After
Rohtak,
Jhajjar,
Sonipat and
Jind,
Jats of Hisar district on Wednesday (
17 February 2016) blocked the Sirsa-Delhi national highway-10 near the under-construction toll plaza in
Ramayan village which is about 2km from Mayyar. Jats also blocked the railway track after holding meetings with other village youths.
As Jat protesters started blocking the railway and national highway, the
Hisar police was seen managing distance about 5kms from the dharna spot.
Army has taken charge of the situation in two villages and shoot-at-sight orders have been issued to the troops.
Villagers have been directed to stay indoors till the next orders.
Jats agitating for quotas in government jobs and colleges halted water supply to the nation’s capital (
Delhi) through the 102km-long
Munak canal, even as the army conducted flag marches in Rohtak, one of the three districts under curfew.
The Munak canal supplies 80 million gallons of water a day Delhi via water treatment plants in the capital.
The army, called out in nine districts, had to use helicopters to reach some areas of Rohtak where agitators had cut off road links.
The army carried out a flag march in Hisar and cleared rail and road blockades, but the agitators continued to treat in arson and violence.
Protesters had targeted private vehicles, buildings housing offices, including two toll plazas at
Hansi in
Hissar district and near Rohtak, both located on the Delhi-Hisar-Fazilka
National Highway.
As the situation turned volatile,
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh appealed for calm and said “I appeal to all to maintain
peace and ensure that there are no untoward incidents.”
Haryana government declared that it has been decided that in coming
Assembly session,
OBC status will be granted to Jats.
The blockade on NH-10 in
Sampla was still on.
Haryana Government said curfew will continue to be imposed in the Jat dominated district till there is complete normalcy.
There is relief in curfew for like one hour depending upon the situation to allow people to buy essential items.
Government said that they are observing the situation and trying to convince Jat protestors to end their agitation.
Police have made sufficient security arrangements and we will not allow anyone to take law into hands.
Curfew from 8pm to 6am in
Hisar District
The curfew has been imposed in Hisar from 8pm to 6am on Sunday (
20 February 2016) to control the situation.
Everyone was requested not to come out of their homes during these hours on roads in Hisar.
Finally, Haryana government said that it would fully compensate people whose private property was damaged during the Jat agitation.

Mohan Bhagwat suggested that a non-political committee should be formed to decide on eligibility for reservation.
Person not getting opportunity only because of his birth in a particular caste should not happen.
Many leaders in
Haryana appealed for end to agitation in Haryana and said that their demands have been met.
Efforts have being made to restore peace and harmony by different social organisations and groups of people in Haryana.
