Mum's search for father of her daughter goes viral

Kerryn-Leigh met an Australian named Rodney in Queenstown and nine months later she gave birth to their daughter without his knowledge.

She hoped her daughter, who was about to celebrate her 13th birthday, might finally know her father.

A Facebook post by Kerryn-Leigh, who wanted to keep her family name private, was shared more than 13,000 times and and made international headlines.

However, no Rodney came forward.

Kerryn-Leigh said dozens of people had suggestions about who the mystery man was, but she "didn't want to be hunting anybody down".

"If he wanted to come forward he would have," she said.

Kerryn-Leigh said there had been three Rodneys put forward who looked promising.

"There is no doubt in my mind he saw the post and heard about it. I know we probably found Rodney, but he has chosen to not come forward and we are fine with that," she said.

"He might have children or be married. We never wanted it to badly effect anyone."

Kerryn-Leigh said her daughter was not upset they had not found her father.

"I never would have posted on Facebook if I had thought she might have been disappointed if we didn't find him," she said.

"We have a very stable life and she has a life full of love so no she wasn't disappointed. She wanted to find him but she always knew the likelihood was that we wouldn't."

Kerryn-Leigh said she was living in Queenstown at the time she met Rodney and worked at the Brazz on the Green steakhouse.

He was in the resort town on a three-day snowboarding trip with two friends named John.

Rodney had recently broken up with his partner, who he had a two-year-old daughter with, and was feeling a bit down.

"Two broken people got together one night", Kerryn-Leigh said.

She gave birth to their daughter a few weeks before her 40th birthday, but with only a first name she gave up on looking for Rodney.

Kerryn-Leigh said she felt she did the right thing posting on Facebook.

"I've done my duty to my daughter in trying to find her dad," she said.

"We have no problem if he doesn't want to be found. But if and when he does then that is fine too."
