Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of gravitational forces exerted by the Moon, Sun, and rotation of the Earth.
The times and amplitude of tides at a locale are influenced by the alignment of the Sun and Moon, by the pattern of tides in the deep ocean, by the amphidromic systems of the oceans, and the shape of the coastline and near-shore bathymetry (see Timing). Some shorelines experience a semi-diurnal tide - two nearly equal high and low tides each day. Other locations experience a diurnal tide - only one high and low tide each day. A "mixed tide"; two uneven tides a day, or one high and one low, is also possible.
Tides vary on timescales ranging from hours to years due to a number of factors. To make accurate records, tide gauges at fixed stations measure the water level over time. Gauges ignore variations caused by waves with periods shorter than minutes. These data are compared to the reference (or datum) level usually called mean sea level.
High tide is a state of tide.
High tide or High Tide may also refer to:
Saint-Michel is the name or part of the name of many places. Michel is French for Michael, and in most cases, these placenames refer to Michael (archangel).
Le Mont-Saint-Michel (pronounced: [lə mɔ̃ sɛ̃ mi.ʃɛl]; English: Saint Michael's Mount) is an island commune in Normandy, France. It is located about one kilometre (0.6 miles) off the country's northwestern coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. 100 hectares (247 acres) in size, the island has a population of 44 (2009).
The island has held strategic fortifications since ancient times and since the 8th century AD has been the seat of the monastery from which it draws its name. The structural composition of the town exemplifies the feudal society that constructed it: on top, God, the abbey and monastery; below, the great halls; then stores and housing; and at the bottom, outside the walls, houses for fishermen and farmers.
Its unique position — on an island just 600 metres from land — made it accessible at low tide to the many pilgrims to its abbey, but defensible as an incoming tide stranded, drove off, or drowned, would-be assailants. The Mont remained unconquered during the Hundred Years' War; a small garrison fended off a full attack by the English in 1433. The reverse benefits of its natural defence were not lost on Louis XI, who turned the Mont into a prison. Thereafter the abbey began to be used more regularly as a jail during the Ancien Régime.

St Andrews (Latin: S. Andrea(s);Scots: Saunt Aundraes;Scottish Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) is a former royal burgh on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Dundee and 30 miles (50 km) northeast of Edinburgh. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town's population. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making it the fifth largest settlement in Fife.
The town is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. There has been an important church in St Andrews since at least the 8th century, and a bishopric since at least the 11th century. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews cathedral with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins.

Over twenty times a year, there is an amazing natural show as exceptionally high tides totally surround the Mont-Saint-Michel. A real sight to behold! http://bitly.com/VisitMontSaintMichel
A supertide has turned France’s famed Mont Saint-Michel into an island and then retreated out of sight, delighting thousands of visitors who came to see the rare phenomenon. The so-called “tide of the century” actually happens every 18 years. Although the tide rushes in and out along the whole northern French coast, it's especially dramatic at the UNESCO world heritage site, which is normally linked to the mainland only by a narrow causeway at high tide. The high tide, said to rise at the pace of a horse's gallop, turned the Mont briefly into an island Saturday, while the day's low tide allowed people to walk on the expansive flat seabed. Tidal specialist Nicolas Pouvreau told France 24 the surge was a few inches short of expectations. http://feeds.foxnews.com/~r/foxnews/world/~3/gP2Ubk0H...
Mont Saint-Michel emerges from the tides in Normandy, France, like an ancient village from a fairytale. The coastal town built on a massive granite rock cuts a dramatic silhouette against the sky, rising from disappearing marshes to a Gothic Abbey at its height. With a permanent population of around 50, this popular tourist destination has a history dating back to at least the Roman era. Fancy a tour before the tides roll in? Timelapse of the tide coming in and the people watching at Lindisfarne (Holy Island) Causeway. Taken on Easter Sunday - April 5th 2015 8fps playback - Mostly taken at 1 frame every 3 seconds.
This happens in Guernsey about once a year. We have one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, 30 feet or 10 metres. The high tide on this day was 10.1m and the low tide was 0.5m above chart datum. Luckily for the shops opposite the Victoria Marina there was a high pressure weather system over us at the time, because otherwise the shops and the road would normally get flooded out with sea water at this tide height.

Mont Saint-Michel lies on an approx. 100 m high rock in the middle of the mudflats of the Normandy. At low tide one could reach it dry-shod, at high tide it forms an island. The magnificent architecture of its cloister appears in most different facets depending on position of the sun and weather. The interplay of light and shadow of the passing clouds let it appear in different colors and cause completely contrasting atmospheres. Beginning of the 8th century, Aubert of Avranches built a first monastic establishment on the rock. During the Viking attacks, the island which withstood as a bulwark at the border between Normans and Brittany, was left to the Bretons, after the Normans had taken the peninsula Cotentin. A first church was built and the island was expanded fortress-like. In 965, t...

Hi and thanks for watching this was a trip I've been hoping to do for a while. wild camping on the east coast of the British isles just the wash a place make up a mostly sand dunes and salt mash has its challengers. There are ways to live out there and there is food to be had from the sea and the land. For this trip I had planed on catch fish which didn't go to well. All the shore crab I saw were fare too small to bother with I saw lots of razor clam shells on the high tide line up in this area they tent to be out past the low tide mark so they was off the menu. I id see lots of rabbits but because I cant carry a gun around with me there rabbit was off the menu as well. But if I was in a really survival situation I could have easterly made a snare using the 20bl line from my fishing rod. ...

It's getting hotter tonight,
We're riding high on wishing well time,
All in all we know the way it goes
When the fire comes alive.
But sailing into the night
I hear the waves below me cry
To look out below fo most of those
Who have sailed The Channel die
Throw back the staves we started,
Go back, the waves are calling me
To break myself free,
Roll back the maze we charted,
Hold back, the waves are warning me
It's high tide; this charade is over,
Too many lovers have been crossed in your wake,
No fine line stopped you stepping over,
Now any words I had to say
Are lost to the waves
For every light in the sky
There is a diamond set in your eyes,
As they shine, they glow, beguile me so
That they cannot be denied,
But you're a dangerous game,
I'm reaching out to touch the flame,
Though my fingers burnt, I never learnt,
I just could not turn away
Throw back the staves we started,
Go back, the waves are calling me
To break myself free,
Roll back the maze we charted,
Hold back, the waves are warning me
It's high tide; this charade is over,
Too many lovers have been crossed in your wake,
No fine line stopped you stepping over,
Now any words I had to say
