The Raspberries were an American power pop/pop rock band formed in 1970 from Cleveland, Ohio. They had a run of success in the early 1970s music scene with their pop sound, which Allmusic later described as featuring "exquisitely crafted melodies and achingly gorgeous harmonies." The members were known for their clean-cut public image, with short-hair and matching suits, which brought them teenybopper attention as well as scorn from some mainstream media outlets as "uncool". The group drew influence from the British Invasion era—especially The Beatles, The Who, The Hollies, and Small Faces—and its mod sensibility. In both the U.S. and the UK, the Raspberries helped pioneer the power pop music style that took off after the group disbanded. They also have a following among professional musicians such as Jack Bruce, Ringo Starr, and Courtney Love.
The group's "classic" lineup consisted of Eric Carmen (vocalist/guitarist/bassist), Wally Bryson (guitarist), Jim Bonfanti (drummer), and Dave Smalley (guitarist/bassist). Their best known songs include "Go All the Way", "Let's Pretend", "I Wanna Be with You", "Tonight", and "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)". Producer Jimmy Ienner was responsible for all four of the Raspberries' albums in the 1970s. The group broke up in 1975 after a five-year run, and Eric Carmen proceeded to a successful career as a solo artist. Bryson and Smalley resurrected the group's name in 1999 for an album, which included singer/songwriter Scott McCarl working as the vocalist. In 2004 the original four-man lineup reunited and undertook a well-received reunion tour in 2005.
Eric Howard Carmen (born August 11, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist. He scored numerous hit songs across the 1970s and 1980s, first as a member of the Raspberries (who had a million-selling single with "Go All The Way"), and then with his solo career, including hits such as "All By Myself," "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," "She Did It," "Hungry Eyes," and "Make Me Lose Control."
From a family of Russian Jewish immigrants, Carmen was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Lyndhurst, Ohio. He has been involved with music since early childhood. By the age of two, he was entertaining his parents with impressions of Tony Bennett and Johnnie Ray. By age three, he was in the Dalcroze Eurhythmics program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. At six years old, he took violin lessons from Muriel Carmen (his aunt), a violinist of the Cleveland Orchestra. By age 11, he was playing piano and dreaming about writing his own songs. The arrival of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones altered his dream slightly. By the time he was a sophomore at Charles F. Brush High School, Eric Carmen was playing piano and singing in rock 'n' roll bands including the Fugitives, the Harlequins, the Sounds of Silence and the Cyrus Erie.
The raspberry (/ˈræzˌbɛri/) is the edible fruit of a multitude of plant species in the genus Rubus of the rose family, most of which are in the subgenus Idaeobatus; the name also applies to these plants themselves.
Raspberries are perennial with woody stems.
Raspberries are an important commercial fruit crop, widely grown in all temperate regions of the world.
Many of the most important modern commercial red raspberry cultivars derive from hybrids between R. idaeus and R. strigosus. Some botanists consider the Eurasian and American red raspberries to belong to a single, circumboreal species, Rubus idaeus, with the European plants then classified as either R. idaeus subsp. idaeus or R. idaeus var. idaeus, and the native North American red raspberries classified as either R. idaeus subsp. strigosus, or R. idaeus var. strigosus. Recent breeding has resulted in cultivars that are thornless and more strongly upright, not needing staking.
The black raspberry, Rubus occidentalis, is also cultivated, providing both fresh and frozen fruit, as well as jams, preserves, and other products, all with that species' distinctive flavor.

A promotional film for The Raspberries "Fresh" album in 1972, and that's pretty much all I know about it! Songs: Drivin' Around I Reach For The Light Let's Pretend I Wanna Be With You https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresh_(Raspberries_album)
From the album Fresh Raspberries, the guys play tribute to the Beatles in this song about lost love. Not a hit and I do not believe it was ever released as a single but I for one would love to go back in a time machine and cut it say about 1965! Enjoy!
Track 6 from their album "Fresh" (1972). Composed by Eric Carmen and Dave Smalley
off the album FRESH RASPBERRIES. Dave Smalley: It was summertime and I had a Corvette. Eric and I would go out to Headlands Beach Park in Mentor, Ohio in my Corvette and we would cruise around looking for women and hang around the beach. Being summertime, digging the Beach Boys, girls, the beach and loving the radio is where that song came from. Driving Around (Eric Carmen, Dave Smalley) Long hot days We'll be catchin' the rays (Oh baby) Long hot days We'll be catchin' the rays You know my tape deck is blastin' My car's fast When school lets out And the summer's here We'll have some time for the sun Throw my notebooks out And put my car in gear 'Cause we'll be havin' some fun Drivin' around (Long hot days we'll be catchin' the rays) Drivin' around (Long hot days ...

Live 1973 television performance. Let's start with the video's faults first... (1) camera features way too many closeups and dominance of Eric Carmen (not his fault of course), (2) band mates are grossly underplayed, (3) orchestra seems to be generated by keyboards, and (4) not enough variety of audience, band and other visuals. Now, let's get to the positive. 'I Can Remember' was a masterpiece off the Raspberries debute LP (you know, the one with the pleasant raspberry smell), which was one of those rare albums where every track was simply superb... no filler at all. Though the Raspberries crafted perfect 3 minute pop ballads, ICR was the exception... over 7 minutes of goosebump-inducing classical angst drama at it's finest! Because of it's length, it never made it to radio play and is se...

Like Badfinger, the American rock band, The Raspberries, received much of their influence from The Beatles. With one big smash hit already under their belt from late August/early September 1972 ("Go All The Way"), the sensational rock band from Cleveland, Ohio formed by lead singer Eric Carmen scored an excitement-charged Top Ten hit single with "I Wanna Be With You" in mid-January 1973. The song was an excitement-charged number #12 on New Year's Eve and fans couldn't get enough air play. Here then is my video tribute to a group that, for a short time at least, in the period 1972-73, was truly the American version of The Beatles. Happy New Year.
This video is really The Holy Grail for me. I've been looking for this recording for many years. This is the very first rock show I ever worked. I was a huge fan of Raspberries and had seen them live a couple of times at Disneyland in 1972. I was in the Army and was assigned to Frankfurt, Germany on January 1, 1973. A couple of weeks after my arrival, I read on the bulletin board that Raspberries were playing a live show in Frankfurt that evening for the Armed Forces Radio Network. Well, I had to be at that show but I was working that night. I asked my boss for the night off and told him I needed to be there, didn't know why but needed to be there. He laughed and made a phone call. He then told me to get my butt over to AFN as I was gonna be stage security for the show. Yeah, nic...

The idea is to combine the G3 "the three greatest guitarists in the world" to create a series of concert-event. G3 Satriani organized as a series of tours, accompanied from time to time with a different pair of virtuoso guitar (or guitar hero). In a sense, the G3 could be called a supergroup. However, the formation of various tour on tour, in addition, the three artists selected by Satriani as "big three" play a large part of the concert independently (each with his own band). Only at the final concert of the big three pla...

The Hopkins Westwind Concert Band has hosted the "Raspberry Festival of Bands" for 27 years. This event showcases five community bands in the metro area. For the first few years, the event was held at Maetzold Field after the Parade on the last Sunday of the Festival. For the next 15 years, it was moved to a Showmobile at the corner of Twelfth Ave. and Mainstreet and was included as part of Saturday's "Family Day." Following the construction of the band shell in Downtown Park, the Raspberry Festival of Bands has been presented at that location. It historically has drawn crowds to the park and has become a destination for many folks. The Hopkins Westwind Concert Band (HWCB) was organized in 1983 by Minnetonka resident R. G. Wolf to provide a place in the western suburbs for adult musicians...

This interview with Gary (Last Name Unknown) happened completely by accident, when I was leaving the Hometown Buffet in Mentor Ohio. I had just purchased a video camera at Circuit City and got it out of the back of my vehicle. Gary started talking to me and claimed that he had played for the Famous Raspberries and was kicked out before they made it big (Another Peat Best?) Is the claim true? I don't know, but you can judge for yourself.
