MP3 is the most commonly used lossy audio data compression algorithm for digital music players and internet audio streaming. The main intention of using such algorithm is to reduce the data size while maintain the perceived audio quality.
The principle of MP3 coding scheme is based on psychoacoustic models. MP3 coding defines the amount of compression by using bit rate in term of kbps (kilo bits per seconds). The higher the bit rate would give less compression which in turn provides closer to original signal quality. On other hand, the higher bit rate would require storage space and longer time to transfer.
This video uses only portion of available bit rates defined by MP3 standard to demonstrate the differences in audio quality and file sizes.

Just bought an iPhone 6S and noticed electrical buzzing noise from the headphone output on highly sensitive, low impedance earphones.
Since uploading this video, I've done some more testing. Here are the earphones I own which pick up the buzzing on the iPhone 6S distinctly. They're listed with impedance and sensitivity figures as a guide.)
- Audio Technica ATH-IM02 (36 ohms, 113dB)
- Nuforce Primo 8 (38 ohms, 118dB)
- Sony MDR-7550 (16 ohms, 108dB)
- Sony XBA-C10 (24 ohms, 100dB)
- VSonic VSD3S (40 ohms, 108dB)
Note that not all of these earphones are balanced armatures. It seems like if an earphone is low impedance and quite sensitive, it might pick up the buzzing noise. But there's no consistency. For instance, I can't pick up the buzzing on the Sennheiser Amperior (18ohms, 120dB).

Sound quality is typically an assessment of the accuracy, enjoyability, or intelligibility of audio output from an electronic device. Quality can be measured objectively, such as when tools are used to gauge the accuracy with which the device reproduces an original sound; or it can be measured subjectively, such as when human listeners respond to the sound or gauge its perceived similarity to another sound.

MP3 is the most commonly used lossy audio data compression algorithm for digital music players and internet audio streaming. The main intention of using such algorithm is to reduce the data size while maintain the perceived audio quality.
The principle of MP3 coding scheme is based on psychoacoustic models. MP3 coding defines the amount of compression by using bit rate in term of kbps (kilo bits per seconds). The higher the bit rate would give less compression which in turn provides closer to original signal quality. On other hand, the higher bit rate would require storage space and longer time to transfer.
This video uses only portion of available bit rates defined by MP3 standard to demonstrate the differences in audio quality and file sizes.

Just bought an iPhone 6S and noticed electrical buzzing noise from the headphone output on highly sensitive, low impedance earphones.
Since uploading this video, I've done some more testing. Here are the earphones I own which pick up the buzzing on the iPhone 6S distinctly. They're listed with impedance and sensitivity figures as a guide.)
- Audio Technica ATH-IM02 (36 ohms, 113dB)
- Nuforce Primo 8 (38 ohms, 118dB)
- Sony MDR-7550 (16 ohms, 108dB)
- Sony XBA-C10 (24 ohms, 100dB)
- VSonic VSD3S (40 ohms, 108dB)
Note that not all of these earphones are balanced armatures. It seems like if an earphone is low impedance and quite sensitive, it might pick up the buzzing noise. But there's no consistency. For instance, I can't pick up the buzzing on the Sennheiser Amperior (18ohms, 120dB).
If you have one of the new iPhones, please let us know if you can hear anything on your earphones.
