Donald Eugene Lytle (May 31, 1938 – February 19, 2003), better known by his stage name Johnny Paycheck, was an American country music singer, multi-instrumentalist and Grand Ole Opry member most famous for recording the David Allan Coe song "Take This Job and Shove It". He achieved his greatest success in the 1970s as a major force in country music's "Outlaw Movement" popularized by artists such as David Allan Coe, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, and Merle Haggard. In the 1980s, his music career slowed for drug, alcohol and legal problems. He served a prison sentence in the early 1990s and his declining health effectively ended his career in early 2000.
Born in Greenfield, Ohio, Donald Lytle was playing in talent contests by the age of 9. He took a job with country music legend George Jones for whom he played bass and steel guitar. He later co-wrote Jones' hit song "Once You've Had the Best." Paycheck was a tenor harmony singer with numerous hard country performers in the late 1950s and early 1960s including Ray Price. Paycheck, along with Willie Nelson, worked in Price's band the Cherokee Cowboys. He is featured as a tenor singer on recordings by Faron Young, Roger Miller, and Skeets McDonald. In 1960, he reached Top 35 status in Cashbox magazine's country charts as Donny Young with the tune "Miracle Of Love". From the early to mid-1960s, he also enjoyed some success as a songwriter for others, with his biggest songwriting hit being "Apartment No. 9", which served as Tammy Wynette's first chart hit in December 1966.
Jonathan Kemp (August 2, 1959 – April 16, 2015) was a Bahamian singer, songwriter and record producer. Beginning his career as a songwriter in late–1979, Kemp is perhaps best known for his solo work including his 1988 R&B/New Jack Swing single Just Got Paid which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 1989.
Kemp began singing in nightclubs in the Bahamas at 13. He moved to Harlem, New York in 1979 with the band Kinky Fox. In the early 1980s, Kemp became a successful session musician and songwriter, singing backup for the B. B. & Q. Band on their 1982 album All Night Long (on which he co-wrote several tracks) and for Change on their 1982 album Sharing Your Love (on which he co-wrote "Take You To Heaven").
Kemp solo landed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records and his eponymous debut album came out in 1986. It charted in the U.S. on Billboard′s Top Black Albums chart reaching No. 36 on 28 June of that year. He scored a minor hit single from the album with "Just Another Lover" (co-written by Kashif), which peaked at No. 14 Billboard′s Hot Black Singles chart on 21 June 1986 and hit the Hot Dance/Disco charts reaching No. 26 in Club Play and No. 35 in 12 Inch Singles Sales that same month.

"Rhinestone Cowboy" is a song written by Larry Weiss and most famously recorded by American country music singer Glen Campbell with instrumental backing by the Wrecking Crew, L.A. session musicians. The song enjoyed immense popularity with both country and pop audiences when it was released in 1975.
Weiss wrote and recorded "Rhinestone Cowboy" in 1974, and it appeared on his 20th Century Records album Black and Blue Suite. It did not however, have much of a commercial impact as a single. In late 1974, Campbell heard the song on the radio and, during a tour of Australia decided to learn the song. Soon after his return to the United States, Campbell went to Al Coury's office at Capitol Records, where he was approached about "a great new song" — "Rhinestone Cowboy."
Several music writers noted that Campbell identified with the subject matter of "Rhinestone Cowboy" — survival and making it, particularly when the chips are down — very strongly. As Steven Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic put it, the song is about a veteran artist "who's aware that he's more than paid his dues during his career ... but is still surviving, and someday, he'll shine just like a rhinestone cowboy."

The album is a semi-roadmovie-story kind of thing. Songs and dialogues. SUPER ALBUM. Reached nr. 31 in the album-charts back then. Too low, i know! Enjoy it! The Doc, www.robdokter.com

This Day in Music History: On This Day In Music History, November 1, 1994, Epic Records releases Merle Haggard's "Super Hits, Vol. 2." Merle Ronald Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band the Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville sound recordings of the same era. Haggard's childhood was troubled after the death of his father, and he was incarcerated several times in his youth. He managed to turn his life around and launch a successful countr...

Heroes or rebels, they blazed a trail across the heartland of America. HELLS ANGELS FOREVER is a revealing ride into the worlds of honor, violence, and undying passion for motorcycles on the road. They began as a squadron of American daredevil bombers in World War II and were immediately branded by society as renegades. This is their film. Their lives. Their loves. Their deaths. In addition to brilliantly photographed motorcycle "runs" featuring scores of Hells Angels astride their classic Harley-Davidson choppers, this film includes extraordinary sequences never before included in a theatrical motion picture: the Club's famed New York Harbor Pir...

Here is a FULL EPISODE of late 90's series "the George Jones Show" from the former TNN network . I sure miss their programming!! This was episode 9 of the George Jones how, with guests Johnny Paycheck, Alan Jackson, and The Lynn's. This was filmed in 1998 (which doesn't seem all that long ago to me) But I guess it's already been 15 years!!! I claim no rights or ownership to the material. Original commercials intact! Narrated by Ed Bruce. If anyone associated with the former TNN network, or with any entertainer featured in these videos does not wish for me to display these videos on youtube for ANY reason, please contact me and I will remove the video without question! Since TNN no longer exists and this is for educational purposes only- I believe this constitutes a 'fair use' of any such...

*Trying to mess with the youtube app since I was out of town, somehow deleted it, here it is back up, had to wait until I got back from TN. Dearborn, Michigan Courtesy of Sony Music Special Product, All Others Courtesy of GML, Inc Art Direction Chuck Young" (off the back of the cassette case) The odd thing about this compilation cassette (there's also a common CD issue) is that it has something from the Epic label. Typically these compilation albums have either just Musicor, Mercury, or Starday (Starrite), in more common modern comp. albums (the ones at cheap gas stations or online, less common in music stores that have mainl...
George Jones At His Best "1988 HIGHLAND MUSIC INC. Dearborn, Michigan Courtesy of Sony Music Special Product, All Others Courtesy of GML, Inc Art Direction Chuck Young" (off the back of the cassette case) King KSC 380 This is the first pre-recorded cassette I bought while visiting family in Maine last year (2015), its by far my favorite tape, and its pretty damn good. It was really amazing seeing all the (real) country music that far north. *My amp at the time introduced a lot of noise, I changed that out, but I need to re-record it. Sony Music Entertainment owns all the rights.
Johnny Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and author. He was widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide.[3][4] Although primarily remembered as a country music icon, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of multiple inductions in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.

Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.
As I was motivatin' over the hill
I saw maybellene in a coup de ville.
A cadillac a-rollin' on the open road,
Nothin' will outrun my v8 ford.
The cadillac doin' 'bout ninety-five,
She's bumper to bumber rollin' side by side.
Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.
Pink in the mirror on top of the hill,
It's just like swallowin' up a medicine pill.
First thing I saw that cadillac grille
Doin' a hundred and ten gallopin' over that hill.
Offhill curve, a downhill strecth,
Me and that cadillac neck by neck.
Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.
The cadillac pulled up ahead of the ford,
The ford got hot and wouldn't do no more.
It then got clody and it started to rain,
I tooted my horn for a passin' lead
The rain water blowin' all under my hood,
I knew that was doin' my motor good.
Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.
The motor cooled down, the heat went down
And that's when I heard that highway sound.
The cadillac a-sittin' like a ton of lead
A hundred and ten a half a mile ahead.
The cadillac lookin' like it's sittin' still
And I caught maybellene at the top of the hill.
Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.
