Dingle (Irish: An Daingean or Daingean Uí Chúis, meaning "Ó Cúis' fort") is a town in County Kerry, Ireland. The only town on the Dingle Peninsula, it sits on the Atlantic coast, about 50 kilometres (30 mi) southwest of Tralee and 71 kilometres (40 mi) northwest of Killarney.
Principal industries in the town are tourism, fishing and agriculture: Dingle Mart (livestock market) serves the surrounding countryside. In 2006 Dingle had a population of 1,920. Dingle is situated in a Gaeltacht region. There used to be two secondary schools but they have now amalgamated to produce Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne. A friendly dolphin named Fungi lives in the harbour.
In Ireland the town was developed as a port following the Norman invasion of Ireland. By the thirteenth century more goods were being exported through Dingle than Limerick, and in 1257 an ordinance of Henry III imposed customs on the port's exports. By the fourteenth century, importing wine was a major business. Maurice FitzGerald, 1st Earl of Desmond, who held palatine powers in the area, imposed a tax on this activity around 1329. By the sixteenth century, Dingle was one of Ireland's main trading ports, exporting fish and hides and importing wines from the continent of Europe. French and Spanish fishing fleets used the town as a base.
The Dingle Peninsula (Irish: Corca Dhuibhne – anglicised as Corkaguiny, the name of the corresponding barony) is the northernmost of the major peninsulas in County Kerry. It ends beyond the town of Dingle at Dunmore Head, the westernmost point of Ireland and arguably Europe.
The Dingle Peninsula is named after the town of Dingle. The peninsula is also commonly called Corca Dhuibhne (Corcu Duibne) even when those referring to it are speaking in English. Corca Dhuibhne, which means "seed or tribe of Duibhne" (an Irish personal name), takes its name from the túath (people, nation) of Corco Dhuibhne who occupied the peninsula in the Middle Ages and who also held a number of territories in the south and east of County Kerry.
The peninsula exists because of the band of sandstone rock that forms the Slieve Mish mountain range at the neck of the peninsula, in the east, and the unnamed central mountain range further to the west. Ireland's highest mountain outside Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Mount Brandon at 951 m, forms part of a beautiful high ridge with stunning views over the peninsula and North Kerry.
Ireland (i/ˈaɪərlənd/; Irish: Éire [ˈeːɾʲə]; Ulster-Scots: Airlann [ˈɑːrlən]) is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George's Channel. Ireland is the second-largest island of the British Isles, the third-largest in Europe, and the twentieth-largest on Earth.
Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and located in the northeast of the island. In 2011 the population of Ireland was about 6.4 million, ranking it the second-most populous island in Europe after Great Britain. Just under 4.6 million live in the Republic of Ireland and just over 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.
The island's geography comprises relatively low-lying mountains surrounding a central plain, with several navigable rivers extending inland. The island has lush vegetation, a product of its mild but changeable climate which avoids extremes in temperature. Thick woodlands covered the island until the Middle Ages. As of 2013, the amount of land that is wooded in Ireland is about 11% of the total, compared with a European average of 35%. There are 26 extant mammal species native to Ireland. The Irish climate is very moderated and classified as oceanic. As a result, winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area. However, summers are cooler than those in Continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.
County Kerry (Irish: Contae Chiarraí) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and is also part of the province of Munster. It is named after the Ciarraige who lived in part of the present county. Kerry County Council is the local authority for the county and Tralee serves as the county town. The population of the county was 145,502 in 2011, according to the 2011 census.
Kerry is the 5th largest of the 32 counties of Ireland by area and the 13th largest by population. Uniquely, it is bordered by only two other counties: County Limerick to the east and County Cork to the south-east. The county town is Tralee. The diocesan see is Killarney, which is one of Ireland's most famous tourist destinations. The Lakes of Killarney, an area of outstanding natural beauty are located in Killarney National Park. The tip of the Dingle Peninsula is the most westerly point of Ireland.
There are nine historic baronies in the county. While baronies continue to be officially defined units, they are no longer used for many administrative purposes. Their official status is illustrated by Placenames Orders made since 2003, where official Irish names of baronies are listed under "Administrative units".
The Aran Islands (Irish: Oileáin Árann—pronunciation: [əlʲˈɑːnʲ ˈɑːrənʲ]) or The Arans (na hÁrainneacha—[nə ˈhɑːrənʲəxə]) are a group of three islands located at the mouth of Galway Bay, on the west coast of Ireland. They constitute the barony of Aran in County Galway, Ireland.
From west to east the islands are: Inishmore (Árainn Mhór/Inis Mór—[ˈɑːrənʲ woːr] or [ˈiniʃ moːr]), the largest; Inishmaan (Inis Meáin/Inis Meadhóin—[ˈɪnɪɕ mʲɑːn]), the second-largest; and Inisheer (Inis Thiar/Inis Oírr/Inis Oirthir—[ˈiniʃ hiər / iːrʲ / erʲhirʲ]), the smallest.
The 1,200 inhabitants primarily speak Irish, the language used in local placenames. Most islanders are also fluent in English.
The approaches to the bay between the Aran Islands and the mainland are as follows:

Walking all the day, near tall towers where falcons build their nests Siver winged they fly, they know the call of freedom in their breasts Soar Black Head against the sky, between the rocks that run down to the sea Living on your western shore, saw summer sunsets, asked for more I stood by your Atlantic sea, and sang a song for Ireland Talking all the day with true friends, who try to make you stay Telling jokes and news, singing songs to pass the night away Watched the Galway salmon run like silver dancing darting in the sun Living on your western shore saw summer sunsets, asked for more I stood by your Atlantic sea, and sang a song for Ireland Drinking all the day in old pubs, where fiddlers love to play Someone touched the bow, he played a reel, it seemed so fine and ga...

She's best known for playing boisterous Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale but Lisa Riley is causing a stir in real-life after shedding a huge eight stone in weight. The actress appeared on Loose Women on Thursday and looked unrecognisable having slimmed from a size 30 to a size 16, wearing a cute mini skirt with black tights and sexy knee high boots. During her interview on the show, she revealed that health fears prompted her to kick start a lifestyle overhaul after visiting her cancer-stricken father in hospital. 'I thought, that's the next stage. I don't want to be that statistic and I got the fear factor. A light-bulb went off in my head because I don't want to be that.' Taking action, Lisa denied claims that she has had a gastric band, adding that she has worked sensibly to lose the weig...
To read the article visit http://www.eurodestination.com/2013/05/08/the-dingle-peninsula-ireland/ The Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on Earth. I was warned the weather was not going to be great this week, but as it turned out the sea mist that so regularly shrouds the headland at this time of year made the whole place seem even more ethereal than usual. The only downside was not being able to see the mountain tops or even to get the opportunity of viewing the scenery from the top of Mount Brandon. Down below, however, the sea was just something else, and since it was still pretty humid, it was a delight to swim in, even though I was slightly lumbered with my camera equipment and my car etc. I stayed at the Benners Hotel in Ding...

Read the blog of our trek at: http://kernowclimber.blogspot.ie/2015/04/trekking-and-wild-camping-in-brandon.html In the second of our Wild Ireland film series, we visit the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, surrounded on three sides by the mighty Atlantic Ocean, with a spine that is rugged and mountainous. The Brandon Massif can lay claim to some of the most picturesque views of seascapes and glacial mountainscapes in Ireland, offering among the very best hillwalking experiences this island has to offer. We undertook a three day trek with two nights wild camping over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April 2015, in glorious weather conditions. Starting from Mount Brandon Hostel in Cloghane, we did a circular route covering over 40km, taking in 12 summits including Mount Brandon at 952m. Wi...

Travel video about destination The Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. The Dingle Peninsula in the southwest of Ireland is well known as one of the country’s most scenic locations. It is also a region with a fascinating history and the origin of its villages and farms date back to Early Christian and even prehistoric times. The fifteen hundred inhabitants of tiny Dingle Town have for generations been closely associated with the sea. Although today’s fishing industry is not what it once was, the fishing harbour still plays a vital role in the lives of the local people. Due to tourism the pubs of Dingle Town are kept well busy, however, compared with other parts of Ireland tourism here is a far more subdued affair. In Dingle Town in 1984 a dolphin appeared just off the coast and it accompanied the f...
