The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG; English: German Research Foundation) is an important German research funding organization and the largest such organization in Europe.
The DFG supports research in science, engineering, and the humanities through a large variety of grant programmes, prizes and by funding infrastructure. The self-governed organization is based in Bonn and financed by the German states and the federal government. Only Germany's leading research universities are members of the DFG.
The most important research prize endowed by the DFG is the Leibniz Prize.
In 1937, the Notgemeinschaft der Wissenschaft (NG) was renamed the Deutsche Gemeinschaft zur Erhaltung und Förderung der Forschung ("German Association for the Support and Advancement of Scientific Research"), for short known as the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). By the end of World War II in Germany, in 1945, the DFG was no longer active. In 1949, after formation of the Federal Republic, it was re-founded as the NG and again from 1951 as the DFG.
German(s) may refer to:
Research comprises "creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of humans, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications." It is used to establish or confirm facts, reaffirm the results of previous work, solve new or existing problems, support theorems, or develop new theories. A research project may also be an expansion on past work in the field. To test the validity of instruments, procedures, or experiments, research may replicate elements of prior projects, or the project as a whole. The primary purposes of basic research (as opposed to applied research) are documentation, discovery, interpretation, or the research and development (R&D) of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge. Approaches to research depend on epistemologies, which vary considerably both within and between humanities and sciences. There are several forms of research: scientific, humanities, artistic, economic, social, business, marketing, practitioner research, etc.

Germany (/ˈdʒɜːrməni/; German: Deutschland [ˈdɔʏtʃlant]), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland, listen ), is a federal parliamentary republic in West-Central Europe. It includes 16 constituent states and covers an area of 357,021 square kilometres (137,847 sq mi) with a largely temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. With about 81.5 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state in the European Union. After the United States, it is the second most popular migration destination in the world.
Various Germanic tribes have occupied northern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before 100 AD. During the Migration Period the Germanic tribes expanded southward. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation.
Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen (German: Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen; Latin: Universitas Eberhardina Carolina) is a public research university located in the city of Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg. It is one of Germany's most famous and oldest universities, noted in medicine, natural sciences, and the humanities. In the area of German Studies (German: Germanistik) it has been ranked first among all German universities for many years, and is known as a centre for the study of theology and religion. Tübingen is one of five classical "university towns" in Germany; the other four being Marburg, Göttingen, Freiburg and Heidelberg. The university is associated with some Nobel laureates, especially in the fields of medicine and chemistry.
The University of Tübingen was founded in 1477 by Count Eberhard V (Eberhard im Bart, 1445–1496), later the first Duke of Württemberg, a civic and ecclesiastic reformer who established the school after becoming absorbed in the Renaissance revival of learning during his travels to Italy. Its first rector was Johannes Nauclerus.

European Astroculture and Extraterrestrial Life in the 20th Century At the Free University of Berlin with support of the German Research Foundation DFG a group of young researchers looks at "European Astroculture and Extraterrestrial Life in the 20th Century". They focus specifically on European perspectives of space flight and the relationship between 'science' and 'fiction'. How have European conceptions of the cosmos and extraterrestrial life changed parallel to the continuous exploration of space? Focusing on the cultural imagination and societal impact of outer space and extraterrestrial life in Western Europe, the research analyzes the ways in which so-called Astrofuturism developed into a key element of western modernity since the establishment of an international space movement. The newly installed high-performance computer MOGON at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz provides the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate a new national profile in high-performance computing. The state government, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the universities in Mainz and Kaiserslautern invested a total of almost EUR 5.5 million in the new high-performance computers, thus pushing the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to the forefront of research in this area. In addition, the now available super-fast computing capacity will support and strengthen top-flight research in Mainz and Kaiserslautern, regardless of whether it be in meteorology, genome research, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or in new materials research. http://southasia.berkeley.edu/ A talk by Dr. Axel Michaels, Professor for Classical Indology, South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University. Talk Abstract: In the past, the analysis of South Asian historiography has been preoccupied by arguments based on an understanding of history that highlights facts and events. A transcultural and multidisciplinary approach, however, would overcome the common dichotomies of factuality and fictionality, history and myth, or evidence and truth. Recognizing the various temporalities of South Asian historiography, the paper develops an approach to bridge asymmetries and entanglements in the academic use of the past in a way that also opens up a new perspective on Western historiography. By analyzing the Nepalikabhupavamshavali (better known as "Wright Chro...
