Duran Duran (1981 album)

Duran Duran is the debut album by the English pop rock band Duran Duran, released worldwide on EMI Records on 15 June 1981.

The album reached No. 3 on the United Kingdom charts and remained in the UK Top 100 for 117 weeks, achieving platinum status by December 1982. The initial United States release was unsuccessful, but the album was reissued there in 1983 following the success of the band's second album, Rio. This time it reached No. 10 on the US Billboard 200, and remained on that chart for 87 weeks. Duran Duran was certified platinum (a shipment of one million units) by the RIAA in June 1985.

Production

The band wrote and recorded demos for the album at AIR Studios in 1980, while one of their main influences, the band Japan, was recording the Gentlemen Take Polaroids album just down the hall.

The album was formally recorded in December 1980 at various recording studios in London (as well as Chipping Norton Studios) with record producer Colin Thurston, shortly after Duran Duran signed their record deal with EMI. In interviews, the band has recalled the struggle to continue recording after hearing of the murder of John Lennon on 8 December.

Anyone

Anyone is a band from Southern California that formed in 1995. Their 2001 self-titled album was released on Roadrunner Records. The band are credited with creating the genre known as "maximum acid", combining a heavy metal sound with psychedelic rock influences. Anyone is the brainchild of Riz Story, the band's lead singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, and also the only member of the band that has remained since its inception.

ANYONE received much critical acclaim for its label debut throughout the international press, especially in Europe. The band toured extensively on the album, notably at the Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and Lowland Festival as well as 3 American tours. The album received many honors including being named #9 on the metal hammer year end chart for Metal Hammer's Albums Of 2001 list.[3] Other awards include "best band" Los Angeles Music Awards.

History

The group was preceded by the band SYLVIA, consisting of Story, drummer Taylor Hawkins, guitarist Sean Murphy and Jon "Juano" Davison (YES, Glass Hammer) which dissolved when Hawkins joined Alanis Morissette's band (and later Foo Fighters), and Murphy began to work with bands Magdalen and Divinorum, besides his solo career. This led to Story's formation of Anyone in 1995, him being joined by bassist "Static" and drummer Dave "Nipples" Murray.

Fox Stevenson

–Stanley Stevenson Byrne, better known by his stage name Fox Stevenson (formerly Stan SB), is an English singer-songwriter and producer of indie electronic dance music. He has released five EPs under Fox Stevenson, one under Stan SB, and has been featured on three compilations under the name of Fox Stevenson.

Career

Stevenson's interest in electronic music production began in the early 2000s, when he made his first release on the website Newgrounds. He was 15–16 years old when he created his first vocal track. He later rose to prominence through the YouTube-based music community Liquicity, where Cloudhead, one of his earliest tracks as Stan SB, was featured.

His works are also published to the audio distribution platform SoundCloud, where he has accumulated over 1.5 million plays since 2012. In 2013, he released an EP titled Endless, the title track of which has since gained over 500,000 plays on SoundCloud. In 2014, he announced the launch of his own record label, Cloudhead Records, under which he released an EP titled All This Time in the same year. In July 2014, Stevenson released Throwdown, an EP accompanied by a live online premiere. In August 2015, he released a single with Curbi titled Hoohah. In September of the same year, he released an EP titled Free Stuff that was distributed free of charge and which was followed shortly by the release of the single Comeback.

Delta Rae

Delta Rae /ˈdɛltə reɪ/ is an American folk rock band formed in Durham, North Carolina. The band consists of three siblings Ian Hölljes (vocals and guitar), Eric Hölljes (vocals, guitar, piano and keys) and Brittany Hölljes (vocals), as well as Elizabeth Hopkins (vocals), Mike McKee (percussion) and Grant Emerson (bass guitar). They began as a four-piece ensemble and added McKee and Emerson to the dynamic in 2010. Their name hails from a fictional story the Hölljeses' mother intended to write about a Southern girl named Delta Rae who summons the Greek gods to earth.

History

The band debuted at Duke University in October 2009. Ian graduated from Duke in 2007, Eric graduated from Duke in 2009, and Brittany graduated early from University of California, Berkeley.

Their self-titled debut EP was released in 2010, after which they signed to Sire Records in 2012. Their debut album Carry the Fire was released on June 19, 2012. It included the singles "Morning Comes", "Dance in the Graveyards" and "Bottom of the River" which received airplay on VH1.
