Uwe Schmidt is one of the most prolific contemporary electronic musicians of our era, with over 200 releases produced under a dizzying array of aliases. Perhaps his most well known and celebrated project is Señor Coconut, of "Cha cha cha" Kraftwerk cover fame. We've heard many dozens of Uwe's releases and consider more than a few of them to be Bunker classics that are in constant rotation at both our house and on our dancefloor.
When we first heard his compilation of tunes organized as a satirical history of acid house released under the Atom™ moniker - “Acid Evolution 1988-2003”, we started hounding Uwe about performing this material live at The Bunker. We eventually got him to perform an improvised live hardware set with Tobias, then were lucky enough to have him perform his A/V set for us, and most recently were treated to a solo techno set of the Ground Loop material just last year.
We asked Uwe to flesh out a few of the clips he’d put online of Ground Loop material with a view to releasing a record for The Bunker and two days later these two monsters landed in our inbox. Two brand new Atom™ dancefloor acid explosions that stand alongside the best of his work. Enjoy!

Q: What is thorium and what makes it special?
A: Thorium is a naturally-occuring mineral that holds large amounts of releasable nuclear energy, similar to uranium. This nuclear energy can be released in a special nuclear reactor designed to use thorium. Thorium is special because it is easier to extract this energy completely than uranium due to some of the chemical and nuclear properties of thorium.
Q: What is a liquid-fluoride reactor?
A: A liquid-fluoride nuclear reactor is different than conventional nuclear reactors that use solid fuel elements. A liquid-fluoride reactor uses a solution of several fluoride salts, typically lithium fluoride, beryllium fluoride, and uranium tetrafluoride, as its basic nuclear fuel. The fluoride salts have a number of advantages over solid fuels. They are impervious to radiation damage, they can be chemically processed in the form that they are in, and they have a high capacity to hold thermal energy (heat). Additional nuclear fuel can be added or withdrawn from the salt solution during normal operation.
Q: Are the salts safe?
A: Very safe. Unlike other coolants considered for high-performance reactors (like liquid sodium) the salts will not react dangerously with air or water. This is because they are already in their most stable chemical form. Their properties do not change even under intense radiation, unlike all solid forms of nuclear fuel.
Q: What is nuclear waste and how does a liquid-fluoride reactor address this issue?
A: So-called "nuclear waste" or spent-nuclear fuel is produced in conventional (solid-core) nuclear reactors because they are unable to extract all of the nuclear energy from their fuel before they have to shutdown. LFTR addresses this issue by using a form of nuclear fuel (liquid-fluoride salts of thorium) that allow complete extraction of nuclear energy from the fuel.

This video was only meant to be about application performance, but I continued right on into application usability with fingers and a capacitive stylus, and end the video discussing the effectiveness of Windows interface scaling.
Sorry about the audio clipping in my vids! I will invest in a decent camera a mic shortly.
Programs loaded up include Xara Designer Pro X, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Propellerhead Reason 5 and the game Age of Kings.
The results are interesting and not entirely as I had hoped. It does however nail down exactly what you can expect to achieve with a device like this.

Acid
An acid (from the Latin acidus/acēre meaning sour) is a chemical substance whose aqueous solutions are characterized by a sour taste, the ability to turn blue litmus red, and the ability to react with bases and certain metals (like calcium) to form salts. An aqueous solution of an acid has a pH of less than 7 and is colloquially also referred to as 'acid' (as in 'dissolved in acid'), while the strict definition refers only to the solute. An acid usually contains a hydrogen atom bonded to a chemical structure that is still energetically favorable after loss of H+ (a positive hydrogen ion or proton). A lower pH means a higher acidity, and thus a higher concentration of positive hydrogen ions in the solution. Chemicals or substances having the property of an acid are said to be acidic.
There are three common definitions for acids: the Arrhenius definition, the Brønsted-Lowry definition, and the Lewis definition. The Arrhenius definition defines acids as substances which increase the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+), or more accurately, hydronium ions (H3O+), when dissolved in water. The Brønsted-Lowry definition is an expansion to include solvents other than water: an acid is a substance which can act as a proton donor. By this definition, any compound which can be deprotonated can be considered an acid. Examples include alcohols and amines which contain O-H or N-H fragments. A Lewis acid is a substance that can accept a pair of electrons to form a covalent bond. Examples of Lewis acids include all metal cations, and electron-deficient molecules such as boron trifluoride and aluminium trichloride.

Atom
An atom is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties of a chemical element. Every solid, liquid, gas, and plasma is composed of neutral or ionized atoms. Atoms are very small; typical sizes are around 100 pm (a ten-billionth of a meter, in the short scale). However, atoms do not have well-defined boundaries, and there are different ways to define their size that give different but close values.
Atoms are small enough that classical physics gives noticeably incorrect results. Through the development of physics, atomic models have incorporated quantum principles to better explain and predict the behavior.
Every atom is composed of a nucleus and one or more electrons bound to the nucleus. The nucleus is made of one or more protons and typically a similar number of neutrons (none in hydrogen-1). Protons and neutrons are called nucleons. More than 99.94% of an atom's mass is in the nucleus. The protons have a positive electric charge, the electrons have a negative electric charge, and the neutrons have no electric charge. If the number of protons and electrons are equal, that atom is electrically neutral. If an atom has more or fewer electrons than protons, then it has an overall negative or positive charge, respectively, and it is called an ion.

Flibe Energy is an American company that intends to design, construct and operate small modular reactors based on liquid fluoride thorium reactor (acronym LFTR; pronounced lifter) technology.
Corporation
Flibe Energy was founded on April 6, 2011 by Kirk Sorensen, former NASA aerospace engineer and formerly chief nuclear technologist at Teledyne Brown Engineering, and Kirk Dorius, an intellectual property attorney and mechanical engineer. Ostgut Ton (also known as Ostgut Tonträger) is the label owned by the club Berghain in Berlin. Jenus Baumecker-Kahmke is the label manager.
The label's first releases were by Berghain/Panorama Bar residents such as André Galluzzi, Cassy, and Ben Klock.

This video was only meant to be about application performance, but I continued right on into application usability with fingers and a capacitive stylus, and end the video discussing the effectiveness of Windows interface scaling. Sorry about the audio clipping in my vids! I will invest in a decent camera a mic shortly. Programs loaded up include Xara Designer Pro X, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Propellerhead Reason 5 and the game Age of Kings. The results are interesting and not entirely as I had hoped. It does however nail down exactly what you can expect to achieve with a device like this. We eventually got him to perform an improvised live hardware set with Tobias, then were lucky enough to have him perform his A/V set for us, and most recently were treated to a solo techno set of the Ground Loop material just last year.
We asked Uwe to flesh out a few of the clips he’d put online of Ground Loop material with a view to releasing a record for The Bunker and two days later these two monsters landed in our inbox. Two brand new Atom™ dancefloor acid explosions that stand alongside the best of his work. Enjoy!

A liquid-fluoride reactor uses a solution of several fluoride salts, typically lithium fluoride, beryllium fluoride, and uranium tetrafluoride, as its basic nuclear fuel. The fluoride salts have a number of advantages over solid fuels. They are impervious to radiation damage, they can be chemically processed in the form that they are in, and they have a high capacity to hold thermal energy (heat). Additional nuclear fuel can be added or withdrawn from the salt solution during normal operation.
Q: Are the salts safe?
A: Very safe. Unlike other coolants considered for high-performance reactors (like liquid sodium) the salts will not react dangerously with air or water. This is because they are already in their most stable chemical form. Their properties do not change even under intense radiation, unlike all solid forms of nuclear fuel.
Q: What is nuclear waste and how does a liquid-fluoride reactor address this issue?
A: So-called "nuclear waste" or spent-nuclear fuel is produced in conventional (solid-core) nuclear reactors because they are unable to extract all of the nuclear energy from their fuel before they have to shutdown. LFTR addresses this issue by using a form of nuclear fuel (liquid-fluoride salts of thorium) that allow complete extraction of nuclear energy from the fuel.

This video was only meant to be about application performance, but I continued right on into application usability with fingers and a capacitive stylus, and end the video discussing the effectiveness of Windows interface scaling.
Sorry about the audio clipping in my vids! I will invest in a decent camera a mic shortly.
Programs loaded up include Xara Designer Pro X, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Propellerhead Reason 5 and the game Age of Kings.
The results are interesting and not entirely as I had hoped. It does however nail down exactly what you can expect to achieve with a device like this.

Their SSR debut was the critically acclaimed The Longer the Beard the Harder the Sound released back in 2013. On Feb. 6, 2016, they issued the follow-up, Sermonize, recorded by Mattia Cominotto at Greenfog in Genova with cover art by Richey Beckett.
Isaak’s brand of heavy rock blends the traditional guitar/bass/drum/vocal approach with their own special brew of crazy stoner impulses, inspired by the likes of Clutch, Orange Goblin, and Torche.
Small Stone releases Sermonize on CD in partnership with Heavy Psych Sounds Records, who handled the 180g LP version. With these powerhouses behind them, Isaak are ready to bring their Heavy Rockness all around Europe.
Long regarded as a rising force within Italy’s underground stoner rock scene, where they were previously known as Gandhi’s Gunn, they released their debut album, Thirtyyeahs, in 2010 through Taxi Driver Records. After The Longer the Beard the Harder the Sound, Isaak issued a split with Mos Generator early in 2015, and with Sermonize, they make their defining statement in heavy riffs, wide open spaces, and crushing groove.
Parting ways with bassist Massimo Perasso after the recording of Sermonize, Isaak is now vocalist Giacomo H. Boeddu, guitarist Francesco Raimondi, drummer/vocalist Andrea Tabbi de Bernardi and bassist Gabriele Carta.
The band toured extensively for the last album, playing with international luminaries such as Church of Misery (Japan), Los Natas (Argentina), Nadja (Canada) and Amenra (Belgium), and a slew of US-based concerns, including Acid King, Atomic Bitchwax, Big Business, -(16)-, Unsane and Clutch, and they’ll look to preach for Sermonize on stages all throughout 2016 and beyond.
