In the “Best Student Cities 2015”
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7OOYKhFtB8) ranking of the world’s top-50 cities for students conducted by QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd., Kyoto jumped to 34th in the world, up from 50th in the previous year, indicating its great desirability as a learning environment.
Students can learn various fields: business, economics, IT, politics, engineering, medical science, arts, biotechnology and even manga, anime and Zen among 50 universities and colleges in and around the city.
Kyoto is the ancient imperial capital of Japan, and is recognized worldwide as the country’s historical, cultural and spiritual heart. Over 2,000 temples and shrines and numerous other architectural masterpieces are located here, including fourteen UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites.
Over 50 million travelers visit Kyoto every year to enjoy world-known sightseeing spots such as Golden Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Imperial Palace, Gion and so on.

A look through the newly built international student dormitory which sits on the Kyoto University main campus. A little on the expensive side compared to other Kyoto-Uni-run dorms, but definitely the cleanest and in my opinion the best overall due to its extremely convenient location.

Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra Ensemble plays a famous piece of music in their own way, in addition to a medley of old Japanese music reborn with a new face!
Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra was established in 1916, and is one of the most traditional orchestras in Japan. Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra has been holding concerts twice a year since its establishment, with this year’s being the 197th concert.
With a variety of guest conductors, and the characteristic uniqueness of an amateur orchestra, Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra strives every day with time and passion to achieve genuine, heartfelt music.

Kyoto University (京都大学, Kyōto daigaku?), or Kyodai (京大, Kyōdai?) is a national university located in Kyoto, Japan. It is the second oldest Japanese university,, one of the highest ranked universities in Asia and formerly one of Japan's Imperial Universities.
The forerunner of the Kyoto University was the Chemistry School (舎密局, Seimi-kyoku?) founded in Osaka in 1869, which, despite its name, taught physics as well. (舎密 is a transcription of a Dutch word chemie.) Later, the Third Higher School (第三髙等學校, Daisan-kōtō-gakkō?) was established in the place of Seimi-kyoku in 1886, it then transferred to the university's present main campus in the same year.
Kyoto Imperial University (京都帝國大學, Kyōto-teikoku-daigaku?) as a part of the Imperial University system was established on June 18, 1897, using the Third Higher School's buildings. The higher school moved to a patch of land just across the street, where the Yoshida South Campus stands today. In the same year of the university's establishment, the College of Science and Technology was founded. The College of Law and the College of Medicine were founded in 1899, the College of Letters in 1906, expanding the university's activities to areas outside natural science.

Kyoto (京都市, Kyōto-shi?, "Capital City") (Japanese pronunciation: [kʲoːto] (
listen)) is a city in the central part of the island of Honshū, Japan. It has a population close to 1.5 million. Formerly the imperial capital of Japan, it is now the capital of Kyoto Prefecture, as well as a major part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area.
Although archaeological evidence places the first human settlement on the islands of Japan to approximately 10,000 BC, relatively little is known about human activity in the area before the 6th century AD, around which time the Shimogamo Shrine is believed to have been established. During the 8th century, when powerful Buddhist clergy became involved in the affairs of the Imperial government, the Emperor chose to relocate the capital to a region far from the Buddhist influence. Emperor Kammu selected the village of Uda, at the time in the Kadono district of Yamashiro Province, for this honor.
The new city, Heian-kyō (平安京, "tranquility and peace capital"), a scaled replica of the then Tang capital Chang'an, became the seat of Japan's imperial court in 794, beginning the Heian period of Japanese history. Although military rulers established their governments either in Kyoto (Muromachi shogunate) or in other cities such as Kamakura (Kamakura shogunate) and Edo (Tokugawa shogunate), Kyoto remained Japan's capital until the transfer of the imperial court to Tokyo in 1869 at the time of the Imperial Restoration. (Some believe that it is still a legal capital: see Capital of Japan.)

Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra was established in 1916, and is one of the most traditional orchestras in Japan. Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra has been holding concerts twice a year since its establishment, with this year’s being the 197th concert.
With a variety of guest conductors, and the characteristic uniqueness of an amateur orchestra, Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra strives every day with time and passion to achieve genuine, heartfelt music.

Kyoto is known as a city that's especially friendly to foreign visitors and college students. Kyoto has 39 major colleges and universities. In this video clip Jeff takes us to a university located in the heart of the city, on Shijo Street, the broad "avenue" that runs east and west, from Yasaka Shrine to Matsuo Shrine. I finally got around to my footage from my 3-week study abroad trip to Japan during the summer with Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS)...and it's already winter. It's been long overdue since the time I've mentioned in June (or July? See, I don't even remember since it's been so long since my last update vlog). Well anyway, I sucked at vlogging and talking to a camera in public, so I kinda just took shots of things from my point of view instead of pointing the camera at my face. based traditional Japanese Koto player, Yumi Kurosawa. They dedicated
a collaborative performance exceeding genre, border and culture at
Kiyomizu-dera, the world heritage temple in Kyoto.
Listed as the world heritage, the history of Kiyomizu-dera goes back
more than 1200 years, and the temple is well-known for supporting
various kinds of art in the past. This exotic live performance took
place at night after closing doors to the public in 2015 August 2nd.
