Udhaar Ki Zindagi (1994)

Plot: Sitaram runs his family in an authoritarian manner. He has planned the marriage of his son, Vasudev, only to be told that Vasudev loves another woman, Suman, who he plans to marry. Sitaram tells his son to forget about his love, and marry the woman he has chosen for him. Vasudev instead marries Suman, and brings her home to introduce her to to his family. While the rest of the family welcome Suman, Sitaram makes it clear that she is not welcome. Shortly thereafter Vasudev and Suman leave the household and re-locate to the U.S. Several years later, Sitaram receives a letter informing him that Vasudev and his family will be coming to visit them in India. Sitaram looks forward to seeing his son and his family after all these years. He is enraged when he finds that the only one sent to visit him is Sita, his granddaughter, and the excuse for Vasudev and Suman not attending is that "they are busy". Old wounds surface, and Sitaram will have nothing to do with his granddaughter, who has brought a special gift for her granddad, from her dad. But Sitaram will not accept this gift, until and unless his son himself comes to deliver it to him, and it is then he comes to know the truth behind his son's absence.

Plot: Haridas Choudhry lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay, India, along with his wife, Sonu, son, Guddu, and sister, Geeta. He had started his career as a lowly cobbler on a the corner of a busy street, but is now the owner of a shoe company. His associates want him to make shoes that wear out soon, but he refuses to do so, and would like to buy out National Shoes for 20 Lakh Rupees. He withdraws the money, but before he could undertake the transaction, Guddu gets kidnapped, and the demand from his abductors is for 20 Lakhs. Much to his relief he finds out that his servant's son, Bansi, has been mistakenly abducted in place of his son. Nevertheless he decides to pay the ransom, this time with the help of Inspector Amarnath Gill, his sister's estranged boyfriend, who he had turned down as he was not wealthy enough. The money is turned over to the kidnappers, two associates, Manmohan and Preeti, are arrested, Bansi is found and returned to his dad. But the money and the real abductor, Raj Singh, is still at large - and as long as he remains at large none of them can really be safe for he has a grudge to settle against Haridas, and the missing 20 Lakhs may result in the bankruptcy of Haridas' company, they may have to forfeit their family home, and Haridas may well face a jail sentence for embezzling this amount for personal gain.

Plot: Dhaniram is a very wealthy man who would like to expand his business into a multi-storied hotel. The only problem is that the proposed hotel is located on a section of land that is occupied by some slum dwellers. All of Dhaniram's efforts to vacate the land have been in vain, as the dwellers are united by two men, Rana and Raka - both inseparable friends. Dhaniram recruits another dweller, Abdul, to find out their weaknesses and exploit them. Abdul meets with Raka and convinces him that Rana has been eying Farida and Raka's girlfriend, Aruna. Raka disbelieves him, but eventually sees Rana with Farida and then subsequently with Aruna in very intimate positions. Raka accuses and beats up Rana, but is unable to convince the other dwellers, as a result Raka leaves the slum and goes to work for Dhaniram. With Raka leaving the slum, the dwellers now only have Rana to protect their interests, and the question remains will Rana be able to protect them from being exploited by Raka and Dhaniram?

Plot: Anoop (Dharmendra) is a struggling writer. One day he meets with wealthy and beautiful Seema (Hema Malini) and both fall in love. When Seema's brother Rajan Choudhury (Pran) finds out, he is angered and forbids Seema to see Anoop again. On the other hand Anoop's sister, Rekha (Aruna Irani), and Rajan's brother-in-law Mahesh (Mehmood) have also fallen in love with each other. This angers Rajan even more and he turns Mahesh out of his house. Rajan finds out that Anoop has authored a book called "Naya Zamana", and decides to publish it and sell it under his name. Anoop and Seema find out when the book hits the stalls and is a big hit. Rajan is unapologetic. Rajan then tries to evict the poor people living in small tenements with Anoop and his mother (Lalita Pawar), but Anoop and Seema intervene, and as a result Rajan orders the tenements to be burnt secretly by his henchman Sitaram (Jankidas). Anoop is blamed for the destruction and arrested by the police. Seema's dad, Sachin Choudhury (Ashok Kumar) forbids Seema to see Anoop anymore as well as stay away from the poor people's lives. Seema will now to chose between her lover and her father.

Plot: Orphaned Raju, in the company of four elephants, has to perform with them at street corners, in order to keep alive. Slowly he amasses a fortune, and is able to build his own private zoo, housing tigers, lions, bears, and of course the four elephants. He treats all the animals as his friends. He meets with Tanu, and both fall in love. Tanu's dad, Ratanlal, is opposed to this alliance, but subsequently relents, and permits the young couple to get married. Tanu is unhappy with the amount of time Raju spends with his animal friends, and this causes some bitterness between them. Things do not improve when a child is born, as Tanu fears that one day the child will be harmed by one of the animals, and hence Raju is told to make a choice between his animal friends or his wife and son.

Plot: Dashing pilot Arun romances Vandana Tripathi, and both in love with each other, become very intimate, and as a result Vandana gets pregnant. Arun and Vandana have a quiet temple wedding ceremony, and Arun leaves to re-join his duties. Unfortunately, Arun is killed, and Vandana is unable to convince anyone of her marriage with him, and as such must re-locate to hide her shame. She gives birth to a baby boy, who she must place in an orphanage, and then adopt. Unfortunately for her, the boy, Suraj, is adopted by someone else. She manages to find out their whereabouts, and gets a job as a servant. When she is about to be molested by Shyam, a relative, Suraj witnesses this, and kills him. Vandana takes the blame for this killing and is sentenced to imprisonment, leaving her son and her life behind, for a crime she did not commit. When she returns everything has changed, and she is unable to locate the family where her son was.

Plot: Raja has a vivid imagination since childhood, used to frequently lie and gamble, which did lead him to considerable trouble with his schoolmaster, mom, Bhagwanti, and sister, Rani. When Raja is accused of stealing medication, he is arrested, leading to the death of his ailing mother, and Rani being taken to an orphanage run by Kamlabai. Years later, Raja re-enters Rani's life and claims to be a very wealthy businessman with contacts all over the world. A few days later, Rani comes to know that Raja has been lying and the wealth that her brother had acquired was by robbing his employer, Rai Saheb Bhola Ram. Raja gets arrested and sent to prison. Ashamed by her brother's wrong-doing Rani leaves the orphanage and goes to work in the household of Dr. Mohan by looking after his ailing mom. Shortly thereafter she finds out that Raja, too, has got a job as a chauffeur with this family - only to be dismissed for stealing a wrist-watch of Mohan's advocate brother. Rani continues to work for Mohan and his family, without letting anyone know that Raja is really her brother, and soon wins everyone's heart, gets engaged to Mohan, much to the chagrin of Bhola Ram, who wants his daughter, Sarangi, to get married to Mohan, and wants to expose Rani's background. Shortly after Rani marriage to Mohan, the Police are informed that Bhola Ram has been killed and in his dying declaration had named Raja as his killer. Watch what happens when Mohan and his family find out that Raja is really Rani's brother - and the impact this has on the entire family - and Raja, who may well face the gallows, after being convicted. Plot: Widowed Mrs. Lal lives with her two sons, Ram and Ratan; an unmarried daughter, Sheela; Ram's wife, Parvati and her children. While Ram is employed in a mill, Ratan is studying engineering in Calcutta. When Ratan returns, he is offered a job at the same mill, falls in love with a Typist named Manju, much to chagrin of Malti, the daughter of the mill-owner, Sewakram. When Ratan finds out that Sewakram has been defrauding the employees, he decides to form a union, a move that is opposed by Ram, who is very devoted and loyal to Sewakram. Things go from bad to worse when the workers decide to go on strike on one hand, while Ram decides to thrown Ratan out of the house. Word gets around that Ratan is against Sewakram, and soon he gets blacklisted, Sheela who was supposed to marry Kundan, the son of Sitaram, has her marriage canceled, and the family lose their prestige and credit in the community. The question remains, will the workers continue to be at the mercy of Sewakram, and will the Lal family be re-united again.
