Chris Lewis (footballer)

Christopher Lockley "Chris" Lewis (born 17 March 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played over 200 AFL senior games for the West Coast Eagles.

An indigenous Australian, Lewis is one of the sons of Irwin Lewis, a notable scholar, sportsman, public servant, and indigenous Australian artist. Like his father and older brothers Clayton and Cameron, he attended Christ Church Grammar School, one of the elite independent schools in Western Australia, for his secondary education, and later played Australian rules football for the Claremont Football Club in the West Australian Football League.

At the time Lewis attended Christ Church, the school apparently did not allow Year 10 students to play in the First XVIII football team (which was reserved for Year 11 and 12 boys, for safety reasons). However, Lewis' ability meant that an exception was made in his case. He was also a very good cricketer whilst at Christ Church.

In 1990, he won the West Coast Eagles Club Champion Award. He was a member of the 1992 and 1994 WCE premiership teams, as well as the 1996 Claremont premiership team in the WAFL.

He is perhaps best known for his work in writing and running auto-cancelers for newsgroup spam, and his help in implementing (and avoiding the need for) UDPs. He was employed by Nortel Networks until Nortel filed for bankruptcy, and then became an independent security consultant. Christopher D. Lewis COM (born 1957) was a career police officer and former Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police. He retired from the position on March 29, 2014.

Early career

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Lewis has been with the Ontario Provincial Police since 1978. His first posting was as a constable in Kapuskasing, Ontario. He was promoted through the ranks.

Deputy Commissioner

He was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Field Operations by Fantino effective January 1, 2007. As Deputy Commissioner, Lewis oversaw the creation of the OPP’s aboriginal policing bureau and has studied aboriginal government and law. He has been in charge of the OPP's operation managing the conflict between Native protesters and non-Native residents in Caledonia throughout his tenure as deputy commissioner.

Lewis is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, as well as of a course in Homicide from the Harvard Associates in Police Science Homicide, Aboriginal Government and Law program at Athabasca University and is also a graduate of the Applied Management program at Northwood University.

Agnes Skinner

Agnes Skinner (voiced by Tress MacNeille) is the mother of Principal Skinner and first appeared in the first season episode "The Crepes of Wrath" as an old woman who embarrassingly calls her son "Spanky". However, as episodes progressed, the character turned bitter. She is very controlling of her son and often treats him as if he is a child. She hates Edna Krabappel due to her son's feelings for the other woman. Agnes has married four times. Several Springfield residents (including the Simpsons) are afraid of her. When "the real Seymour Skinner" arrives in Springfield, Agnes ends up rejecting him in part because he stands up to her, but also because unlike Skinner/Tamzarian, her biological son is independent and doesn't need her anymore, while Skinner immediately reverts to a good-for-nothing without her.

Lewis (lifting appliance)

A lewis (sometimes called a lewisson) is one of a category of lifting devices used by stonemasons to lift large stones into place with a crane, chain block, or winch. It is inserted into a specially prepared hole, or seating, in the top of a stone, directly above its centre of mass. It works by applying principles of the lever and utilises the weight of the stone to act on the long lever-arms which in turn results in a very high reaction force and friction where the short lever-arms make contact with the stone inside the hole and thereby prevents slipping.

Etymology

The name lewis may come from the Latin levo -avi, -atum meaning to levitate or lift, but the Oxford English Dictionary Online states, "the formation and the phonology are not easily explained on this hypothesis", preferring "origin obscure", and speculating that the term may derive from a personal name. The Romans used the lewis. The specially shaped hole that is shaped to fit the device is known as a lewis hole. Lewis holes in the uppermost masonry coursings are neatly repaired with matching indented plugs after the stone has been set in place.

Lewis (crater)

Lewis is a crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies along the western edge of the Montes Cordillera mountains that surround the Mare Orientale impact basin. This crater has been heavily disrupted by the formation of the basin, and it is covered by ejecta from the impact leaving only an uneven depression in the surface. The outer rim is roughly circular, and the interior is uneven.
