeless, ageing, living on the outskirts of suburbia, she attracts the curiosity of the locals. Christy is not shy of an audience, and amuses herself with telling anyone who’ll listen the story of her life. But beneath her wild exaggerations and fantastic tales of loves lost and struggles overcome, there are the haunting truths that she would rather forget.
Mother, a one-woman play, is the newest work from Daniel Keene, directed by his long-time collaborator Matt Scholten.
Drawing on the poetry of Dorothy Hewitt, Keene explores Christy’s story. It is part truth, part fiction, and even she is no longer sure which is which.
Writer: Daniel Keene Director: Matt Scholten Cast: Noni Hazlehurst
Genre: Drama
Duration: 70 minutes, no interval
Warnings: Contains strong coarse language and adult themes. Children under 15 years not recommended.

Here is the last episode I have of Play School. Find more episodes soon. This ones from 1985 and come from the 1991 VHS tape Play School Hats. Found at a Hard Rubbish shop for $1. Play School is Australia’s longest running TV Show. The show was based on the British Show of the same name by the BBC that started in 1964. Ours stared on the 18th of July 1966 replacing Kindergarten Playtime. There’s been also a New Zealand Play School in 1975. But the difference is the theme tune and the fact the UK and NZ versions ended. The UK one was replace by Play Days in 1988. The NZ one ended in 1990. But ours kept on going. Ours got the record for the longest running Australian TV Show after Mr. Squiggle ended in 1999. This episode stars Noni Hazlehurst and John Hamblin. All rights for this video go to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. I’m only putting it up for Historical and nostalgic purposes. And the fact that you don’t see it on TV or DVD anymore. Please tell your friends about my You Tube channel and Subscribe. Hooroo! I’m Earnest Briggsy, And I speak the truth about Australian Television :D

For the first of our Sad/Angry/Happy series, Noni Hazlehurst, Ben Pobjie, Andrew Robb and Nicole Highet explore sadness, vulnerability and ‘coming out’ with one’s sorrow.

Here is 1st episode I have of Play School. 3 more episodes coming soon. In this talk, presented at Melbourne Town Hall (and introduced by Noni Hazlehurst), Bob Brown explains the reasoning and the influential events that have shaped his belief in optimism as a powerful agent that can make a real difference.
Bob Brown spent 20 years as leader of The Greens and has been involved in politics for most of his life. He has seen successive governments on both sides of the political divide come and go, and fought numerous campaigns championing human rights and fighting for the preservation of the environment. Throughout it all, he has managed to remain upbeat and optimistic. Where does this optimism come from, and how important is a positive outlook for propagating change?

For the first of our Sad/Angry/Happy series, Noni Hazlehurst, Ben Pobjie, Andrew Robb and Nicole Highet explore sadness, vulnerability and ‘coming out’ with one’s sorrow.
Pobjie, a comedian and writer, reads from a candid and moving blog post written in mid-2011, in which he confesses in detail the extent of his struggle with depression.
Robb discusses the powerful challenges he faced through a 43 year battle with depression whilst working as a businessman and member of the Liberal Party Shadow Cabinet, as well as his decision to go public with his illness, to seek help from his GP and later, when that failed, beyondblue.
From that same organisation, Highet — its Deputy CEO — provides the perspective of an experienced mental health professional on the pressures and sorrows that beset many members of our society.
Together, the panel discuss the stigma of mental illness and depression, and ask why we feel a need to pretend that everything’s okay. They talk about the relationship between vulnerability and perceptions of masculinity, the curative power of music and art and the risk of pathologising what can sometimes be reasonable emotional responses to situations such as grief.
