The cavatina "Se vuol ballare" is an aria for baritone or bass from the first act of the opera The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro (1784). The Italian title means "If you want to dance".
The song is sung by Figaro upon discovering the count's ploys to exercise his newly reasserted feudal Droit du seigneur, the ius primae noctis to sleep with Figaro's wife Susanna before the consummation of their marriage. Figaro sings of how he will unravel the count's schemes and thwart him. Written a mere three years before the French Revolution, it can also be read as a political attack on the power-wielding nobility of the time.
Beethoven wrote a series of 12 variations for piano and violin, WoO 40, on the theme of "Se vuol ballare".
The Marriage of Figaro (Italian: Le nozze di Figaro, pronounced [le ˈnɔttse di ˈfiːɡaro]), K. 492, is an opera buffa (comic opera) in four acts composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with an Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 1 May 1786. The opera's libretto is based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro ("The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro"), which was first performed in 1784. It tells how the servants Figaro and Susanna succeed in getting married, foiling the efforts of their philandering employer Count Almaviva to seduce Susanna and teaching him a lesson in fidelity.
The Marriage of Figaro is a cornerstone of the repertoire and appears consistently among the top ten in the Operabase list of most frequently performed operas.
Beaumarchais's earlier play The Barber of Seville had already made a successful transition to opera in a version by Paisiello. Although Beaumarchais's Marriage of Figaro was at first banned in Vienna because of its licentiousness, Mozart's librettist managed to get official approval for an operatic version which eventually achieved great success.
Marriage is a socially or ritually recognized union or legal contract between spouses.

Bryn Terfel Jones CBE (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈbrɨn ˈtɛrvɛl]; born 9 November 1965) is a Welsh bass-baritone opera and concert singer. Terfel was initially associated with the roles of Mozart, particularly Figaro and Don Giovanni, but has subsequently shifted his attention to heavier roles, especially those by Wagner.
Bryn Terfel Jones was born in Pant Glas, Caernarfonshire, North Wales, the son of a farmer. His first language is Welsh. He knew of another Welsh baritone named Bryn Jones, so chose Bryn Terfel as his professional name. He had an interest in and talent for music from a very young age. A family friend taught him how to sing, starting with traditional Welsh songs. After winning numerous competitions for his singing, he moved to London in 1984 and entered the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied under Rudolf Piernay. He graduated in 1989, winning both the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award and the Gold Medal. The same year he came second behind Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the Cardiff BBC Singer of the World Competition, but won the Lieder Prize.

Se Vuol Ballare from Mozarts "Le Nozze di Figaro"
0:13:46 - “Se vuol ballare, signor contino, il chitarrino le suonerò”: It’s difficult to render into English the pun of the initial verses of this Cavatina: in Italian, the verb “suonare” (to play) can mean also “to beat somebody” (for example in the idiomatic expression “suonarle a qualcuno” , something like “to give someone a beating”). Besides, the word “chitarrino” (literally “little guitar”), it’s one of the ancient popular ways to say (and not to say)... the rear end. It follows that Figaro would gladly make the Count dance (or even caper) kicking his arse! At least a symbolic revenge of that “sacrilegious kick” Mozart had received up his backside from Count Arco, chief steward of the Archbishop of Salzburg, five years before, when he asked to took leave of his angry employer.
