Olympia Warriors made it third time lucky tonight when they beat Glenorchy Knights 3-1 at home in their third outing at Warrior Park, their new ground with the artificial pitch.
But, it came at a price. Young defender Jayden Hey was taken off on a stretcher after suffering a broken ankle.
Hey had gone into the game after receiving physiotherapy on Friday because of a leg injury.
The Knights' Corey Smith was also substituted after suffering a knee injury. He had an ice pack strapped to his knee and was back on his feet after the match.
The Knights finished the match with just nine players. Alex Holmes had been sent off five minutes before the break for a professional foul on Adam Hedge when Olympia were leading 2-1, and Brendan Garth limped off with just a few minutes remaining but could not be replaced because all the substitutes had been used.
Olympia desperately needed to win this match and they led 2-0 after just 9 minutes.
A terrible error by goalkeeper Ben Peter gifted Hedge the opener in the 4th minute. Peter tried to clear but mis-timed his kick and gave the ball to Hedge, who gleefully tapped it home.
In the 9th minute, Peter punched a corner straight down to Lee Mason, who lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net to make it 2-0.

The Knights pulled a goal back in the 16th minute through Frenchman Mathieu Gregoire, who latched onto a pass on the edge of the box, turned, and beat Dmitri Nester with a low drive inside the keeper's right-hand post.
Peter redeemed himself in stoppage time when he pulled off three incredible saves in as many seconds from Warren Wadawu, who should really have scored but somehow failed to connect with the ball properly from close range as Peter blocked and the ball rebounded to the striker each time.
Smith was replaced by Matthew Nowicki just two minutes into the second half, but he found the going tough against a resolute Olympia defence. Nowicki missed a glorious chance in the 55th minute when Callan Griffin released Garth down the right and he crossed the ball into the middle. Nowicki met the ball with full force but ballooned it over the bar.

Andrew Robb fired narrowly wide in the 61st minute just to show that the Knights may have been wounded but were still dangerous.
Peter denied Wadawu again with his feet in the 62nd minute, while seconds later, Robb forced Nester to save and concede a corner.
Olympia cleared the corner and counter-attacked, but there was Peter again to foil Wadawu with his feet.
Wadawu went close in the 67th minute when he curled a low drive just wide of the far right-hand post.
Hey had just been replaced by Andrew Reason when Nektar Vavoulas netted Olympia's third in the 73rd minute with a deft left-foot chip from the left, the ball sailing over Peter at the near post and dropping just inside the far post.
Olympia had a couple more chances in the closing minutes, but 3-1 was good enough on the night to break their losing streak and register their first points of the season, which put them off the foot of the ladder and into 5th place.

Kingborough Lions United deserved to win this game purely on the chances.And, they also had cause to question some key decisions that went against them.For example, in the 79th minute, the Zebras last defender, Ryan Smith, ppeared to foul Joel Schuth just outside the box as the Kingborough player raced for goal. Mr Collins waved play on when a red card seemed warranted for Smith.
And, in the last minute, Zebras goalkeeper, Troy Kaden, dropped a cross from the left by Schuth and Brett Andrews fired the ball into the net, but Mr Collins had already blown his whistle for a foul on the keeper.
It seemed as if Kaden may have collided with a team-mate, but in any case, no goal was awarded and Kaden took the free-kick.No wonder Kingborough coach Geoff Freeman had a wry smile on his face when interviewed after the match.Zebras coach, Romeo Frediani, when asked to comment on the foul on Schuth and the play-on decision, said that Schuths legs were left behind after the incident.

Telega had a marvellous game for Zebras, saving his side on several occasions with timely interventions and also going close to scoring with a couple of headers from set-pieces.
The second half was a mere five minutes old when Kingboroughs Ryan Bevan shot narrowly past the left-hand post.In the 62nd minute, a free-kick by Hinkley found Andrew Davies, who headed tamely at goal when he should have worked the keeper.
Seven minutes later, Bevan headed straight at Kaden following Schuths free-kick.

Alex Holmes had been sent off five minutes before the break for a professional foul on Adam Hedge when Olympia were leading 2-1, and Brendan Garth limped off with just a few minutes remaining but could not be replaced because all the substitutes had been used.
Olympia desperately needed to win this match and they led 2-0 after just 9 minutes.
A terrible error by goalkeeper Ben Peter gifted Hedge the opener in the 4th minute. Peter tried to clear but mis-timed his kick and gave the ball to Hedge, who gleefully tapped it home.
In the 9th minute, Peter punched a corner straight down to Lee Mason, who lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net to make it 2-0.

The Knights pulled a goal back in the 16th minute through Frenchman Mathieu Gregoire, who latched onto a pass on the edge of the box, turned, and beat Dmitri Nester with a low drive inside the keeper's right-hand post.
Peter redeemed himself in stoppage time when he pulled off three incredible saves in as many seconds from Warren Wadawu, who should really have scored but somehow failed to connect with the ball properly from close range as Peter blocked and the ball rebounded to the striker each time.
Smith was replaced by Matthew Nowicki just two minutes into the second half, but he found the going tough against a resolute Olympia defence. Nowicki missed a glorious chance in the 55th minute when Callan Griffin released Garth down the right and he crossed the ball into the middle. Nowicki met the ball with full force but ballooned it over the bar.

Andrew Robb fired narrowly wide in the 61st minute just to show that the Knights may have been wounded but were still dangerous.
Peter denied Wadawu again with his feet in the 62nd minute, while seconds later, Robb forced Nester to save and concede a corner.
Olympia cleared the corner and counter-attacked, but there was Peter again to foil Wadawu with his feet.
Wadawu went close in the 67th minute when he curled a low drive just wide of the far right-hand post.
Hey had just been replaced by Andrew Reason when Nektar Vavoulas netted Olympia's third in the 73rd minute with a deft left-foot chip from the left, the ball sailing over Peter at the near post and dropping just inside the far post.
Olympia had a couple more chances in the closing minutes, but 3-1 was good enough on the night to break their losing streak and register their first points of the season, which put them off the foot of the ladder and into 5th place.

And, in the last minute, Zebras goalkeeper, Troy Kaden, dropped a cross from the left by Schuth and Brett Andrews fired the ball into the net, but Mr Collins had already blown his whistle for a foul on the keeper.
It seemed as if Kaden may have collided with a team-mate, but in any case, no goal was awarded and Kaden took the free-kick.No wonder Kingborough coach Geoff Freeman had a wry smile on his face when interviewed after the match.Zebras coach, Romeo Frediani, when asked to comment on the foul on Schuth and the play-on decision, said that Schuths legs were left behind after the incident.

Ross Hinkley almost added a second for the visitors in the 8th minute, but his powerful shot was directed straight at Kaden.Zebras drew level in the 12th minute after splendid work down the right by Daniel Lapolla, who rode a heavy tackle and stayed on his feet before squaring the ball inside for his captain, Andrew Telega, to shoot past keeper David Leamey.
Telega had a marvellous game for Zebras, saving his side on several occasions with timely interventions and also going close to scoring with a couple of headers from set-pieces.
