The Holiday

The Holiday is a 2006 American romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Nancy Meyers, distributed by Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures, filmed in both California and England, and starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who temporarily exchange homes to escape heartbreak during the holiday season. Jude Law and Jack Black are the movie's leading men, with Eli Wallach, Shannyn Sossamon, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell playing key supporting roles.

The Holiday was first released on December 6, 2006, in Spain and on December 8, 2006, in North America and the United Kingdom. It grossed over $205 million worldwide. Reviews were positive towards the film's visual aesthetic design and the acting, most notably Winslet's performance as society column editor Iris. However, the plot drew a mixed response from critics, who criticized plot elements that lacked any surprises or were predictable. Diaz garnered an ALMA Award nomination for her performance, while Winslet was nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award the following year. The film itself won the 2007 Teen Choice Award in the Chick Flick category.

The Holiday (album)

The Holiday is the debut album from Buckinghamshire-based Alternative band Futures, given away free with issue 133 (March 2010) of Rock Sound magazine.

This was the first time Rock Sound had given away a full album for free and led to this issue of the magazine becoming the highest selling in two years.

The album was re-released through the band's website on 19 April 2010, with bonus acoustic tracks.

Reception

The Holiday has been very well received, with the majority of reviews being positive. Kerrang! gave a positive review stating that it was "an album of gloriously uplifting tunes" and giving the album a KKKK rating.

Rock Sound's review was also very positive saying about the album, "it's gorgeous, it's rocking and it paints Futures as a very exciting prospect indeed". The album also gained a 9/10 rating.

The Holiday EP

The Holiday EP is an EP by the band Brand New. This free limited edition album was released on December 15, 2003, and made exclusively available to members of the Brand New Street Team. Only 1000 copies were pressed.

The first song, "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot (acoustic)", was recorded live on radio station KNRK in Portland, Oregon on July 10, 2003. "Logan to Government Center (demo)" first surfaced on a leaked demo tape and later re-recorded for release on their debut album Your Favorite Weapon (2001). "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows (acoustic)" was also recorded live at a radio station, K-Rock Station WXRK in New York City. Record producer Mike Sapone, who produced Your Favorite Weapon, recorded and mixed the demo version of "Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do Is Die (demo)". The final song on the EP is the Christmas carol "O Holy Night", written by Adolphe Adam in 1847 and recorded by Brand New and Luke Wood in 2003.
