Atlanta is one of the most culturally & historically rich cities in the United States. From it's impact on civil rights history to it's present day dominance over Hip Hop, Atlanta's influence is felt. In this episode of Streets by VICE, we'll be traveling along Ponce de Leon Ave. Although it's not that long of a street many Atlanta residents consider Ponce to be the heart of Atlanta. The street houses many of the city's most iconic landmarks, and passes alongside it's most notable neighborhoods. During our travels on Ponce we'll meet everyone from civil rights leader, to street artists, to councilman, to some of the most influential hip hop producers in the game, as they educate us about their Atlanta.

Atlanta
Atlanta is the capital of and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia, with an estimated 2013 population of 447,841. Atlanta is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to 5,522,942 people and the ninth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tornadoes are rare in the city itself, though twisters such as the March 15, 2008 EF2 tornado damaged prominent structures in downtown Atlanta. Most of Atlanta was burned during the Civil War, depleting the city of a large stock of its historic architecture. Yet architecturally, the city had never been particularly "southern" because Atlanta originated as a railroad town, rather than a patrician southern seaport like Savannah or Charleston, many of the city's landmarks could have easily been erected in the Northeast or Midwest. During the Cold War era, Atlanta embraced global modernist trends, especially regarding commercial and institutional architecture. Examples of modernist architecture include the Westin Peachtree Plaza (1976), Georgia-Pacific Tower (1982), the State of Georgia Building (1966), and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis (1985). In the latter half of the 1980s, Atlanta became one of the early adopters of postmodern designs that reintroduced classical elements to the cityscape.

Dr. Nhung Brandenburg received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in 1997, where she graduated magna cum laude, and her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Florida. After graduation, she joined a surgical practice where she managed a variety of ocular diseases and provided pre and post-operative care for cataract, glaucoma, and refractive surgery patients. Dr. Brandenburg has extensive experience in the treatment of eye disease, red eyes, injuries and specialty contact lenses (including hard-to-fit bifocal and corneal refractive therapy).
Excerpts from a video testimony of her experiences with Kangen ionized water.
When Dr Nhung first tried the Kangen ionized water, she did so because of her husband’s health problems. He suffered from severe Migraine headaches, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and acid reflux. After a month on the Kangen ionized water, he went to his doctor for a check up and found that he had lost weight, his cholesterol numbers were lower, and his blood pressure was down almost 50 points. He also had no more problems with acid reflux and migraine headaches.
Dr. Nhung said she was already very healthy, but after drinking the Kangen water her energy levels improved greatly and helped her at work with her demanding schedule and being constantly on her feet going from room to room to see her patients.
Dr Nhung sees patients of all ages who have diabetes and high blood pressure. Because of the diabetes they need to have medical eye exams to check on signs of bleeding and leakage in the back of the eye. She said that her patients who drank the Kangen ionized water saw reduced blood sugar levels after only 2 weeks and some it took 2 months. Their doctors reduced their insulin because of that. These patients saw less signs of day-to-day fluctuating vision and their night vision was improved. She said that overall their vision was more stable from day to day.
Dr Nhung also believes the Kangen ionized water can help eye health in many other ways because of its unique properties to eliminate waste, enhance metabolism and hydrate the eye.
She says: “ Kangen waters unique properties is a huge enhancement to eye health. Especially with dry eyes, Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma.
Dry eye patients reported a reduced need for artificial tears or prescribed medications for dry eyes when they drank the Kangen ionized water. Also, stys were resolved quickly when using the Kangen strong acidic 2.5 pH water in the eye. Stys and eye inflammation can be a problem in Atlanta related pollen.”
(My Note: I personally have used the 2.5 pH Kangen ionized water in my eyes when I had pink eye and it took care of it in less than 24 hours because it has the ability to kill all bacteria, fungus and virus on contact. See Kill Chart attached).

The center part of the eye breaks down as we age and cannot remove waste products well; these wastes sit on the retina and cause bleeding, scar formation and potential blind spots and central blindness. Research has proven that people with Macular Degeneration can stabilize or slow down this disease with antioxidants and may not lose their vision. Because Kangen ionized water has around 8 to 10 times more antioxidant value than most it can be used as an adjunct to increase antioxidant levels and help eliminate waste from the macula and can potentially improves the vision of someone with Macular Degeneration.”

University of Oklahoma professor, David Ray, asks what is a college education? Does everyone need one? David Ray joined the OU faculty in 1992, after teaching for 14 years at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, and before that 3 years at Boston College. BREAKING: Students Reclaim and Occupy Georgia Board of Regents to Hold Hearing on Admissions Bans on Undocumented Students!
On Tuesday, May 10, 2016, undocumented students from Freedom University and student representatives from universities throughout Georgia disrupted a public meeting by the Georgia Board of Regents in an act of civil disobedience against the Board’s restrictive policies against undocumented students! The students proceeded with an alternative meeting led by student board members to hear testimonies by expert witnesses on the economic, social, and political impact of Policies 4.1.6 and 4.3.4.
In 2010, the Georgia Board of Regents, the governing body of the University System of Georgia, passed Policy 4.1.6 and Policy 4.3.4, which ban undocumented students from admission to the state’s top five public universities and prohibit them from qualifying for in-state tuition. Georgia is one of only three states in the country – including Alabama and South Carolina – to institute an admissions ban against undocumented students in public higher education. Georgia is the only state to uphold restrictive admissions policies against immigrant students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a federal program that grants legal presence to immigrant youth who meet specific residency and education requirements.
The alternative board meeting was recorded and streamed live on the “Freedom U. Georgia” Facebook page. Expert witnesses included Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort, Azadeh Shahshahani, Legal and Advocacy Director at Project South, and Salvador Alvarado, an undocumented student leader from Georgia. The student board members included four undocumented students from Freedom University, and documented student representatives from Georgia State University and Emory University. Based on expert testimonies, the student-led Board of Regents ruled in opposition to Policy 4.1.6 and Policy 4.3.4.
Susana Ramirez, a Freedom University student, served as the student-appointed Chancellor of the Board of Regents. “Students are here today to help the Board of Regents fulfill its mission of creating ‘a more educated Georgia,’” Ramirez says. “We are holding a hearing to present the public with the facts of the admissions bans, and to initiate public discussion on the moral implications and economic impact of modern segregation in higher education in Georgia.”
Dr. Laura Emiko Soltis, the Executive Director of Freedom University, says the courage of the students is inspiring. “Students are essentially schooling the Georgia Board of Regents,” she says. “They are sending a powerful message that undocumented students know their history and they know their human rights. In Georgia, we have a situation where thousands of DACA recipients, who are overwhelmingly people of color, can legally drive to low-wage jobs but be denied the right to education and the right to vote. This is a new variation of an old system in the South, and the students know this. They know that the same universities that ban undocumented students today banned Black students in 1960. Most importantly, they know that students defeated educational segregation then and students will defeat it now.”
Asma Elhuni, a student participant who attends Georgia State University, says, “I am one of thousands of students enrolled in Georgia public universities who oppose the admissions bans. Undocumented students are absent from our college classrooms, not because of their academic merit, but because of where they were born. They pay taxes. They are our neighbors. This ban only functions to punish young people. But students are united: to attack one group of students is to attack all of us. We will continue to fight for equal access to education until we win.”
The student-led Board of Regents announced a nationwide economic boycott of the state of Georgia at the conclusion of its hearing. Soon afterward, Georgia Capitol Police arrested seven students on charges of criminal trespassing, disruption of general assembly sessions, and obstructing law enforcement officers. They spent 12 hours in Fulton County Jail and were released on bond.
