Der Yukon ist noch heute ein großes Abenteuer. Und ein Paradies für alle Freiheitssucher und "Naturfreaks". ARD-Korrespondent Thomas Roth und sein Team haben ihn wochenlang bereist. Herausgekommen ist ein klassischer Roadmovie mit interessanten Menschen und Bildern von einer faszinierenden Natur.
Eigentlich kommt er aus Wuppertal, aber das ist lange her. Sebastian Schnuelle ist einer der weltbesten Hundeschlittenführer. Er lebt in der kanadischen Wildnis der Provinz Yukon und trainiert mit seinen Hunden im Sommer schon für die härtesten Hundeschlittenrennen der Welt 10 Tage durch Schnee und Eis bei minus 40 Grad und kälter. Marcel ist Buschpilot. Er fliegt über Gletscher und dichte Wälder, um Ersatzteile in abgelegene Goldminen zu bringen - kein ganz ungefährlicher Job so eine Landung mitten in der Wildnis.
Der Yukon ist nicht nur eine Provinz im Westen Kanadas, sondern zugleich auch einer der wildesten Flüsse. Dort bauen Dorian, Bridget und ihre beiden Kinder ein Blockhaus mitten in der Wildnis, weil sie der Zivilisation entfliehen wollen. Gelegentlich schauen da auch gerne Bären vorbei.
Und schließlich Dave, der Vorarbeiter einer Goldmine tief in den Wäldern: Vor rund 120 Jahren gab es dort den bis heute legendären Goldrausch aber auch heute wird in den Wäldern noch nach Gold geschürft. "Der Yukon", wie man in Kanada sagt, ist noch heute ein großes Abenteuer. Und ein Paradies für alle Freiheitssucher und "Naturfreaks".

A had the rare opportunity to drive and review both the standard Yukon as well as the Yukon XL for several days. Long overdue for a refresh, the new Yukons mark another step forward for GM in their quest for large SUV dominance. The Yukon XL in particular is virtually unmatched by any other automaker when it comes to downright size and capability. The question is, just how good are these twins?
As always, this is an unscripted, amateur test drive and review from the point of view of a consumer. I'll cover everything from style to ride to space, with a strong emphasis on practicality and everyday use.

Yukon
Yukon (/ˈjuːkɒn/; also commonly called the Yukon) is the westernmost and smallest of Canada's three federal territories. Whitehorse is the territorial capital and Yukon's only city.
The territory was split from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and was named the "Yukon Territory". The federal government's Yukon Act, which received royal assent on March 27, 2002, established "Yukon" as the territory's official name, though "Yukon Territory" is also still popular in usage and Canada Post continues to use the territory's internationally approved postal abbreviation of YT. Though officially bilingual (English and French), the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages.
At 5,959 m (19,551 ft), Yukon's Mount Logan, in Kluane National Park and Reserve, is the highest mountain in Canada and the second-highest on the North American continent (after Denali in the U.S. state of Alaska). Most of Yukon has a Subarctic climate, characterized by long cold winters and brief warm summers. The Arctic Ocean coast has a tundra climate.

Darwin: [voiceover] In the year 2012, the gasoline ran out. You could almost hear the giant sucking sound as the last drop of crude was pumped from the Earth. Within a year the reserves were gone too. We were supposed to have 20 years of gas left. That's what the experts said and... they were wrong. Detroit was still churning out gas guzzlers even as the wells went dry. You'd have thought we could survive without gas. But the end of gasoline meant the end of electricity, nuclear power. There's coal, but you still need trucks to deliver the fuel. No electricity means no refrigerators, and that means spoiled food. In days the grocery stores were picked clean, within weeks there was looting, rioting, and chaos. The government had a plan, but it was too busy trying to stop the violence. When they finally declared martial law, it was already too late. Civilization collapsed into anarchy. The smart ones moved south, until they realized that millions of other smart people had the same smart idea. All those people in one place fighting for the same shelter and food, it was a bloodbath. Within three years more than two-thirds of the world's population had starved to death, frozen to death, or slaughtered each other. The American dream became the American nightmare.

Der Yukon ist noch heute ein großes Abenteuer. Und ein Paradies für alle Freiheitssucher und "Naturfreaks". ARD-Korrespondent Thomas Roth und sein Team haben ihn wochenlang bereist. Herausgekommen ist ein klassischer Roadmovie mit interessanten Menschen und Bildern von einer faszinierenden Natur.
Eigentlich kommt er aus Wuppertal, aber das ist lange her. Sebastian Schnuelle ist einer der weltbesten Hundeschlittenführer. Er lebt in der kanadischen Wildnis der Provinz Yukon und trainiert mit seinen Hunden im Sommer schon für die härtesten Hundeschlittenrennen der Welt 10 Tage durch Schnee und Eis bei minus 40 Grad und kälter. Marcel ist Buschpilot. Er fliegt über Gletscher und dichte Wälder, um Ersatzteile in abgelegene Goldminen zu bringen - kein ganz ungefährlicher Job so eine Landung mitten in der Wildnis.
Der Yukon ist nicht nur eine Provinz im Westen Kanadas, sondern zugleich auch einer der wildesten Flüsse. Dort bauen Dorian, Bridget und ihre beiden Kinder ein Blockhaus mitten in der Wildnis, weil sie der Zivilisation entfliehen wollen. Gelegentlich schauen da auch gerne Bären vorbei.
Und schließlich Dave, der Vorarbeiter einer Goldmine tief in den Wäldern: Vor rund 120 Jahren gab es dort den bis heute legendären Goldrausch aber auch heute wird in den Wäldern noch nach Gold geschürft. Long overdue for a refresh, the new Yukons mark another step forward for GM in their quest for large SUV dominance. The Yukon XL in particular is virtually unmatched by any other automaker when it comes to downright size and capability. The question is, just how good are these twins?
