A lost city is a settlement that fell into terminal decline and became extensively or completely uninhabited. The locations of many lost cities have been forgotten, but some have been rediscovered and studied extensively by scientists. Recently abandoned cities or cities whose location was never in question might be referred to as ruins or ghost towns. The search for such lost cities by European explorers and adventurers in Africa, the Americas, and Southeast Asia from the 15th century onwards eventually led to the development of archaeology.
Lost cities generally fall into two broad categories: those where no knowledge of the city existed until the time of their rediscovery, and those whose locations have been lost, but knowledge of their existence has been retained in myths, legends, or historical records.
Cities may become lost for a variety of reasons including natural disasters, economic or social upheaval, or war.
The Incan capital city of Vilcabamba was destroyed and depopulated during the Spanish conquest of Peru in 1572. The Spanish did not rebuild the city, and the location went unrecorded and was forgotten until it was rediscovered through a detailed examination of period letters and documents.
Lost City is a 2004 novel by Clive Cussler. It was printed by Penguin publishers ISBN 0-7181-4735-9.
It tells of Kurt Austin's dealings with the Fauchard family, which has dominated the weapons industry for several thousand years, their secret past, the monsters they have created, and the plague they have unleashed on the worlds oceans, all in a quest for immortality.
The Story begins with a flashback to August 1914, where Jules Fauchard is flying his Morane-Saulnier N, mono-winged aircraft. Fauchard is heading to meet the pope's emissary in Switzerland but as he is coming to the border and the French Alps, a squad of six Aviatik biplanes find him. The planes attack Fauchard and though he destroys four planes he is eventually shot down and killed. His plane lands in a glacial river and Fauchard along with his helmet and strong box are buried in a glacier.
Cut to the present day in the Scottish Orkney Islands. A reality television show is being filmed when that evening a group of animals attack the crew and cast. Everyone is killed except for Jodie Michaelson; the only reason she is not killed is because as she was running from the creatures she fell into a deep crevace in the rocks and the animals lost her scent.
Lost Cities is a 60-card card game, designed in 1999 by game designer Reiner Knizia and published by several publishers. The objective of the game is to mount profitable expeditions to one or more of the five lost cities (the Himalayas, the Brazilian Rain Forest, the Desert Sands, the Ancient Volcanos and Neptune's Realm). The game was originally intended as a 2-player game, but rule variants have been contributed by fans to allow 1 or 2 further players, causing Reiner Knizia himself to later provide semi-official 4-player rules.
Lost Cities is a fast-moving game, with players playing or discarding, and then replacing, a single card each turn. Cards represent progress on one of the five color-coded expeditions. Players must decide, during the course of the game, how many of these expeditions to actually embark upon. Card-play rules are quite straightforward, but because players can only move forward on an expedition (by playing cards which are higher-numbered than those already played), making the right choice in a given game situation can be quite difficult. An expedition that has been started will earn points according to how much progress has been made when the game ends, and after three rounds, the player with the highest total score wins the game. Each expedition that is started but not thoroughly charted incurs a negative point penalty (investment costs).
Atlantis (Ancient Greek: Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas") is a fictional island mentioned within an allegory on the hubris of nations in Plato's works Timaeus and Critias, where it represents the antagonist naval power that besieges "Ancient Athens", the pseudo-historic embodiment of Plato's ideal state (see The Republic). In the story, Athens was able to repel the Atlantean attack, unlike any other nation of the (western) known world, supposedly giving testament to the superiority of Plato's concept of a state. At the end of the story, Atlantis eventually falls out of favor with the gods and famously submerges into the Atlantic Ocean.
Despite its minor importance in Plato's work, the Atlantis story has had a considerable impact on literature. The allegorical aspect of Atlantis was taken up in utopian works of several Renaissance writers, such as Bacon's New Atlantis and More's Utopia. On the other hand, 19th-century amateur scholars misinterpreted Plato's account as historical tradition, most notably in Donnelly's Atlantis: The Antediluvian World. Plato's vague indications of the time of the events—more than 9,000 years before his day—and the alleged location of Atlantis—"beyond the Pillars of Hercules"—has led to much pseudoscientific speculation. As a consequence, Atlantis has become a byword for any and all supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations and continues to inspire contemporary fiction, from comic books to films.

The Lost City of Atlantis - HD Documentary 2015 Atlantis is a legendary "lost" island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace. The idea of Atlantis has captivated dreamers, occultists and New Agers for generations. Unlike many legends whose origins have been lost in the mists of time, we know exactly when and where the story of Atlantis first appeared. The story was first told in two of Plato's dialogues, the "Timaeus" and the "Critias," written about 330 B.C. Though today Atlantis is often thought of as a peaceful utopia, the Atlantis that Plato described in his fable was very different. In his book "Frauds, Myths and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience in Archaeology" (McGraw-Hill, 2013) professor of archaeology Ken Feder ...

[Mr. Duke]
I told the tower of power we can work together
But I guess they rather see wars and scars better
Street veterans holding enemy bandera
And then we're caught up in the web of the guerra
We're all fightin' and fightin' and lose lives
At the end everyone dies
We're all cursed like that bu the maker
No muthafucka shall be a life-taker
We cross the firing line, sickos on both sides
Terror strikes under streetlights and grow
More out of control and psycho
[Jacken]
My realm is dowtown, rampart district, pico union
We shatter illusions with weapons we're using
Or sets we're choosing
No Rolls we roll old-mobile
More real than majority, we're docile but still
Other sides get more peeled hit by street teams
Big paybacks and police beatings
I can't replace my home with peacefull silence
But my roots are planted in this city of violence
We call it Lost City where angels roam commiting unknown
Ghetto prone guarding the zone
>From all damage but can only manage to handle
Partial scandal. What's your angle? Crooked or vandal? Or killer
Plot filler drug dealer we all co-exist in this thriller
Chorus: X2
[Mr. Duke]
Look around, it's in your town
Deadly sirens brings on violence
[Jacken]
Take heed to this warning bad times stormin'
War between city blocks and cops
[Mr. Duke]
Watchful eye, resident die
When they see crimes go down and drop dimes
It ain't no lie these days become strange
How many people go shootin' at the street range
Arms armed at those that control felon man chains
Explain why I'm target to homicide
Flash throwin at my head code red leavin' soldiers wasted, dead
[Jacken]
Truth sparks revolution and is therefore labeled violent
Condemned to the silent movement of rebels who are defiant
Sick-ciders spreading our venoms like sick spiders
We construct a web and catch all those who fight us
Capture threads at your head
Crash units switch to code red
Find you in a ditch undercover dirt bed
Who said they was untouchable but instead
Catch the end of their ropes all hopes bled
Out your village, pillage empires rank higher
But in the end cities get lost in the crossfire
[B-Real]
Everybody wants a piece of your pie, do you qualify?
Or will you die like all the others?
Survival is your onlt means, or will you suffer?
From those bad dreams are you still losing tour will to live and
Let live in the land of the chaotic, abusive "Lost Cities"
Filled with narcotics?
Two times to the power, I planted a bomb in the tower
Going off every hour
No prisoniers in the laws of wars that you saw
Imagine all the sick individuals
Down for the cause
We all come from the sick side of town
But some of us stay underground in the unfound Lost Cities
[Mr. Duke]
I need your help to gain control of the Lost City
Fight to survive, something crazy has just happened
The captain of the justice system runin' the show is psycho
I claim to be a big part of "Empire Strikes Back" at rampart
Rivals thrown in a vicious cycle livin' in the city that's lost
Chorus: X2
[Jacken]
Look around, it's in your town
Deadly sirens brings on violence
[Mr. Duke]
Take heed to this warning bad times stormin'
